I love the clarity of this mic. It also cuts through the mix quite well. Sennheiser makes great mics across the board, and the e865 is certainly no exception. It really makes for a wonderful lead vocal mic, along with its big brother, the e965, which I also own. I use the e865 in our church's rehearsal room and the e965 in the sanctuary, which is a much larger room. I highly recommend either of these mics!

Before purchasing this, I actually purchased a Sennheiser e965 condenser vocal, which is apparently their top-of-the-line handheld vocal mic. While it was certainly a very high quality mic which I am sure works great for many others, it just didn't fit my voice, even with some EQ experimentation. So, I sent it back and decided to try the e865. Yes! Incredible warmth and presence, able to cut through the band with room to spare, great intelligibility. Short story, I love this mic!

I needed a high quality mic under $300 for some narration project in my home studio. This mic picks up subtle nuances and delicate texture of female voice nice and clean. But it doesn’t pickup unwanted environmental sound including my husband’s piano practice upstairs. Amazing. A nice silky touch on the handle and its timeless design make it all elegant. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I would highly Recommended this microphone for recording and live venues. Ive always ways used other brands like AKG Shure , however to my surprise this microphone is awesome! And will continue to use this for future recordings Note its a good time to get one as they have been on sale. Check it out !!
Most of us working musicians will spend a lot of money and time trying to get great PA gear and just the right musical instrument.If you are a serious vocalist, you owe it to yourself to get a great mic too.Most vocalists overlook their mics by sticking with the "old tried and true" mics like a 58. Many of the dynamic mics are very good but these newer condenser mics designed for stage work are much better. If you have never used one, you will hear the difference at the first gig. The older dynamic mics do not capture many of the subtle nuances in your vocal performance. These condenser mics do not have that weakness.I bought my first condenser by chance and was impressed right away. I've always been a Shure user, I own both the legendary SM58 and Beta 58 and never had a complaint about either. Our band hired a new live sound company for our night club gigs. He wanted me to use the Sennheiser 865 and I was reluctant to give up my Beta 58. After the first show, I finally gave in just to shut him up. It wasn't long into the first set when I began to notice the difference. I am an extended range baritone (solid bass to 2nd tenor range) and my voice never sounded better sing rock, blues, ballads and jazz standards. I managed to find lightly used Sting model of this excellent e865 mic that was used for the American Music Awards broadcast, so I got a good deal and the best mic I've ever owned.
Much better than my dynamics as a vocal stage mic. No issues with feedback, and plosives seem controlled.However, the top-end of this condenser mic is still more rolled-off than I expected based on the frequency response graphs compared with my studio condensers and calibrated measurement mic. Microphone FR graphs need to be taken with a grain of salt.The On/Off switch works great, and is silent in use.

The other surprise that comes with that super-cardiod pattern is when you see photos taken while you are singing and your entire face is often showing, unlike with a dynamic mic where photos usually looks like you are eating the mic. The audience can see the part of your facial expression created by your mouth. That is not a big deal but in performing, every little positive adds to the overall performance quality.Adorama has a great price on these Sennheiser e865 Mics. I personally like singing into a condenser. Any mic that can make me sound better is worth the money. THIS one really nails it - it's a good-quality condenser in regular-mic form. I perform live with it, and also use it in the studio, on both vox and instruments. I think it sounds amazing. I've been very happy with the clarity, crispness, and detail. It's quiet. Maybe a skootch heavy for a handheld...but I use mic stands, so I don't care. A liiiiiitle bit pricey; but I got a great deal on mine. Even at full price it'd be worth it, but at a lower price, it's a no-brainer.
I have used a variety of excellent dynamic mics over my decades as a lead vocalist. Quite a few years ago I was at a concert and saw the lead vocalist using an e865s. The sound was stunning. I saved up some money and bought one. Best investment I ever made. It instantly gave my voice more presence. It solved some feedback issues. It is an amazing mic. I read a lot of reviews that say vocal mics are as distinctive as each person's voice. There is some truth there but overall, you can be fairly sure the e865 will be an amazing upgrade over ANY dynamic mic. I have a friend who bought a pricey Heil dynamic. I used it and it was nice but my Sennheiser e865 just blows away the Heil.
