Excellent Drive plus a warning for MacOS users.

Bought this drive to replace an aging NAS. I didn't need the network connectivity anymore and this was a great value and an excellent drive.A warning to MacOS users, reformat the drive to APFS before using it. I learned that one the hard way. MacOS can struggle with an exFAT partition this size. Just reformat to APFS before using.

This is the first brand new hard drive that has failed within months and I’ve bought quite a few over the years.I’m currently using Seagate’s File Recovery Software to try and retrieve important photos and videos. The software keeps crashing, so Seagate told me to send the drive to their lab, with a minimum of 30 day fixing time.I have two other back up hard drives, to keep multiple copies of my photography work, but this hard drive is my main working drive. The corrupted files resulted in my other back ups being corrupted as well.So now I’ve lost important photography and videography work as a result of taking a chance on this brand. Devastated

I recently purchased a second-hand Seagate Desktop Expansion STEB10000400 10TB USB 3.0 HDD from Cex and was thoroughly impressed. The hard drive was in excellent, almost new condition, providing exceptional value for the price. Its performance has been flawless, with ample storage space and quick data transfer speeds, making it an ideal choice for my extensive data storage needs. The buying process at Cex was smooth, with helpful customer service. Overall, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend Cex for quality second-hand tech buys.

Great Price, Great Product.

Though it's still a bit early in the drive's use I'm impressed with the drive, the speed of it, the 4tb. HDD storage space, the installation, the seller and the seller's customer care re: getting the drive to me prior to the expected delivery date. The price is right, the drive is quiet, aesthetic, compact and seemingly durable. But then again I've only had it for a handful of hours. If anything changes I'll adjust the comments. P.S. I tried to attach a photo of the drive connected to the laptop while I'm writing this but the phone's camera just won't cooperate. # >>>>>>>>>>> 05/27/2021 An update to the overall review (and the other parts of this review). The drive got a little hotter than I preferred when it was slaved out and sitting flat on the desktop. I have a pack of those little, clear glue-on "spacers" so I put one in each of the four corners on the bottom of the drive, raising it off of the desktop about a quarter of an inch rather than leaving it sit wholly on the desktop. The airflow underneath the enclosed drive after I put the spacers on each of the drives corners seems to have cured the heat problem tremendously. There's no fan involved, all's self enclosed in the drive but that little bit of space gained by the spacers seems to have done the trick. It's no longer heating up anything like it did shortly after I received it. I run it anywhere from 4-8 or more hours a day and have not had any problems. I've transferred my non-critical files to the drive and am even storing photos, running some games and accessing STEAM, ORIGIN, UPLAY/UBISOFT and other sites with little or no lag. I'm a fan of this drive. It was a great investment from my point of view. I'll be back another day if anything changes on my end.

It was amazingly easy to figure out how to use.

I have several Seagate External Drives and I could not be happier. The product is outstanding. I only have one minor request, I wish I would have requested some assistance at the very beginning of using this latest purchase. You have an amazing product and it has helped me so much to keep my designs I use for our church to create beautiful altar linens. I was able to figure out the program of the 8T Seagate Hard Drive mostly on my own. Thank you for having such a wonderful product!!!

Received free upgrade
14 June 2024

I purchased the 12TB model, but received the 16TB model. Although I am happy with this upgrade, I am concerned of potential issues if I needed to file a warranty claim. It works well and benchmarks are decent. This is my offline NAS backup and am happy it was shipped double boxed for improved longevity. More filling between the boxes may have helped reduce impacts during shipping.

The product isn't exactly as described-misleading.

The description, the image and the box all say "for PC and Mac", but inside the box there is a message saying the opposite. The leaflet in the box reads " NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING....This hard disk is only suitable for windows system and XP system, not suitable for PS4, XBOX, Macbook, TV, etc."How can this "warning" be inside the box and not listed on the item description?I bought this "Expansion" hard drive to extend the storage of my PS5, but I can't also use it for my Macbook according to the note inside the box. See the picture included.

Too Soon to Say, but Good Performance Thus Far
1 July 2024

These 18TB's are my second pair of large Seagate Expansion drives. Just bought a pair of 14TB's a few months ago. I've been using Seagate drives...many of them, for many years. A few have failed, but there is no such thing as an immortal hard drive. That's why we back them up!!! Anyway, I've been a Seagate guy for years and until they decide to make crap drives, I'll continue to store my valuable assets on them. One of the reasons I've started to buy such large drives is because of my Panasonic GH6. That lovely camera ONLY shoots minimum 10bit video files...no more 8bit...thus the files have become larger than life in short order.

[Rewarded Review] Reliable, compact, quiet
9 May 2024

This 12TB external hard drive packs a punch in a compact size. Upon connecting it to my PC, it's instantly recognized, and the storage folder pops up, making it a quick plug-and-play experience. While it does need a power supply to function, I appreciate its ability to power through the USB port. What's truly impressive is how quiet it operates and its ability to maintain a cool temperature. With ample storage for multiple devices, this drive easily handles the task at hand. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with its performance and reliability.

[Rewarded Review] Seagate 8TB Expansion Desktop USB 3.0 External Hard Drive

I have had many Seagate 8TB external HD over the years. They have all work well and consistently performed. About the only complaint is that the form factor have not changed over the years...I would have preferred to have the 8TB external drive shrink in size over time and get rid of the external power supply. I really like the form factor of the Seagate 5TB external drives and it is unfortunate that the 8TB HD size is more than twice that of the 5TB HDs. Why can't Seagate offer a 10 TB ( 2 5TB HDs stacked together form factor) instead of an 8 TB in a much larger form factor ( almost 4 times the size of a single 5TB HD) than two 5TB external HDs? Furthermore, it would be wonderful if Seagate and do away with the external power supply requirement of the 8TB HD as ... MoreI have had many Seagate 8TB external HD over the years.
