Seachem Matrix Carbon 4L
MatrixCarbon is a truly unique activated carbon. It is formed as a spherical bead for optimum hydrodynamics, and will not pack. It permits maximum water flow and contact with its high density of macroporous binding sites. MatrixCarbon has a very low ash content as indicated by its minimal impact on pH. Even when added to distilled water, it does not raise pH above 7.0. While all carbons contain phosphate, regardless of false claims to the contrary, MatrixCarbon has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content of all major carbon brands tested. MatrixCarbon outperforms other high grade carbons by at least two-fold when compared for total capacity to remove aquarium organic matter, rate of adsorption, and duration of use. 250 mL will easily treat 400 L (100 gallons) for several months. MatrixCarbon is very clean and nearly dust free. For best results, MatrixCarbon should be placed so as to maximize the flow of water through it. It may be used in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter.

Haven't used yet as bought for emergencies but the product description tells you why this is better than competing products - as is usually the case with Seachem.

Haven put this in the tanks yet but am looking forward to it, I use normal carbon so itβs great to try something that should last a little longer and a smaller amount going a long way.

Matrix carbon is like no other carbon you've used. It shape is small little balls that pack together very tight without interfering with the flow of water through it. It helps with filtering out the impurities in your water while polishing it at the same time. It can also be used with products such as Purigen to clean your water and give it a crystal clear shine.
Great service took a while to arrive
Got this at a wonderfull price. As good or better than any other carbon I've used. My first thought was ...its just pelletized carbon in another shape. Nope... it works much better in a smaller amount. I spread about 100-150 ml (about a tenth or 10% of my 1L bottle in a bag) across the tray in my canister filter (cascade 700 in this case) to get the same results I got from the bigger bag of pellets
Does the job but the tiny carbon balls are too small to be used with my underwater bubbler corner box filters. The carbon produces a lot of dust in a filter bag.
I've been using in my Cascade 700 for about 2 years, in my turtle aquarium with 35 gallons of water, for my So. Painted Turtle. With this particular activated carbon, I can go a full 2 months before replacing. I account for 40 gallons of water for measuring the amount of Matrix Carbon or 1/2 a cup. My Aquarium water is always crystal clear w 1/2 water changes and artificial plants, every 2 weeks. I feed my 3+" Painted, 2-1/2 yr old, in a separate clear plastic container. I had read that the Seachem Matrix Carbon had the highest rating amongst a couple qualified professional keepers. I did go three months w/o changing, but feel more comfortable doing every 2 months.
The matrix carbon is the best stuff on the market.\nIt has lasted me for over 4 months until I had to change it. I have a heavy planted tank and over 30 some fish in my 75 gallon tank. Trust me. It realy works great. I will not by anything else.\n:)
seachem's matrix carbon is the best stuff I ever used. It keeps my 90 gallon aquarium crystal clear with a heavy fish load. Thank's big al's for fast delivery and great prices.
