Seachem Flourite Sand 3.5kg
Seachem Flourite Sand is a specially fracted stable porous clay gravel for the natural planted aquarium. Its appearance is best suited to planted aquaria, but may be used in any freshwater aquarium environment. Seachem Flourite Sand is most effective when used alone as an integral substrate bed, but it may be mixed with other gravels. Gravel modifiers such as laterite are not necessary. Seachem Flourite Sand is not chemically coated or treated and will not alter the pH of the water. Seachem Flourite Sand is good for the life of the aquarium and need not be replaced.Use of Seachem Flourite Sand Although it is pre-washed, because Seachem Flourite Sand is a natural product, it may become dusty in transit and require rinsing before use to remove any residual dust. When adding water to aquarium, fill slowly to avoid disturbing Seachem Flourite Sand substrate bed. Place a bowl in the aquarium and add water directly to the bowl, allowing water to overflow softly on to the gravel bed. Initial cloudiness is normal. To remove cloudiness, use mechanical filtration (such as filter floss). Use Seachem Clarity to accelerate clearing.

Great looking substrate and if true about it's porous nature I expect the plants should root and grow better (too early to tell)Only 4 stars because 'this product is pre cleaned but may still need a rinse due to the product unsettling during transit' or something to that effect is the quote of the manufacturerMAY need a rinse. A LITTLE dust!!!Holy hell. I rinsed the hell out of it before adding to the tank and I'm glad there was no fish in the tank, it became so turbid you couldn't see 2cm inside the tank glass.Aside from that looks good which you get the dust out (hell of a challenge)

I ordered this because it claimed to not change PH.It doesn't !!! I've been doing a fishless cycle since April 9th and I test my tanks water PH every other day. It started with 8.2 (tap water) and it remained 8.2 for the last 3 weeks.I decided not to rinse it so I can have the dust settle at the bottom of the substrate....eventually. Didn't want to rinse the most nutritious part of a plant substrate down the sink. I regret it slightly but it would've not made a difference rinsing a little bit...this stuff is so dusty that every time you replant and even slightly stir up the top you get a brown dust cloud floating away into the water column.Don't get this if you have catfish, bigger type of shrimp or crays. For plants it is superb, lots of new growth on every ... MoreI ordered this because it claimed to not change PH.It doesn't !!! I usually don't write reviews but I decide to do one on this product because of all the negative review on all of flourite substrate. I bought 3 bags. I wash 1 bag at a time in a 5 gallon bucket. I sprayed water in the bucket to mix it up good and not just run water into it. Filled the bucket up with water and poured it out. It became clean after the first 3 washing. I decided to wash it about 7 times. The black substrate is a 1000 times better than the red substrate. I have use the red before on my first planted aquarium and I do admit it is some nasty stuff to work with no matter how many times you wash it. I ended up taken it out of my aquarium. A lot of reviews said the black substrate is the same as the red but it not. That is way I hesitated buying this. It is also smaller than the red substrate too but not like the sand version which is also something I love about it. Just have to see how it will grow plants now.

I have read lots of comments on other sites about the problem on rinsing this substrate. The problem is if you put this on a bucket and let the water run for minutes. if you do that you'll see the water has cleared and they think (Oh!, it is ready to go) and it is not. also they try rinsing the whole bag in one shot. (lol)and even if you leave the water running inside the bucket"for hours, or days) it won't clean it.My Advice is "Go in little batches, around half pound.put it in a big kitchen strainer, and you will see all the dirt coming out of it. give it a few passes under the water and stir it with your hand , move them to a little bucket, fill the bucket with the substrate inside, stir it with your hand and you will see it will keep getting clearer. " Repeat again, transfer the substrate into the strainer, rinse for a couple of minutes more, put it back in a small bucket. repeat until no more dirt comes out. After i was done washing the whole thing i didn't have cloudy water at all on my aquarium! This is a great substrate. i don't see why most people complaint a lot about it that no matter what you do seems like a never ending thing washing it!
I invested in eight bags for a 120 gallon tank about three months ago. I'm in a condo and don't have access to an outside hose so I rinsed it in tiny batches in a small kitchen colander until the water ran clear. I filled the tank and the water was red. I've drained the tank several times each week and it's still red. I can't imagine when I'll be able to complete this set up. I gave one star only because fifteen years ago I used flourite in a 75 gallon tank. I had an outside hose then. I had to take the substrate out of the tank and re-rinse it in the yard several times. It's possible with a ridiculous amount of work. I can't believe I was so stupid to buy this stuff again.
Using this in my 55 gal tank. It will cloud the heck out of the water at first, so give it a super good rinse before adding it. Its a bit heavier than regular gravel and it fits together more compact and really holds your live plants in place. Looks wonderful and natural. Color-wise, its a mix of browns with a few specks of lighter colors. Not super dark like the black version but still lets your plants and fish stand out well against it. I have 2 bags in my tank already but may need a third.
This is a gorgeous substrate! I love the color variation and the way it matches with my clay pot decor. Now that I have this substrate installed I can order my plants!Do your homework; rinse this substrate *very* thoroughly! I rinsed it in small batches in a colander over a bucket. My second batch I rinsed in small batches in a colander outside and it went much faster, but it is good to have options. After I placed it in fish tank I *slowly* filled it with water over the course of a few hours. The extra time and care is very much worth the fantastic result.
After reading reviews on Amazon about eco complete causing countless fish deaths I decided on this. I bought this product knowing full well it would create a mess. However we used a regular kitchen strainer and doing about 1/3 of the bag at time we used our corded shower head sprayer to rinse these until they ran as clean as we could get them. We then added it to our tank while it was empty and filled it up halfway. It was then very cloudy at this point so I followed another reviewers advice and did a water change lowering it back down to almost empty. We then filled it up while adding plants. It was slightly hazy but less than 24 hours later it’s perfectly clear. Make sure to dose with water conditioner (we used prime) and bacteria (stability). If you are starting a new tank it may tank longer to clear up as our filter and wood case from a fully established tank.We like this product because (1) you never have to replace it (2) in our opinion it looks more “natural” than gravel and went good with our darker wood.
Description says just wash off the dust before putting into tankNot sure if they have cut back on washing and drying as my 3 bags looked like it contained wet clayAfter washing twice it was fine and looks great in tank
