F40 scooter is fun!, has a payload weight of upto 120kg (im 98kg), and it reaches its max speed of 30k's relatively quickly. The claimed distance of 40k's is from running it in "standard mode", which ive never done since purchasing. I've only run it in "sports mode" (which is where max speed of 30k's is from), I've never completely drained the battery to 0%, but what I can say, is that (in sport mode), and with the battery going from 100% to 50%, I had covered about 12.6 kilometres in distance. On a reatively steep hill climb, I only lost 5k in speed (although I went "into a dip" at 30k, and climbed the other end at 25k by the time i reached the top)One could almost assume that the total distance in sport mode would see you get about 25-30k distance. Its "ok" to ... This scooter is a great buy for the price, it's got me everywhere I need to go. I weigh 65kg and I love how fast the acceleration is and the 30km/h speed. the range is definitely not even close to 40km though, the most I've ever gotten is probably using eco the whole time and only then did I get 32km out of it. the advertised 20% climbing gradient is garbage, going up a 5% hill it will slow to a crawl and stop.Ive owned this scooter for a year as an upgrade from a Xiaomi 1s and its been a very worthwhile upgrade, the only thing mainly wrong with it is the tyres. I hit 3000km with it and had the rear tyre pop, I replaced it and the tube popped again within 2 km. this would be fine but there is nowhere to buy the new tubes from?! I ended up finding some on trade me ... MoreThis scooter is a great buy for the price, it's got me everywhere I need to go. I'm using the scooter for about one month now. Today I went 9km with the scooter to drop off and pick up my car from the garage, the scooter was down from 5 to 1.5 of five bars and didn't go anywhere near top speed anymore. My daily commute is 2.5km one way and I can do 4 to 6 trips before I have to recharge - that said, the last trip usually is at 10km/h. I would estimate the range is maybe 15km for typical use, it is nowhere near 40km.With full battery, downhill and tail wind it may go 30km/h, but typical speed on flat ground is rather 25km/h. Also the 20% climb is simply unachievable if you are anywhere near the max weight, probably you push the scooter uphill.I find it quite disappointing the F40 doesn't go anywhere near the specifications, or specifications ... There is only a rear disk brake, it really should have both front and rear brakes.A lock can be pulled through between two tubes at the front, that's a good thing. The lights are OK, but not great. Compared to my e-bike the scooter's lights are not great. For people who use this in darkness (for example commuting in winter) better lights are highly recommended.I cannot get the app to track travel or do anything useful. There is no anti-theft function via the app, which is disappointing. Now, this isn't a bad scooter, but it's certainly not a great one. If I had known, I would have bought a better one, but I guess I was sucked in by the Segway name. That's the risk of buying online and assuming the specs actually do apply. This scooter will suit someone who is way lighter than the 120kg limit and travels short distances on flat ground during daylight hours. And someone who doesn't expect the app to actually do something. If that's you, this is a good budget scooter.I still give this 4 stars, because it's good for what you pay.

I spec shopped a bunch of scooters to replace my old M365 (non pro), and this one looked great on paper; bigger wheels to ride smoother & go over bumps easier, more power, a better headlight, mechanical rear brake. Some of them were more key than others, I like the rear mechanical brake, as a front brake is more likely to cause you to tip over and faceplant, I like the folding mechanism as it eliminates a point where the deck and front wheel can move relative to each other (as its one piece), and removes the worry that it will come apart while riding..I took it out of the box and put it together & it looked good. But then I went to ride it (after setting up the mandatory connection to the Segway app).It needs a good kick to 5-6km to get going (it seems to take ... It does have a good top speed when it gets there. The limited power at low speed causes problems when you slow down, for example going up a hill, it puts less power into the motor, causing further slow down, and when you drop to 5km/h it just stops, and you're walking the scooter. NOT happy about that feature, I live in a place which has hills. The spec sheet (& manual & website) says it will go up at 20% incline, but going up my street which would be about 5%, it just slows to a crawl and stops (I'm like 90ish kg, so well under the 120kg max).In a flat city like Christchurch, this scooter would be alright, (port hills aside), but in Auckland or Wellington, its terrible, not fit for purpose & not worth the money. One other thing, the F40 is not rated for use in the rain or any sort of wet weather (user instructions state "do not ride scooter in the rain or through puddles")My old M365 goes up the hills fine, through puddles & in the rain & even after 3 years & 2500km its still going strong (I use it for commuting), I was looking for something better, which this is not. There don't appear to be any alternate firmwares for the F40 yet either (as of Nov '21), which would let me adjust the various annoying parameters.
