Been using this product for a long time. I usually buy from physical reputable stores like malls. For some reason the cap is not as “solid” like this one is made in China even if it says made in USA. The smell is also not as strong as the ones I’m used to. It also doesn’t have that QR code which it normally has. I’m not saying it’s a fake but you be the judge.

Seachem Excel is a highly effective liquid carbon supplement for planted aquariums. It offers an easy alternative to CO2 injection, promoting healthy plant growth by providing a readily available source of carbon. It's especially useful for low-tech setups and helps control algae by boosting plant vitality. The product is simple to dose, and many aquarists notice healthier, more vibrant plants with regular use. However, caution is needed as overdosing can harm certain plants and fish.

About 3 weeks ago I started to use this Seachem Flourish Excel and so far I like it. I feed my water plants according to the directions on the label. My plants are more greener and look much more healthier than before. This is a liquid plant food and it has a sweet smell to it. A little goes a long way. Definitely recommend this plant food.

Care needed with some plants
4 January 2023

If you have Vals and Anacharis be careful using this product. It can melt these plants. Seachem recommends dosing every other day rather than daily for Anacharis. Some people have problems some don't but not wanting to take a chance I've been doing lower dosing every other day hoping to slowly build up their tolerance. Due to this I haven't seen as much change in my plants as others noted. Even though it's not equal to pressurized co2 as far an "alternative" this product actually works. I'm only giving it 4 stars since it should include a caution on the bottle about some plants sensitivity rather than just their website or word of mouth.

Crazy good!
3 October 2024

I have a 125 gallon aquarium, with lots of plants, somehow It got infected with this black beard algae. Well, I was trying everything! Nothing worked, as I watched all my plants die away that I worked so hard to grow. As a last ditch effort, I tried this product. I figured I was just wasting my money, but it was really cheap, so why not. Well, I dosed it right before I went to bed. Next day I got up, I was so friggen shocked! All the algae was withered and yellow color. 2 days later it was now where to be found, and I never dosed since the 1 time!

GREAT PRODUCT... if you buy it here :)

I LOVE Flourish Excel. I think it's a must have if you have a planted aquarium with low or DIY Co2. Although it's not intended to control algae, it DOES, which is a great side benefit. My plants grow like crazy and my Ludwigia and flame moss "pearls" with my first dose (I double the first dose, it works for me, but every tank is different so I would experiment before dumping it in) Also, if you are thinking about buying this, do yourself a favor and get it here. You will NOT find it cheaper anywhere else. Trust me, I've looked, because the $$ makes it too high to use regularly. I just bought the 500ml from my LFS at almost twice the price and I could kick myself for not looking here first. I always order my lights and other higher priced aquarium items from this ... MoreI LOVE Flourish Excel. I think it's a must have if you have a planted aquarium with low or DIY Co2. I always order my lights and other higher priced aquarium items from this site because their prices CANNOT BE BEAT - but I never checked their prices on the smaller stuff like de-chlor and my Excel. If I would have shopped here, I would've saved $14 altogether AFTER factoring in shipping. I have learned my lesson, and will be ordering everything from my lights to my fish food from this site from now on... and my Excel, of course :)

Great for Java Ferns
19 January 2023

I have been using this product for about 2 months and it has worked wonders on my planted discus tank. It is a medium light tank with lots of drift wood and many java ferns. Despite weekly 80 percent water changes, have always had a problem with beard algae. Always on the leaves and wood. After using this for 3 weeks the algae has all but disappeared and my plants are now thriving. What a great perk that it seems to kill the bad algae and make the plants grow. Works great with Java Ferns and helped my Anubis.

I'm VERY Happy On How My Aquarium Looks After Using Excel...

Before buying this I was well aware of the "controversy" surrounding this product. So I educated myself by watching YouTube videos about it and reading articles as well. The best article and advice was from smartaquariumguide dot com regarding dosing with Excel. It's a very informative with great illustrations and information that for me at least tipped the scales regarding trying it on my 10 gallon planted tank. While most will not call this product an algaecide it sure worked like one in my tank especially so on the Black Beard algae that was on one of my crypts. My dose for a 10 gallon planted tank with 8 gallons of water was just shy of a Mg which in drops worked out to about 14 drops per day EVERY DAY. 20 drops = 1Mg. Anyway I followed what this guy did only ... MoreBefore buying this I was well aware of the "controversy" surrounding this product. Anyway I followed what this guy did only for a 10 gallon tank and within 8 days you can see that the BBA is on the way out. The key here in my opinion is DOSING EVERY DAY. Why? Within 24 hours it's non detectable in your tank. So in theory wouldn't you want that replaced on the same schedule?? My tank said YES!!! And so far at least I like what I'm seeing!!

Revived my plants
2 June 2021

I have a very planted tank and I had bought some plants online. They came pretty much dead. The water wisteria was pretty much all wilted, had no roots, and was grown out of water so that is have to a climate it to submersed growth. I didn't think it would live at all. I tossed in a few stems to float just to see what would happen. That just so happens to be the same day I started dosing this fertilizer. All my plants started to grow some muck faster and bigger and greener. In just one week the water wisteria grew new leaves and shortly after grew roots. This fertilizer brought my plants back from the dead. Definitely recommend and I will definitely only use this fertilizer from now on. Even compared to the regular seachem flourish, the excel is superior.
