Sea to Summit Ether Light XT Insulated Mat Womens - Regular
The Ether Light Insulated is a women's insulated mattress from Sea To Summit. It features the Air Sprung Cell technology which offers higher capacity air cells thanks to TPU baffles which connect the top to the bottom layers fabric. This design allows the two sides of the mattress to be spread further apart creating larger air pockets when inflated while using less fabric. This is a 4-season mattress, featuring a R-Value of 3.5, that will provide you with a sufficient level of insulation to accompany you throughout the year. This is achieved by using Thermolite insulation in combination with Exkin Platinum. Thermolite is present in the cells and will help limit heat loss while Exkin Platinum will reflect your body heat for optimal insulation. All Sea To Summit mattresses come with a storage bag that has an integrated Air stream pump. There is also a repair kit containing six self-adhesive puncture repair patches and a replacement check valve to ensure long-lasting use of the product.

This an excellent compromise between weight and comfort. I originally considered getting this for my wife, but her primary (perhaps only) use is car camping so I got her a bulky fold-up memory foam mattress instead. As I looked more closely at the stats, it seemed like it might be ideal for me for camping/backpacking and got it. It’s very close to what I wanted: the thickness, width, length, weight, and overall comfort are just what I wanted/needed. The only drawback is the noise. It’s not the noisiest air mattress out there, but it’s not quiet either. It’s not Lays Potato Chip bag crinkly; it’s more of a Veggie Straw bag crinkle—deeper, less irritating, but still fairly crinkly.

I am an active sleeper flipping from back to side. I carry my weight in my hips and my hips siding bottom out on this pad. I am a very light sleeper and noticed NO noise with this pad except if I was trying to scoot my whole pad and sleeping bag and body to center of tent - not a movement you’d do often. Much quieter than the potato chip bag pads. I was impressed by a YouTuber that rigged up a thermal camera and controlled heating environment. This pad outperformed it’s r-value. I think I can add a thin foam pad to get me a little deeper into the shoulder seasons. I slept in 40 degree weather with it and was toasty warm.I got the women’s large bc I really wanted 25” width. Very happy with this pad!!!If I had to say a negative about it - it is bigger when rolled than I imagined. So it takes up some volume. I was coming from a cheap non-insulated pad which was small when rolled so I may have had unrealistic expectations. The pump sack is a dream. Literally took 3 breaths to inflate mattress. Heck my pillow takes more than that!!!Lots of good YouTube videos for this pad.

I'm mostly a side sleeper but spend a lot of time moving around in different sleeping positions during the night. This pad was so ridiculously comfortable that it felt like my bed mattress at home - I've never been this comfy backpacking before! I also didn't realise how much of a difference a pad with an R-rating of 3.5 makes (my last pad was only 1.5): for once, I did not get cold during the night (on one particularly chilly Fall Sierra weekend, we woke with ice on our tent). I'm only 5'4 so the women's regular pad was plenty long enough for me and, being 6" shorter than my last pad, afforded me a little extra room for gear at my feet. Not too heavy, either, especially considering the pros of a good night's sleep compared to the lighter and thinner/lower R-value ... Inflating was easy; packing back into the stuff sack with the inflation bag stumped me on my first trip, but I had it down pat by my 2nd trip (fold the inflation bag first into 3rds lengthwise, then fold until it's small enough to fit into the end of the stuff sack, THEN fold and roll the pad and pack it in the other end of the stuff sack). Summary: brilliant pad and worth every cent! Hope it holds up.