I’ve put about 500 miles on this thing and I love it. It’s my first escooter and I’m hooked. I’m 170 lbs and realistically I’m putting 15-20 miles on it with a full charge (depending on temp, wind, terrain). That’s not bad for what’s reported on the box. I’ve had some issues getting it to charge when it’s very cold but that’s to be expected. The stem screws come with loctite but make sure you fully tighten them or they will come loose. Also if you want to maximize your range make sure you are keeping the tires inflated to the right PSI.I only have one real complaint, and that’s the design of the kickstand. I took a corner too sharp while riding up a small curb leading to a trail/sidewalk, not realizing how far the kickstand mechanism protrudes from the bottom. I ... I took a corner too sharp while riding up a small curb leading to a trail/sidewalk, not realizing how far the kickstand mechanism protrudes from the bottom. I hit it on the curb going 15-16 mph and the impact spun me 180 degrees and I hit my shin super hard on the base of the stem. The cast housing of the kickstand cracked in half but the kickstand still works. My shin healed in about three weeks. My final comments are that this is well worth the money (I paid $533 on sale) and I have caught the escooter bug. I just ordered a P100S and I can’t wait.
I’m a father of five children. I have bought many electric scooters over the past 10 years and me weighing 215lbs this bad boy is fast hits top speed no problem. Even comes with an extra 10 inch full size tire! Must down load the app on phone to take full advantage of any of the Segway products. You can adjust the lights and speed on the app and track movement etc. If you download the Segway app my sons user name is TylersRidez and can see pictures and videos in posting section. Very cool well built scooter which I’m sure will last a long time. Thank you Amazon for making purchase easy! Had delivered in one day as advertised. All around great experience. Will upload videos of scooter soon but for size I uploaded a picture of scooter next to my GMC Yukon XL. It’s a beast!
I got this scooter primarily for a short, one-mile roundtrip commute to/from the metro (24 minutes of walking vs 4 minutes of riding a scooter really adds up week after week). I wanted a scooter that was at least 18 mph, can get at least 15 miles of range (the more the better, though), and that I could easily lock to a bike rack. For me, it ultimately came down between this scooter and the Ninebot Max.I ultimately chose this one for one reason: the frame near the front wheel splits in half (two bars) on this scooter vs the single bar on the Ninebot Max, meaning it would be a lot easier for me to secure a U-type bike lock to it. It was also slightly cheaper, about $100 or so.I've had this scooter for about five months now, and have zero complaints for what I paid for ... It was also slightly cheaper, about $100 or so.I've had this scooter for about five months now, and have zero complaints for what I paid for and how I use it. It picks up speed fairly quick and holds a good charge. I've taken it on a couple longer trips (about 8 miles roundtrip), which drains the battery to about 50%. For how I ride (usually on sport mode), I'd estimate the range at about 16 miles. The speed does decrease significantly with both wind and/or any sort of incline. If this is something you plan to ride every day for at least a mile or two, and/or you plan to ride in an area with significant elevation change, I'd recommend looking into something with a more powerful motor/battery. This thing can slow down to a crawl (about 5 mph) going uphill, and sometimes comes to a complete stop for really steep climbs. Also, strong winds can slow you down on flat terrain to about 10-12 mph. However, for my light use, this thing is perfect. I take it to/from the metro, sometimes to the grocery store, and on a good day I'll take it to the gym (about 4 miles away). It's nice to ride outside, save money on gas, and not worry about parking. I'm definitely more of just a casual rider. Thankfully, too, my area has a lot of rentable scooters throughout town, so I'm personally not as worried about my scooter getting stolen (although I use a high-quality Kryptonite u-lock every time).
