Got this as an xmas gift because my internal hard drive was filling up and I didn't want to have to deal with transferring stuff between my slower external drive and the SSD, and I hate deleting games only to have to download them again later for the new season or whatever. There's not a lot to it. Plug it into the dedicated slot in the back of the Series X and it's good to go. Transferring between the internal SSD and the expansion card is super fast, load times from the card are pretty quick but don't seem quite as speedy as the internal (but also not nearly as bad as from a USB drive). It does seem to be persnickety about the connection - a couple days after I installed it I was getting errors saying it couldn't be read properly, but after taking it out and ... MoreGot this as an xmas gift because my internal hard drive was filling up and I didn't want to have to deal with transferring stuff between my slower external drive and the SSD, and I hate deleting games only to have to download them again later for the new season or whatever. There's not a lot to it. In order to ensure that all users have experience is at a certain level, Microsoft has limited storage options for active game playback to either the internal drive or this approved proprietary Seagate storage unit. Is this expensive? Yes. But with many games taking 50-100GB of storage space, the internal 1TB drive (minus system and other reserved space) can be filled up with just 5 to 10 games. This drive allows fast access to play more current generation games. Some things that you should know. 1) You can use an regular external SSD or HD for playback of previous gen games that do not have the X|S designation. 2) You can temporarily move unused X|S games from the internal or Seagate storage to a regular external SSD or HD for storage of games that you may not plan ... MoreIn order to ensure that all users have experience is at a certain level, Microsoft has limited storage options for active game playback to either the internal drive or this approved proprietary Seagate storage unit. Quick and seemless addition to my Xbox X. The drive is instantly recognized. You don’t get a full 2TB, it’s close to 1.8 TB with partitions and software installed. You can play directly from the drive all games up to and including Xbox S/X games. Which you cannot do from an external drive. The cost is expensive but the performance is incredible. Since Seagate is the only manufacturer of this type of expansion expect the cost to stay high.Would recommend if budget allows and you need more space

Pros: This thing is fast - there's next to no difference between this and the Xbox Series S's internal SSD in terms of data transfer rates, and copying or moving files between the two of them was blindingly fast (like 6Gb/s fast). It knocked the socks off the old USB 3.0 external SSD I had before (which the Xbox had complained about when I had tried to install a new game on it).Cons: You pay a premium for this device. To a certain degree it's a case of "you get what you pay for," and there's no question about it: this product is very good, if not essential for the latest gen Xbox consoles. But to some degree it feels as if you're paying extra for the proprietary interface and Seagate's exclusive use of the Xbox brand on the device.
First off there's nothing wrong with the product or seller. It was sold in great condition for a used item and functions as intended. The packaging was great. Everything was great As far as the actual product goes, it's disappointing that such an ultimately small amount of memory is so expensive and also basically necessary to take advantage of an Xbox Series X. This is currently the ONLY SSD expansion you can use for the Series X that will take advantage of the system and play newer games. Other external hard drives and even solid state drives will not utilize the internal hardware and will not play most series X enhanced games and will not play official series X versions of newer games or exclusives. Considering how large current games are, you will fill up your internal SSD and even this 1TB SSD very quickly 2TB should really be the minimum in internal drive, and should be a more affordable option for external. As it stands a 2TB official external SSD is about $400 As far as I'm concerned I got a steal for a used 1TB for under $200
It only hurts until you get it home. Then you will hold it. And it will feel rad and solid and heavy for it's size. Then you will learn that the hardest part of making things happen is turning your unit. After that, your Xbox tries to keep it a secret. It asks nothing of you, and doesn't even thank you for this gift you have bestowed. The Xbox knows, You don't even remember the money anymore. You were defeated before you even made your first install.Take the red pill.
Bought this for my series X since I was lacking heavily in the storage department. Yes you are absolutely correct, it is extremely expensive for storage nowadays. But being a PC game this is not new for me. Most people will be freaking out about the prices, but for a 2tb drive at $400…. That actually is cheaper than most 2tb nvme drives for PC. Even look at the Ps5’s storage solution. Sony is using gen 4 nvme drives from PC’s. For my ps5 it costed me $500 to get a 2tb with a heatsink. So actually it’s cheaper than what they could have charged people. Unfortunately most console gamers and consumers are behind on what good quality pc components actually cost in the real world so they are just going to nab about how expensive it is. Either way, totally recommend the ... MoreBought this for my series X since I was lacking heavily in the storage department. I do think this is a good product and it does work flawlessly in the Xbox Series X and S. I put no on the "Good Value" because I do believe it is a little high at it's current price, but it is a new product and could come down in price which is pretty much controlled by Microsoft. It is good quality with seamless plug & play in my Xbox series S. I purchased the 1 TB model and have relegated it to holding my XB apps and games that are reverse compatible & XB One games. The games work just as if you had them on the hard drive with no difference in performance I can see. Plus it saves time if you were storing your games on a external hard drive that you would have to move onto the system to play.
I have the Xbox series s all digital. I was able to buy it at a walmart store a few months ago. I was surprised they had a few in a case, it was the first time I've seen a new system in a store that I could get. I was hoping to get the series x but scalpers are very expensive. Any way the series s only has 364GB of space available, it's not much space for X/S games. I have 7 X/S games installed in the internal and it's almost full. A 1TB and 2TB cost a lot of money and this one is the cheapest at $140.00. It only has 456GB of usable space so I should be able to install about 10 X/S games on it depending on the size of the games. I plugged it in to my series s while it was on and it activated right away and so far it's working good and fast. It arrived at my APT in ... MoreI have the Xbox series s all digital. Technology is advancing for consoles, to the point we need a specific SSD for them (NVMe PCle 4) to have the best performance because a regular SSD or HDD isn’t going to help much. This Expansion card is literally a custom built SSD made exactly for that Series X/S, that being said yes it is annoying because it’s pricey however… without this seagate card you can’t download or play “Optimized games” which is Next Gen.Also the Series X is literally an expensive high end performance gaming console because if you decided to build a gaming PC and match up exactly spec by spec from the Series X, you’d have to spend a minimum of $700 just to match up! It LITERALLY costs Microsoft $398 to build each Series X because of the advanced, performance of it! It LITERALLY costs Microsoft $398 to build each Series X because of the advanced, performance of it! Microsoft wanted to put the Series X in the same world as Gaming PC’s except 3/4 cheaper and more advanced than expensive priced matched gaming PC!PC gamers never seen this coming to consoles. They don’t even have such a Advanced custom SDD!!!…. specifically for a Series X/S! So BUY the expansion storage, because your UPGRADING your console like a gaming PC except better! True fact! Gaming PC’s don’t have a CUSTOM factory built SDD likeA regular SATA SSD is older. *You can still use them for all your other games that aren’t advanced (Optimized/next Gen)like myself. I use a Samsung T7 SSD 50GB ($150) for almost two years now and it’s amazing with 2.5GB download speeds but now there’s actual “Optimized/Next Gen” games that have came out since Series X/S making it worth this purchase! It is NOW literally a no brainer, and Hey latest consoles are literally gaming pc’s just not with Windows 10-11 lol.*Also DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE A SERIES S, SAVE THAT MONEY FOR N A SERIES X! Two birds one stone exactly, because Series X comes with a 1TB! So buying a series S and then an expansion card? Not worth it unless you don’t want a series X.
