I placed this drive on top of a stack of books about 9 inches high. I connected the cord it came with and went to plug it to my Surface Pro. Apparently, the Surface was a little too far for the cord and I ended up pulling the cord enough for the drive to come with it. What followed was a pretty hard thud, enough for me to be concerned about the drive. I cleared my desk and plugged in the drive only to find 300GB of files wiped out. Luckily, I'm using this drive as a backup, so nothing was actually lost. As I tried to eject it, a notification popped up preventing me from ejecting. This was new to me, as I am able to eject without any issues. I unplugged the drive anyway and upon re-plugging, a notification popped up saying the entire drive is corrupted and needs to ... For $100, I'd expect the quality of this hard drive to be a little better. If you are looking to buy a hard drive, please be take extra care into it when to open it out of the box.

Though it's still a bit early in the drive's use I'm impressed with the drive, the speed of it, the 4tb. HDD storage space, the installation, the seller and the seller's customer care re: getting the drive to me prior to the expected delivery date. The price is right, the drive is quiet, aesthetic, compact and seemingly durable. But then again I've only had it for a handful of hours. If anything changes I'll adjust the comments. P.S. The drive got a little hotter than I preferred when it was slaved out and sitting flat on the desktop. I have a pack of those little, clear glue-on "spacers" so I put one in each of the four corners on the bottom of the drive, raising it off of the desktop about a quarter of an inch rather than leaving it sit wholly on the desktop. The airflow underneath the enclosed drive after I put the spacers on each of the drives corners seems to have cured the heat problem tremendously. There's no fan involved, all's self enclosed in the drive but that little bit of space gained by the spacers seems to have done the trick. It's no longer heating up anything like it did shortly after I received it. I run it anywhere from 4-8 or more hours a day and have not had any problems. I've transferred my non-critical files to the drive and am even storing photos, running some games and accessing STEAM, ORIGIN, UPLAY/UBISOFT and other sites with little or no lag. I'm a fan of this drive. It was a great investment from my point of view. I'll be back another day if anything changes on my end.

I brought this for xbox 1 external storage, not going to lie I was concerned that it wouldn't be compatible, but it is. Dead simple to format to the xbox even I could do it without any instructions or referral to Google! Only issues I have incurred is with my actual box needing a cold reset because Noxi (console nickname) was being obnoxious and not loading up my game library. I have even added on backwards compatible games too with absolutely zero issues. I am yet to see if I can transfer my games from Noxi onto the Seagate, which can be personally named upto 30 something characters. It is very hard to fill I've so far used 15.9% of 4TB which is (if I remember correctly) 14 games, this is with 9% being pre used. I would definitely recommend buying this over ... 5 years ago, I purchased and used a Seagate External hard drive to supplement my dvr's hard drive to record tv programs. For years I enjoyed viewing at times most convenient for me. A few months ago, the recordings broke up into pieces and the audio was blurred or not heard at all. I suspected the problem arose because I had recorded over the drive numerous times since I started to use it. So, I purchased a new Seagate external hard drive to record the tv programs. To my extreme disappointment, most of the recordings are all broken up like those on my older external hard drive. If there is any way I fix this issue, I would love to hear about it.
Seems like it'll be all I wanted and more once it is formatted for use with Windows. Having paid for 2 TB I think Seagate could at least send this drive to customers along with instructions about formatting to the correct partition style. Instead they leave ya confused as to why your new drive is showing up with just 1 TB. "Setup is simple and straightforward; simply connect a single USB cable and you are ready to go. The drive is powered from the USB cable, so there is no need for an external power supply. Plus, it is automatically recognized by the Windows or Mac operating system, so there is no software to install and nothing to configure. Saving files is easy - simply drag-and-drop." Yeahh this is misleading. Don't be like me. Make sure to format your drives ... MoreSeems like it'll be all I wanted and more once it is formatted for use with Windows. worked for around 3 weeks on ps4 and just stopped, read about the fixes and nothing worked. During those weeks the device gave frequent issues and constant repairing of the device. I bought 2 of these and the first is still holding up on a separate ps4 but have gave the exact same issues. On the first ps4 the device had cause one of the games to glitch and never allowed to redownload it again stating i don’t have it. Sometimes it doesn’t allow me to play the games i downloaded on the device and it made my ps4 freeze multiple times (this has never happened before). I thought it was great on initial plug in until shortly after it was causing many issues at random. It would say things like i corrupted my device or unplugged it when it is always in the same position, untouched, since installed. It would also say i have to many usb devices plugged in (this is the only one) and deleted all games. The great reviews were what made me buy this but i can say i regret it, i would’ve gladly payed more money for a different brand if i knew this device would cause this many issues, possibly corrupting my ps4 for good.
I have been using eight of these drives for Time Machine backups over the past 2 years and they have worked very well. Unlike other 2TB drives, these drives provide a maximum transfer rate in Time Machine of about 100-120MB/s, which, compared to the slowest of similar drives, is 2x faster. This is with a 2015 MacBook Pro, using the drive on the MBP's USB 3.0 ports, backing up the internal SSD.If you need a 2TB drive purposed as a backup medium, these drives are the best I have found, and of the eight that I have been using over the past 2 years, none have failed. I highly recommend them and have bought a few more very recently.
Hi, I was looking for Seagates STLH2000400, as it had a USB C connection. No-one, not anywhere had any stock. Not even the competition. Ive had to settle for STKM2000400 which is a USB A only connection. The only difference to me is the connection cable and not using another dongle in between. As I am a Mac user with only USB C connection. As usual the Seagate Drives are well constructed and have access to a 3 year warranty. My family has a few other Seagate HDs for work and back up of photo albums. Never has these drives failed.Thnx
This was super simple for me to set up. I've never used an external hard drive before, only flash drives, and didn't quite know what to expect. The set up was straight forward. As soon as I plugged it in, the drive window opened and I clicked the get started for Windows icon. That opened a registration page, I registered, then clicked a link about formatting the hard drive. I didn't have to do that step because my hard drive was already formatted for use. I started dragging and dropping files to the expansion drive and, voila! The size is portable and it's lightweight so you could travel with this easily. It's not small enough to fit comfortably in a pocket, but still portable.
When I decided that I needed another external drive, I went looking for a Seagate that was similar to the one I've been using for the past three or four years. It's even better now than it was before. Development has led to it being smaller, thinner and lighter; it's now smaller than my Galaxy S9+. Performance has been excellent thus far, its speed is more than fast enough for me.Excellent price. Sure, I could have bought it for less online, but it's worth paying a little more knowing that, in the event of any issues, no packaging, shipping and time delays, I can simply walk into Office Works and get it dealt with on the spot.First time using Office Works delivery service.
