I have had this headset for so long, I can’t believe it’s still for sale. Bring with me everywhere so small and lightweight never leaves my pack unless it’s going in my pocket. Avid birder and somehow can see pretty well through binoculars when wearing this. Has kept me out for adventures quite a few times when I otherwise would have had to turn back. BF has one now too. Not sure I’ve had a trial with black flies but keeps mosquitos humming hungrily at bay.

At first, it seemed silly to wear this over your head while sitting around a campfire, but it didn’t amtake long to realize that as the mozzie’s were buzzing around, they couldn’t get you. Getting bit on the arm or leg is one thing, but on your face? No thank you!Small enough to toss it in any backpack. I recommend!

One may ask how much can one really say about a head net. The answer is, not a whole lot. After a Southern California summer morning where I spent 15 minutes packing my backpack while being relentlessly swarmed by bugs and hitting myself every 2 seconds, I realized this was a product that I needed. It's absolutely tiny, weighs basically nothing, will result in everyone in your group making fun of you, and does not (in my experience) let anything through. In my opinion this is a must have item for anyone camping in places with bugs. It makes those 30 minutes around sunset and sunrise so much better. Note, you do need to wear a hat or bike helmet with this in order for it to work correctly.

Simply put, this is the design that makes most sense. You want a net that leaves some space around your face, and you probably also want to minimize weight. If you're camping in mosquito season you likely also have a wide brimmed hat with you... in this case, this is the type of mosquito net you need and this is the best option I have found. This mosquito head net fits over my hat and has smaller perforations than other similar ones I've seen. It's also lighter than some of the other designs that use a frame to create space around your head.So long as you have a brimmed hat, this is the one for you.
When swarmed with mosquitoes, this head net gave me some respite for my sanity. Provided it is cinched around clothing with a collar, it keeps bugs out, which is exactly what it is intended to do. If used with a hat with a small brim, it hangs clear of the face and ears, preventing biting through it. As with any head net, it reduces air circulation, so can feel a little warm, but its effect on visibility is small.
I've had this head net for about 6 years, and it's gotten a fair bit of use--especially on the Apostle Islands over the summer. The material has held up perfectly, and it does a great job keeping my face and neck from looking like I have the pox.Make sure you pair this with a hat that has a moderate brim all the way around, otherwise it will just drape on the back of your neck and you'll get bit.I also use paintball gloves on those trips, because they have rubber backing on the hand and fingers that mosquitoes can't bite through like they do most other fabric gloves. My favorite use of the head net: using the drawstring to tighten it enough to stay in place just below my nose while I eat. Being able to eat your dinner instead of pouring your food all over yourself ... MoreI've had this head net for about 6 years, and it's gotten a fair bit of use--especially on the Apostle Islands over the summer. Been there, done that, just get the head net.
This 'mosquito' netting will be used as protection against aggressive bees during day hiking. The aggressive bee issue is increasing in theTuscson area and I want to be prepared just in case. I have practiced donning the netting over my hat multiple times so I can do it fast. It has slide and lock mechanism that can be used rapidly to secure the netting tightly around my neck. The brim of my hat holds the netting away from me making it more difficult for bees to attack my head region. I have taken it out of the nice storage pouch provided and zipped it into the waist belt of my backpack so I can rapidly access if needed. Thankfully, I have not had to use it yet, but wanted to be ready just in case. I knew we needed bug nets to thwart the black flies in the BWAC, so I grabbed 5 of these for my family’s Memorial Day trip. I sprayed them with Permethrin (to save $2/net for the “presprayed” nets) and packed them with our supplies. I thought having them in their own little pouch would prevent us from losing them, but it did not. They fold up so tiny and the pouch easily fits in a pocket or front pack, felt like an advantage — but it also easily falls out… So, while it does work well at keeping the bugs off your face, we found similar ones for $4 without the little storage bag (which we managed to lose one of, anyway). Based solely on price, I cannot recommend.
Used this a few times during the evening while camping, it's very effective even with thick bug activity. Can still read through the mesh. Comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I haven't yet worn it hiking so I'm not sure about breathability while being super active.
These head nets are an incredible blessing!I've used this head net at camp over the years and they give me incredible relief from all manner of biting insects. It's best to have a broad brimmed hat on so that the netting doesn't get near your skin though.I don't mind wearing mosquito repellent on the trail but I also don't like to have it smeared on my face at camp. Even though the biting insects may be buzzing around your head, the fact that you have the net covering allows you to ignore them, as far as your head is concerned.I must admit that I felt a little self-conscious wearing these nets at first but it quickly disappears as the sun goes down. One does need to make sure that the net covers the back of the neck -- as I found out too late on one trip. They also can feel a little claustrophobic when temperatures and humidity go up but I prefer that over the alternatives.
