This is my third pad in my quest for a comfortable pad as a man who side sleeps, and I've finally found a keeper. I've never been able to sleep on my side on a pad without waking up at night and/or in the morning with painful hips- the bony part of my hips sinks onto the hard ground. In a bid to avoid hips hitting the ground, I'd overinflate other pads and wake up from side-sleeping with a numb arm due to the harder pad.I'm 6'2" and went for the regular size to save slightly on weight and space. I fit comfortably on the pad. I have to use a 2.5 pad for that with a closed-cell foam pad under that- quite heavy and less comfortable.The Sea to Summit pump sack is the fastest at inflating pads, and I've had pads from all the major players.This pad is also pretty quiet. Moving around at night still sounds like a balloon a bit, but it's more low-frequency balloon- no so much with the high-pitched squeaks and crinkling sounds of other pads.It took me about one night to get the hang of the double valve and to learn to make adjustments inflating or deflating while sleeping on the thing. It's very easy!I love this pad. I wish they had an 7+ R-value version for winter camping! Alas, it's hard to imagine anybody in Perth Australia thinks about winter camping much.I've put about 200 miles of hiking on this pad with 0 holes or issues. I have no complaints about this and struggle to even imagine potential improvements.I have a 2 inch pad from Sea to Summit that I bought before the Ether was released. That was similar but so much less comfortable due to being half the thickness. That pad did get 2 pin holes on the trail. I could fix one hole with the included patch kit and needed to submerge in a bath tub with water to find the second tiny hole. Since patching I've had zero issues with that- now my loaner pad for friends.

The Exped is slightly lighter, cheaper, has a more textile surface, - and still: Beside the stronger cushening I also liked the fact that the pump sack is also the perfect bag to put it in. So bottom line: Both are excellent but if you compare them thorougly in all aspects for me the Ether Light is still the winner and the Exped ... A little odd considering its the thinnest of the 3 but makes sense from a design standpoint since Thermarest is made up of many more small baffle chambers within the pad so it should resist air migration the best while the Ether XT is practically a 4" thick void which is why my hip went right to the ground.Everything else about the pad is good. The combination pump sack/stuff sack is a really good idea and inflates the pad very fast. The valve is one of the best designs you can find. The pad itself seemed of good quality. It felt warm, but not uncomfortably so. It didnt seem any more noisy than the Nemo either which is touted as a quiet pad. Really bummed about it not being better in the comfort department.

I have used this pad for probably over 100 nights at this point. I'm a Trail Worker, long distance hiker, and former Wilderness Ranger, and this pad has kept me extremely comfortable almost every night. It's thick, quiet, and plenty warm for most trips.After 40-50 nights or so, I was having to wake up every 2 hours to re-inflate because I was hitting the ground with my hips/shoulders while side sleeping. I had gotten used to it, but finally decided to throw some patches on one day. I found SEVEN holes on the pad, all on the top of the pad, which was very surprising to me. No holes on the bottom (great!), which has definitely seen pokey conditions; one hole in a crease near the seam, which makes sense with repeated use; SIX holes on the edges of the air cell ... I didn't love this sleeping pad (regular size), but I think that's just bc it wasn't right for me. It was very narrow feeling and maybe that's just something I'd have to get used to but it felt like I was just trying to stay super still so I wouldn't roll off the side. Comfort wise, it's definitely plush feeling and if you sleep still or are just better at backpacking than me the width is probably fine for you. The pump sack/stuff sack combo was a nice feature and easy to use. It is noisy when you move around, but not in a way that was a big deal or would make me not buy it if I were fine with it otherwise. I made the mistake of not having long pants for sleeping and I get sweaty when I sleep and I found that my bare sticky legs on it were super uncomfortable when I ... This pad will not only keep you warm with a great Rating, but the level of comfort will definitely get you a great night sleep after a long day on the trail. Easily the most comfortable mat I've owned. It's easy to inflate, and the integrated pump is a genius piece of design. Packing away is very easy and takes a couple of minutes on a bad day. There's enough room in the bag for my Aeros pillow as well.I'm a side sleeper, and was able to sleep very comfortably without waking up with a sore shoulder. The air adjustment feature makes it simple to find the perfect level without needing to get out of your sleeping bag - just be careful to pull the correct tab or you'll find yourself on the ground on a deflated mat.It is quite narrow, so if you're a back sleeper you might find your arms fall off the sides of the mat - if that's a concern, consider sizing up.My partner found it to be quite crinkly when moving around, but ... I have just tested this mat on a bike packing trip and I am very pleased! I had the most comfortable sleep I have ever had in a lightweight tent. I used it with the Aeros pillow (which I bought ages ago and had never used) which it is designed to integrate with. The pillow attaches to the mat with self adhesive Velcro patches that are supplied with the mat. Although I was skeptical, the pillow stayed in place. The temperature was quite mild so I can’t comment on the the insulation qualities yet. It is nice and compact when storing and rolling in it up was very easy.Thanks Tom’s Outdoors for great service and competitive pricing as well as having the live stock availability!

The first is the noise when moving around. This is by far the noisiest sleeping pad I've ever had or been around. If you have any knowledge of the SpongeBob squeaky boots episode, you will have a great reference point for what I am talking about. It was loud and distracting enough to wake up fellow tent campers whenever I moved. The second issue is the width of the pad. I am 5'7" but relatively broad-shouldered, and while laying on my back my arms would fall off the edge of the pad. I wish the 25" ... I have a couple of Klymit inflatables that have given me zero issue, and I was thru hiking the SHT, so why not maximize my sleep by getting the most comfortable ultralight pad on the market? well it sprung many leaks (by day 3) that were never fully patched because I couldn't find them. the two I did patch after only a week were on the top, in the "button" area (which leads me to believe manufacturing defect). it gradually got worse until I was waking up on the ground 3 plus times a night after a week and a half. luckily I ended up with a replacement pad at around mile 160 (due to the kindness of a stranger and a husky that didn't want his torso length foam pad). I'm sure this was a factory defect, but that's not allowed when you're dealing ... MoreI usually use a foam pad.
