Died after 1 month of light use with just a few games installed. Nothing else was installed on this drive.

Garbage. I took my chance with Seagate and they have failed me again! I have had bad luck with Seagate in the past with their drives failing. I have stayed away for from Seagate for about 10 years and the first drive I buy to give them another chance fails after 1 month of light use. Never again will I buy another Seagate product! Funny how ANY other brand has never failed me like JunkGate has..... Junk, Garbage and a waste of time and money! I cant believe Seagate is still in business! Go with Some other company and save yourself a headache!

Good performer, but hard drives are so 20th century.

This Seagate Hard Drive performs as good as, but not better, than any other hard drive. That is to say, it has tremendous storage capacity for a dirt cheap price, and will give good (speedy) performance until it begins to fill up. Really, don't even consider using this as a boot drive (the drive your operating system is on). Spend $65 for a name brand 256GB SSD, and then install this hard drive in a spare drive bay in your case. Load the operating system on the SSD and store your files on the hard drive. While you are at it, spend $75 on a 2TB USB hard drive and back up all your files to it. You won't regret spending the extra money when one of the hard drives crashes (and they all do eventually).

Had never purchased a hdd from Monoprice, only cables of different types. I trust Monoprice has having good quality products so ordered this product. Arrived as expected and packaging was good. Put the hdd in an external case connected via usb. turned it on, formatted, and saved some data to it. Works as expected, no problems at all. I should note that this hdd was unformatted and had no partitions of any kind. To me this was good since I use only Linux and end up reformatting any hdd I purchase anyway. Everything went smoothly with the formatting. Good hdd for a great price.PROS: Great price, unformatted, nice sizeCONS: Haven't found any yet

Hot, fast, loud, and cheap!
10 April 2019

I purchased two of these in 2018 and I'm running them dual-boot with Windows 10 and Linux on desktop PCs. These are not quiet drives and they run a bit warm. On the plus side they are cheap, fast, and easy to configure. I don't just use them for bulk storage--these are boot drives. I'm 100% satisfied with these drives and I would not hesitate to purchase again.

Ramjet won't take responsibility for flawed advice
26 November 2017

discussed known iMac HD replacement fan sensor issue with Ramjet technician and followed his advice on purchase to avoid it. Once new hard drive was installed, OS X downloaded and time machine restore completed, we experienced the fan issue anyway. Clearly, Ramjet's advice was off the mark and as a result we're in a pickle: hours of work invested in the install and restore. Ramjet's only solution is to return the hard drive, leaving us out of pocket on the work and still no fix!

Relatively quiet enterprise HDD for PC, good value 128MB cache HDD
24 March 2019

Purchased a refurbished ST2000DM0033 for $40. Installed it today, runs quiet particularly when idle (noise level below my fan noise in a 1yr old Pavilion PC). It made loud clicks when I transferred large number of files from my boot SSD to this one, perhaps a usual feature I haven't come across. I cannot comment on reliability yet. Currently using it as a secondary backup for my important research data. So, I will know in 6 months...

Reliability when you need it for your home or work.

I read on the 1TB version some guy had issues copying the drive or cloning it. But I presume that was either the user mistake or the device error. Now in my many years of experience a lot of times users tend to be the problem. But anything is possible. I did a fresh Install and I have done cloning with no issues. Could had being the software of lack of knowledge I can't tell. Also take into mind that this HardDiskDrive will encrypt the data randomly inside as is fed with it.. This could make some cloning tools useless I would think. I have work with Enterprise equipment and Hardware for a long time now. Usually I would never had think to buy such a high quality HDD for personal use. Storage and cache size, reliable transfer speeds with low noise and temperatures
18 May 2021

64MB Cache size helps maintain consistently fast transfer speeds. Does not seem to run hot to the touch, like other hard disc drives. Good build quality, has proven reliable under different configuration demands.

WARNING - NOT CLEAN PULLED
7 January 2017

I purchased 2 of these drives. I received these drives in good condition installed them and they work “apparently fine”.HOWEVER:Each drive had about 36,000 - 38,000 hours of use or about 4 1/2 years of continuous use! These drives are scam! BUYERS PLEASE BE WARNED - THESE DRIVES ARE NOT CLEAN PULLED!I am not the only one to discover these drives are heavily used, please do not purchase.

Works great!
26 April 2021

Works great but is a little louder than I anticipated. A good buy for the price! {Please note: if you're reading this review and the excess noise gives you cause for concern, don't worry. It is louder because it's a business drive for applications like data centers, so there's no acoustic canceling. I just didn't realize it when I bought it}
