What an amazing pair of headphones. The plush cushions on these headphones means they are very comfortable and can be worn for hours without worry of them becoming uncomfortable or sweaty. The headband is adjustable and allows you to resize to your preference. The Smart Control App is easy to use and allows extra functionality by unlocking better control of the onboard features. The noise cancelling is excellent. When compared to my Bose NC700 headphones, I would say those are slightly better, but it is still very good and works well for crowded environments and public transport. The battery life is phenomenal, and means you don’t have to stress about how recently you remembered to charge them. I comfortably got about a week of sustained usage which is very good ... MoreWhat an amazing pair of headphones. The Smart Pause feature means your music is automatically paused when you take the headphones off your head. This is not something I have come across before and it is actually very useful in different situations. My favourite thing about these headphones is the sound quality. When it comes to listening to music, the sound is beautiful! Generally, I like my music balanced with not too much bass, and they were great for this. There is the option to play with the frequency in the app so you can fine-tune your music to your preferred taste, but it is still absolutely fine out of the box. For someone looking for a premium pair of headphones to use for work, call, gaming and exercise, these are a solid choice! The battery life in particular is what sets these apart from all the other premium headphone choices. I very much recommend these!

I already had plans to buy these but after my Sennheiser CX wireless earbuds took a tumble in the washer, I kinda had to get these. I was already aware of the numerous issues that people had with these headphones but after having these for 2 weeks, I never ran into any of them. First Impression- Overall really like the look of these with the fabric headband and an all-around clean look. A little plasticky feeling but it isn't the kind of cheap plastic you would find on inexpensive headphones. Sound Quality- Now I'm not a big headphone person or audiophile guy but to me, these sound great and are probably one of the best-sounding over-ear wireless headphones I've ever owned. Super clear sound and very good bass. Call Quality- Mic is what you’d expect. Not the best ... MoreI already had plans to buy these but after my Sennheiser CX wireless earbuds took a tumble in the washer, I kinda had to get these. Super clear sound and very good bass. Call Quality- Mic is what you’d expect. Not the best but it's good enough for calls. I was able to hear clearly from people on the other end and they heard me on the other end perfectly fine. Side-Tone works great too however I don't like hearing myself so I keep it off. ANC- It really isn't that bad, although it doesn't match the quality that Sony headphones have, it's enough to water out most sounds around you however lower frequencies tend to pass through. App and Controls- The app is super easy to navigate through with a lot of settings to choose from. One of these settings would be an equalizer so you can mess around and find your own preferred sound configuration. Touch controls definitely took some time to get used to but they are very reactive to touch and I don't think you’ll need to do any double tapping. You can also disable touch controls if you don't like them. To address pairing issues, I had absolutely none. Might be different for you since I do still see these complaints every now and then. Comfort- Comfort is something that comes down to preference and to me, these were very comfortable on my head. I have a very large head so I had to adjust these to the max and they fit super well. Ear cups are nice and soft and the padding on the headband is firm on the sides and super squishy on the top. Overall super comfy on my head and I’ve yet to run into any issues with discomfort. Battery Life- Battery life is also pretty great too. 60 hours of battery life is more than plenty and can last you a whole week depending on how often you use them.

These are all around great headphones. Great sound signature, crisp highs, balanced & clear mids, and good bass extension without being overwhelming. They connect to my Galaxy s23 Ultra nearly instantly after being powered on.The app works well and gives you a good amount of customizability. This includes an EQ for tuning the sound, or a "Sound Personalization" option which is great for those who aren't as familiar with using an EQ.The noise cancelation could be a bit more effective. I've found that the ANC is more than sufficient as long as I'm listening to music. However, if I'm just using the ANC to get as quiet an environment as possible, I still get a good amount of noise coming through. Not a terrible amount, it's still a pretty dang good ANC ... MoreThese are all around great headphones. The 60 hour estimated battery life is no joke. Even with the aptX audio codec and ANC enabled, I can easily get through a week or longer without needing to charge these. If you're looking for a premium pair of over-ear wireless ANC headphones, these easily get my top recommendation.

Amazing sound, battery life and look.

