I bought to use as external drive/storage of processed images exported from Lightroom. After buying a new FAST computer the read/write speed to transfer data is at a snail's pace. It continually fails the integrity check from Lenovo software. Sometimes while in use, it just quits accepting data. Have ordered a new 4TB SSD and will probably retire this one to the back of my storage cabinet. I would not recommend if you're going to use with photo processing operations. I use this with my Xbox Series S, to store my games. You can’t play the series S/X games on it, but you can store them on it. You can play and store last generation games on it. Luckily all my Documents folders and files were up in my Dropbox which I recovered. I then deleted the Seagate Mirror plan and reinstalled it. And yes the DOCUME~1 was reinstalled again. This is the first Seagate External HD I have purchased. I usually use WD External Hard Drives for my MacBook Pro. Although I, just, recently began using this drive, I find it ti be just as good as WD Drives. It seems to be faster too. The, only, thing that is an issue is with it's security / encryption ability. WD Hard Drives come mac OS formatted and have a quick and seamless encryption program. However, with the Seagate One Touch 5 TB Hard Drive, I had to reformat the drive to work with my MacBook Pro. Reformatting the drive, also, erases the drive in the process. Thus, any security software on the drive is lost. Now, I am finding it difficult to figure out a way to get the security software so I can encrypt the drive.
What a piece of Krap. Trying to get it operational following the directions is useless unless you download krap they want you to have which isn't necessary. I tried to initialize this drive without accepting any of the junk they wanted to put on it and it wouldn't allow me to continue without purchasing junk I didn't want. Are all portable hard drives like this now. Do you have to put products on them or they want let you use them? What a ripoff. I busted it with a hammer and threw it in the trash. Where can I find one of these that simply allows you to copy files to it without merchandising krap you don't want?
I received this little gem on March 19, 2022, to replace an older external harddrive. At first I was quite pleased, and transferred my important stuff. 2 days ago, Feb 18, 2023, my new Seagate 2 TB external harddrive *FAILED* with no warning. A hardware failure. I am seriously unimpressed; been using a computer since the late 80s and expected more from Seagate. If you choose to purchase this product, have a backup for your backup.
