Disappointed in myself for waiting past the return period to find out the drive was bad. Even *more* disappointed that the drive was bad in the first place. I've used Seagate BarraCudas for a long time without issues. I've used drives from other manufacturers as well ... mostly without any problem. Occasionally, I'll get one that isn't recognized or detected. This is the first time I'm encountered one that prevents a POST. I've got two other storage drives & an SSD OS drive. Plugged this new one into a free SATA port and no power up. Switched to connections used for the other two drives and no power up. Used the free SATA port on the other two drives and didn't have any problems. It was definitely the new drive giving me grief. Basically you're getting a 3TB 7200RPM HDD for a really good price. Like, dang man that's pretty good in my books. I've been using the drive as a games drive/extra storage and it has been perfect so far. Access times are what I'd expect for a 7200RPM drive and it hasn't failed on me or had any signs of failure. So yeah, in short, it's a big ol' affordable drive.
I received this product yesterday, and it arrived pretty fast. It was well packaged. I used this as a 2nd hard drive for data. My OS is Windows 7, and at first my computer couldn't recognize the hard drive. I went to Disk Manager to set it up. I used GPT to partition the disk. Then it worked. I ran Crystal Disk Mark to test the speed. Here are the results. SeqQ31T1 Read: 219.0 MB/s, Write: 219.1 4kQ32T1 Read: 1.721, Write: 1.461 Seq Read: 219.6, Write 220.2 4K Read: 0.633, Write: 1.468 I copied 372 GB of data from my USB 3.0 external hard drive to this hard drive, and it finished in 39 minutes. So, real-world testing yields about 158 MB/s to write. As long as this hard drive doesn't break anytime soon, this review remains 5 eggs.

Environment: Full-tower PC case, SATAIII bus, tested good EVGA 650w PSU, used as primary hard disk for work, school, media files (video, images, documents). Failure Narrative: User opens file manager in search of an image which resides on the disk. No files are locatable in any directory on the disk. On reboot, fsck takes far longer than normal but completes. SMART shows eight consecutive "uncorrectable errors in data" events logged at 9751 power-on hours. SMART shows very nonzero "offline uncorrectable" and "current pending sector" counts. DMESG displays a repeating pattern of I/O errors. Disk does not appear writable. I'll keep my eye out for another ST3000DM008 PCB to see if I can further isolate the failure.
Sometimes you get lucky with drives, sometimes you don't. But the only experience I can speak from is my own, and the 25% failure rate I've observed so far from this Seagate 3TB model is not what one hopes to see in a drive. This could possibly be written off as a single bad batch that missed quality control, if all the drives were purchased at once, but they were not. I fully expect a few more of these drives to go south right after their 2 year warranty expires. Would not recommend this product if your time has value to you.
After installing, moved my steam drive over to this drive to take advantage of the extra 1TB over my previous drive. I enjoy having larger drives as my steam drive, I tend to go from game to game as my mood changes through the week and how much time I have after work or taking care of my son. Although steam makes it simple to move games between drives, I'd prefer it all in one place for simplicity, and this drive meets those needs for me, while being an excellent performer. I'd certainly purchase this product for myself or friends as I've done in the past. Never had an issue and all drives still running to this day.
The hard drive they sent me was not formatted NOR was the DVR capable of detecting it. I sent HOURS on my phone with Amcrest tech support... (they were polite but offered NO help!). Amcrest's solution was for me to take my personal computer apart and connect the hard drive to it for formatting... Assuming the hard drive would've been detected and the formatting worked, I'm sure that would've voided the warranty on my computer. I've already returned this item...Side note, I tried to purchase a completely new DVR directly from Amcrest and everything system i wanted was out of stock. I found a third-party seller and purchased a new DVR from them expecting a "plug and play" setup... it wasn't CRAZY as it sounds! That HD was ALSO undetected by that DVR as well!! The product is seagate baraCuda ST3000DM008, 3TB. This is actually may be the worst experience with any hardware I've ever purchased, after a few months it just stopped. I tried it on multiple devices just to make sure and it didn't work, I lost all my data and everything. I don't like doing this but I don't recommende it to anyone, save your self the time and effort.