I’m seeing a lot of negative reviews regarding runtime, incline & max speed. We bought two of these. My wife is around 130lbs and I’m closer to 170. She can take off slightly faster than me but we both top out at the max speed of 18mph (or 22 downhill). My battery dies about 20% sooner than hers due to the weight. Which is to be expected due to the weight variance. I’ve take these down mountain roads in Oregon where the inclines grades are posted and both of us were able to get up 20% grades (tho she climbs faster & I have to kick a little to keep up). We usually ride fast in “standard” mode and I’ve never got less than 17 miles on a charge. My wife usually gets about 19 miles. We’ve owned them for about a year and used them all over the country. They work great just as advertised. I only wish they’d made some of the plastic clip pieces out of metal. They’re very easy to break when traveling with these in a vehicle. Particularly the safety clip where the scooter folds up. I’d give them 5 stars if not for the plastic accents. For $800 you could have spent the extra $3.For those that do have complaints (unrelated to warranty claims): They do not advertise that you’ll be able to climb hills at top speed. It’s not a Tesla. The steeper the grade the slower the climb. Sport mode helps but uses more battery. Kick a little if you want to climb faster. Exercise is good for you. You will not achieve the max range when traveling at the max speed. The max range of 25 miles can be achieved in “eco” mode where top speed and torque are limited. Our friend that’s about 215lbs had no problem getting over 18mph in “standard” mode on a flat road. Please read your manual. Do not charge your scooter in the cold. You will ruin the battery. It will be your fault. This is how all lithium ion batteries work. It’s not specific to Segway. BRING THEM IN YOUR HOUSE WHEN ITS COLD!Side note: I purchased a Segway Ninebot about 6 years ago and I’ve used it for videography hundreds of times. Way easier than using rails. It’s never had an issue and has seen some rough miles (about 4000) through rain, snow & mud on every type of surface you could imagine. Still holds about 95% of its original battery capacity after 1000+ charge cycles.
Performance may vary... for real. It lists a top speed (18.6 mph) and top range (25 miles) and the caveat that performance may vary, but they aren't forthcoming about how great that variation will be. I ride it to work 4.8 miles and it's at 50% when I get there, and there is never more than a 5-10% grade the whole time. Once the scooter hits about 15% battery life it kicks over into ecomode and performance REALLY drops then.It rides comfortably enough, and if you're a smaller person, then maybe this is right for you. However, beware the handle bar!! Even a road no bumpier than your typical asphalt street will vibrate the scooter enough that the screws holding the handle bar start to come loose. Every time, without fail. Bring that little special allen wrench they give you everywhere you go, because a regular one doesn't fit as well. The scooter gets the job done, and I've put over 100 miles on it so far, but if I could go back I'd buy a different one and won't buy an F series again.
I use it to commute to and from the subway and my office. (About 8 miles round trip) I bought this model because of its weight. It folds up easily and isnt much of a burden to carry up and down the stairs. It charges in a few hours. Battery life is OK, I live on top of a steepish hill, it's only failed on me once while making it up and the battery was under 40%. Being fwd, I just lean back a little and it seems to climb alright any other time. It will do 19mph all day on flat ground, 15-17mph up less steep hills and on a good day it will hold 9mph on sport mode with me weighing 175lbs + whatever is in my backpack up a steep hill. Brakes are decent. The throttle isn't very smooth. I feel most comfortable at full throttle. And I don't bother to use anything other than ... And I don't bother to use anything other than sport mode, especially while ascending hills.I am a bike guy and usually prefer to just ride my xc mtb to the office and skip the subway all together but this is a good change of pace especially when I need to rest.
