Seachem Matrix Carbon 2 Liters
SeaChem MatrixCarbon is a truly unique activated carbon, bead shaped for optimal hydrodynamics. This provides maximum water flow and contact with a high density of adsorptive sites without the compacting common to granular activated carbon. MatrixCarbon has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon has the lowest leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. It out-performs other best grade carbons by at least two-fold when compared for total capacity to remove aquarium organic matter, rate of adsorbtion, and duration of use. 250 mL will easily treat 100 gallons for several months. It is very clean and nearly dust free. The 100 mL bag size will fit any filter on the market and treats over 40 gallons. Marine or freshwater use. Works perfectly, loads easier than messing about with other carbons. You can clean it as well but for the price I just but a new one

Matrix carbon is like no other carbon you've used. It shape is small little balls that pack together very tight without interfering with the flow of water through it. It helps with filtering out the impurities in your water while polishing it at the same time. It can also be used with products such as Purigen to clean your water and give it a crystal clear shine.

Came in as described. All the research points toward this being the better carbon. I also bought purigen so we will see who wins out.

I am a huge fan if Seachem products & it's all because if this product. I've used other carbons in my H.O.T. Magnum canister filter & will NEVER use anything else but MatrixCarbon! The spherical shape of the carbon and how strong each one is, is amazing! The other carbons I've used looked like it was the left overs that fell on the floor and would disintegrate just by squeezing it between my fingers. MatrixCarbon does not compact like other carbons either & that is why I will never use anything else!
This is a low dust spherical carbon that works great in reactors.Compared to other carbons I've tried, I can get a higher flow through the reactor without tumbling (tumbling carbon is bad, it breaks off fragments that can harm your fish) and it rinses clear much faster. This pairs up well with Phosguard, which is much easier to deal with than GFO for similar reasons.
I added this to a reactor after I dosed chemiclean in my 125g reef tank to remove the excess chemiclean in the water system after a 40g water change. It not only took out all the chemical but it also cleared up the water a lot more and made my corals open up more. The reactors flow is only enough to move the top layer and not have it bouncing around all over the place. You do need a sponge or screen in your reactor since its small spheres unlike traditional carbon. I used different carbon before which took longer to take out chemiclean before then matrix did.
Nitrate levels stayed at a constant high level, according to the company representative this product will bring nitrate levels down in a salt water fish tank. There was no difference. I would not recommend this product. Spend the extra money and purchase a protein skimmer, use in conjunction of your charcoal/whisper filter for results!
Got this at a wonderfull price. As good or better than any other carbon I've used. My first thought was ...its just pelletized carbon in another shape. Nope... it works much better in a smaller amount. I spread about 100-150 ml (about a tenth or 10% of my 1L bottle in a bag) across the tray in my canister filter (cascade 700 in this case) to get the same results I got from the bigger bag of pellets
I've been using in my Cascade 700 for about 2 years, in my turtle aquarium with 35 gallons of water, for my So. Painted Turtle. With this particular activated carbon, I can go a full 2 months before replacing. I account for 40 gallons of water for measuring the amount of Matrix Carbon or 1/2 a cup. My Aquarium water is always crystal clear w 1/2 water changes and artificial plants, every 2 weeks. I feed my 3+" Painted, 2-1/2 yr old, in a separate clear plastic container. I had read that the Seachem Matrix Carbon had the highest rating amongst a couple qualified professional keepers. I did go three months w/o changing, but feel more comfortable doing every 2 months.