I'm going to start this review by saying that before buying these I tried the Sony MX5's and Bose 700's but ended up returning them. I thought that because they were more expensive that they would be better but I guess that is not always the case. These headphones have a beautiful and crisp sound while the base just sounds right. It comes with an audio cord just in case you wanted to plug them in for a slightly better sound. They look so nice and the headband and ears muffs look and feel premium. Battery life is crazy good at around 30 hours, I charge them about once a week. I get paranoid sometimes and look at the battery life but I'm always amazed that it they just hold a good charge. The app works just fine for me and the adaptive sound is cool. The app works just fine for me and the adaptive sound is cool. My AC turns on and off throughout the day and the headphones change the noise cancelling strength accordingly. At first the noise cancelling would feel strange, like if you are on a plane, but with time it either went away or I got used to it. I honestly don't have any cons, specially with how much these go for, except for maybe this feeling I have that the ear muffs will have to be replaced in a year or two. I wear glasses and after a few months it is starting to change the shape of the earmuff. The only headphones which I think are better than these are the new Bose Ultra Comfort Headphones but they cost twice as much and I don't think it is worth the investment.Definitely recommend these headphones.

I've had the Momentum 4's for almost a year now, so I think I have a pretty good understanding of the characteristics of these headphones.-Sound profile: Neutral (can be tuned for preference, but not particularly bassy)-Volume: Quieter than competitors, but still gets loud.-ANC/Transparency: Passing, good for cafes and offices, not great for outside.-Battery Life: Amazing. Charge them once a week to full (around 8-9 hours of use a day)-Comfort: Great for my big ears and piercings.-Build Quality: Solid, with a little wear on the fabric and ear cups.So firstly, I quite like the sound profile of these headphones. Charge them once a week to full (around 8-9 hours of use a day)-Comfort: Great for my big ears and piercings.-Build Quality: Solid, with a little wear on the fabric and ear cups.So firstly, I quite like the sound profile of these headphones. If you like other Sennheisers then you'll probably like these. They don't punch you in the face with bass, and the app gives you a fair amount of leeway in tuning the EQ to your preference, but if you like the bass out the wazoo then these headphones are probably not for you. I think that the neutral sound profile is the main factor that may turn you off from enjoying these headphones. That is not to say it's bad, but Senneiser just prioritizes other aspects of audio than other companies, its something to be aware of before purchasing them. The volume on these headphones is one of the weaker characteristics. Although I generally don't like the volume to be super high as I'd like to be able to hear when I'm 60, compared to some of its competitors the Momentum 4's are pretty quiet. Although when maxed out the volume is fine for my tastes, my friends mentioned the lack of volume while testing them out. Although I think the lack of volume is a safety feature imposed by Sennheiser, I've plugged them in while utilizing a Woojer vest and they got as loud as any other pair of headphones. The ANC on these headphones is just okay. It works well enough to drown out most of the ambient chatter (so long as nobody is yelling) and humming on public transit, but some of the louder noises like passing cars are still audible. I'm not impressed by the noise cancelling so if this is why you're here then you'd be better to look elsewhere. The same is true for transparency mode, it works but is nothing mind-boggling. These are great for cafes, public transit, and offices, but fall apart in louder environments. The battery life is great. I can fully charge them once a week, and maybe a secondary quick charge depending on usage, but I generally get pretty close to the 50-55 hours of playtime before I need to plug them in. Keep in mind that the headphone automatic turn-off time only works when they are still connected to your phone, so if you disconnect them from your phone and don't turn them off the headphones will stay on and drain. So remember to either turn them off when you are done or keep them connected. These are comfortable headphones. I'll wear them for 4-5 hours at a time without experiencing ear fatigue. I have relatively larger ears with piercings, so finding headphones, that don't have too much clamping force and comfortable ear cups is a nice bonus. The build quality is pretty good. I take pretty good care of my stuff, but I'm not delicate with it by any means. I have the mentality that my stuff needs to be able to keep up with me. these headphones have a little bit of wear and tear but nothing abnormal. The fabric on the top shows some signs of fraying on the top, and the ear cups have some wear, but they are still in good condition. The ear cups can be replaced, so don't worry if they do begin to experience some wear, replacements can be purchased from Sennheiser. Finally, the price. if money isn't a factor, you can find other headphones for a little more than these that surpass them in several ways. But, if money is an important factor in the purchase then these headphones are worth the money. I'd buy them again if I were to lose them.