Unfortunately this mattress did not provide enough insulation for 15 degree Celsius nights on the West Coast Trail. It claims to be 3 season but in the damp air along the coast I lost all my heat to the airspace. It felt cold and clammy to sleep on in, even with a 0 degree down bag, silk long underwear and merino wool layers. I eventually tried putting my thin foamie that I brought for cooking and sitting between me and the sleeping mat and that made all the difference. The mat itself is certainly comfortable but if you are a cold sleeper and want to use this for anything other than warm summer camping, I would say you need a higher R value option. Unfortunately, I had to use it to find that out.
The gold standard in backpacking sleeping pads is the NeoAir XLite, however it is criticized for being "loud". I own a NeoAir XLite. My wife bought this pad. We had to return this pad because it was terribly noisy. My wife then tried my NeoAir...much quieter for how she used the sleeping pad.I think the problem is the covering. Yes the NeoAir sounds like a bag of potato chips when moving around (particularly if it is underinflated). But this Sea-to-Summit sounds like rubbing a balloon with any skin-on-pad contact. It was way more distracting.Yet Sea-to-Summit advertises this as "quiet".
I am side sleeper & a "curvy" person. While this pad was only 1/2 thicker than the pad I previously used, the way it is made makes it feel much thicker. I no longer toss & turn b/c of my hips at night. While this pad is a little on the pricier side, it's well worth the money for the comfort it gives. It's also lightweight! The only negative I see is that the way the air chambers are made, makes it a little harder to deflate the mattress. Other's say it's noisy, but honestly, I found it no more noisy than any of the other 2 pads I have previously tried out.
I’ve used this sleeping mat now for 4 camping trips and I’ve been very impressed. I have slept on 2 other types and it either popped one of the first times I used it, took too long to inflate, was annoying to inflate, or deflated in the middle of the night. This is not only comfortable, but it has worked on uneven ground, rocks, roots, and it weather as low as 40 degrees so far. My husband tried mine out and he liked it so much I got a men’s ether for him as well! I also loved the integrated air pump system that comes from using the bag. It takes about 3 times to get it inflated. I also have a pillow as well from them and it fits perfectly in the bag when everything is put away. When I got back into backpacking after a long hiatus, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on gear, so I used my old, cheap, closed-cell foam pad. After several trips where I slept terribly, I finally decided to buy a better pad. I chose this one because I sleep on my side, and multiple reviews mentioned that this was a good pad for side-sleepers and very comfortable.HOLY COW THIS PAD WAS A GAME-CHANGER! It is MUCH more comfortable than my old pad. Also, I really love that you can blow it up using the storage sack as a "pump." I've found it very easy to use-- the key is to follow the directions and blow into it from about a foot away, not with your mouth right at the level of the bag opening. Some of the other reviews mention noise, but I've never had that ... Some of the other reviews mention noise, but I've never had that problem. It's also easy to pack in my backpack, and even if it's not an ultralight piece of equipment, I still think it's pretty light. The only minor downside is that it's somewhat narrow (I bought the "Regular" size). Overall, though, I love this sleeping pad and would highly recommend it.
I am a wilderness ranger and spend most nights of the week in the backcountry. I was looking to upgrade my sleeping setup for something that was still light and packable but would provide me with higher quality sleep. I was a bit skeptical about the women's specific design (normally that stuff is rather gimmicky) but I figured I'd take a shot because they at least had a long size that would fit me and I'm so glad I did! While this pad is slightly heavier than what I used to use, it's worth every ounce because of how comfortable it is. I paired this with the Women's Flame 15 and there's actually a difference in the women specific gear versus men's, which is what I'd been using for the last 10 years. It seems like it would be pretty loud with tossing and turning but I found it to be quieter than most pads I've used. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the bag, I don't really use the pump because it's too much fiddling for my taste, so I kind of wish it came with just a normal bag to save some space. Either way, so happy with this pad and highly recommend it!
I’ve been using this pad daily on the pct for the last 2 months. I LOVE this pad. The good…I’m a side sleeper and a little on the larger size and it is incredibly comfortable. It’s really lofty and warm. I know for some ultra-lighters they may find it to be a bit heavy and bulky compared to others, but seriously it has been my favorite pad compared to several others. The bad…At week six it started developing leaks in the circle parts of the quilted pattern near my hip area. I think this is happening because that’s where a lot of sand and debris settle (in the desert this is impossible to avoid) and it’s just developing small holes because of repeat use. I have been able to find the leaks and patch them easily with what was provided at purchase. I’m hoping to make it ... MoreI’ve been using this pad daily on the pct for the last 2 months. I would definitely recommend this pad for most backpackers, and consider it for thru-hikers who value a good night’s sleep over base weight goals and don’t mind some quick maintenance.