Great ANC Headphones All Around With Some Quirks
4 October 2024

- Sound Quality: It really is the standout feature. Compared to competitors such as the WH-1000XM5s, it has a clean sound signature out of the box with defined, but slightly recessed mids, clear vocals and bright highs without being too shouty. The bass response is long and crisp, and sub-bass is surprisingly present. Though not as punchy as competitors from Sony. The mids can be brought to life even more through the 5-Band EQ, or the Sound Personalization feature, which does parametric tuning in the background which the EQ cannot achieve. The only real flaw for the sound quality is the soundstage, which is never going to be fantastic on Bluetooth, closed-back headphones, this means overall instrument separation and details while decent, will not be able to match a ... More- Sound Quality: It really is the standout feature. The mids can be brought to life even more through the 5-Band EQ, or the Sound Personalization feature, which does parametric tuning in the background which the EQ cannot achieve. The only real flaw for the sound quality is the soundstage, which is never going to be fantastic on Bluetooth, closed-back headphones, this means overall instrument separation and details while decent, will not be able to match a wired, open-back headphone. Overall, the sound quality is slightly behind, but ultimately comparable to the Sennheiser HD620S, in my opinion, it can achieve 70-80% of that fidelity. Especially if your purchase the Sennheiser BTD600, or the Creative BT-W5, which allow for the aptX Adaptive Codec on your Windows/Mac computer or iPhone.- The Build and Comfort: In my opinion, these are both better with the M4s than the WH-1000XM5, in particular if you have a large head and above average protruding ears. The ear-cups are deeper, the clamping force is not as strong, and the headband has thicker padding. With that said, there is more material around your ears since the ear-pads are thicker, which means it is easier to get hot wearing these compared to the XM5. The ear-pads are also pretty squishy, some may like that, some may not. The build quality is much sturdier than the XM5s, the hinges have more resistance when adjusting, which means they hold their spot. And they are also thicker and sturdier feeling, I cannot imagine these snapping off at all. The plastic is also more grease/oil resistant.- ANC/Transparency: The XM5s are better. Especially at blocking out mid/high frequency noises, think about sitting in a Starbucks, that sort of environment. If we're talking lower frequencies, such as an A/C unit or sitting in a car/airplane, the gap is close, but the XM5 really do make the world go almost silent; Whereas you're still aware of what you're hearing when wearing the M4. Transparency is comparable between the two, the M4 boosts everything more, so while it is slightly clearer, it is also a bit more robotic or "Fake" sounding. The XM5s sound more muffled, but what you do hear is more natural sounding. They both have a wind blocking feature that work equally as effective, they don't remove the sound wind makes necessarily, but they remove the wind "Effect" you hear and also feel as it hits the ear-cup. The Adaptive ANC on both I found to be pretty poor for different reasons, the XM5s adjust too much, and end up doing it wrong. Whereas the M4s hardly adjust it at all, kind of pointless to turn it on. If the XM5s are 9/10, these are a 7.5/10.- Mic/Call Quality: The XM5s win here too. Mics are comparable in voice pickup as well as clarity, but the XM5s do much better with deleting background noise, they don't clip your voice either. The M4s don't clip your voice, but you can still hear the background a little bit. If you're taking a call from somebody wearing them I mean. I will also quickly mention that in general, Bluetooth is quite stable overall on these headphones, the range is quite far too.- Battery Life: No comparison. Even though some people report the XM5s get over the claimed 30 hours. I can confidently say that the M4s definitely get above the claimed 60 hours. If I had to guess based on my weekly usage, I'd estimate more like 65 hours. If you use these 9 hours per day, you'll only need to charge them once per week, it's fantastic.- Controls: This is where I start to bring it down to 4 stars, I think the controls themselves are quite nice and intuitive. One simple tap is pause/play, two taps is ANC/Transparency, then the usual swipes for volume/skipping and reversing. You also get pinch controls to adjust the ANC/Transparency. Pinching inwards reduces Transparency/increases ANC, pinching out does the opposite. However, the touchpad is extremely sensitive, and has no options to reduce it, but you can turn them off. If you barely tap it, not even with your finger, such as when adjusting the fit of the ear-cup, the touchpad can easily go nuts and start doing stuff. There is also a power button. TO PREVENT THIS, just turn off the On-Head Detection feature. Then you can just use the power button.- Features/App: The auto shutdown feature when putting it back in the case is quite nice, but ultimately not required, since there is a power button. It also automatically turns out when you take it out of the case and once again, the touchpad becomes an issue. The headphones connect extremely quickly, and while that sounds nice, once again the touchpad sometimes starts doing stuff if you touch it with any sort of skin. I recommend once again either turning off On-Head Detection, or turning the headphones on and then getting the right fit before you start doing anything on your phone/computer to avoid any wrong inputs. The app is pretty good, you can adjust the wind blocking settings, as well as if you want to turn on or off Adaptive ANC. You can also set how much Transparency you want in phone calls, and if you want it to auto pause when you double tap to activate transparency, so you technically get Speak-To-Chat. You can manage the 2 maximum devices you want connected, and use the Sound Personalization/EQ as mentioned before. Also, in the settings you can activate the High Resolution Audio mode for when your phone supports any aptX codec, otherwise it will remain in AAC. Bluetooth dongles override that setting. Lastly, you can have it auto answer calls, and can set a timer for when it will auto-shut down when not being used.

Great sound hamstrung by subpar ergonomics
22 December 2023

I've had the Sony WH1000-XM3 since 2019. I love that headphone like a friend. It's been with me through thick and thin. Its ANC performance is exceptional. Its comfort is superb. I can wear it for hours and hours without developing any distracting pressure points or muscle tension.Unfortunately, I find the XM3's sound merely passable. It's a bit too warm/muddy resulting in a lack of textural clarity and detail separation, and its soundstage is quite small. I listen at home using HiFiMAN Arya Stealth headphones connected to a Schiit Jotunheim 2 / Bifrost 2 stack, and I really notice what's missing sound-wise when I put on the Sonys. That's why I purchased the Momentum 4. I listen at home using HiFiMAN Arya Stealth headphones connected to a Schiit Jotunheim 2 / Bifrost 2 stack, and I really notice what's missing sound-wise when I put on the Sonys. That's why I purchased the Momentum 4. I'd heard great things about their sound, especially for the price. For $250 on Thanksgiving weekend, why not give them a shot? To start with the good, the Momentum's sound absolutely does live up to the hype. It separates musical details significantly better than the XM3, and it renders an impressive amount of textural detail for being bluetooth. The Senn's default tuning pushes too much sub-bass for my taste, but that's easily EQed.Unfortunately, the Momentum also created a noticeable pressure hotspot at the top of my head, and its clamp force made my jaw muscles tight. I wore the headphones a lot for a couple weeks, but the issues weren't appreciably reduced with break in. The XM3's headband pad is much more curved so it doesn't flatten out when you open the headphone, allowing it to contact more of your head and distribute pressure more effectively. The Momentum 4's headband, conversely, does flatten out when you move the cups apart, and the result is insufficient cranial contact area causing a pressure hotspot after only a few minutes of use. The Momentum doesn't slide/shift as much as the XM3 due to its greater clamp force, but I'd trade a little less stability for a lot more comfort. The Senns gave me jaw tension more often than the Sonys move around.I use my ANC headphones on my commute (public transit — I don't wear them while driving) and at work. I wear them for hours in a row sometimes. I need my headphones to not create unpleasant physical sensations that distract from the music, let alone give me an outright tension headache. The Momentum 4 does both, and break-in didn't seem to help, so it got the ergonomic veto and was returned. All that said, if the Momentum 5 fixes the 4's ergonomic issues and equals or betters their sound, Sennheiser can count on my money. The 4 is fantastic tech hamstrung by comfort issues that I'm sure they have the expertise to fix. Will they? I don't know. Progress isn't assured. The Sony XM5* is less comfortable than the XM3 in my opinion and in the opinions of everyone I know who's tried both. Fingers crossed.P.S. The XM3 has better ANC than the Momentum 4, but the Momentum's ANC is still pretty solid.P.P.S. Best Buy should add a "Comfort" category in the section where you can rate sound quality, battery life, and connectivity. Ergonomics are a top consideration with wearable tech.*I don't own the XM5, so I'm not going to do a big comparison, but my impression of the XM5 after an admittedly brief test is that it's more comfortable than the Momentum 4, but the Momentum 4 sounds better.

Great sound, disappointing features
2 December 2023

Let start by saying the sound is excellent, so for their primary purpose these fit the bill. What drops this to 3 stars for me are all the features that take away from the experience instead of making these more pleasant to use.Pros: excellent sound quality, battery life, good app support, comfortable, included case and cablesCons: sub-par noise cancelation, auto off, auto pause, touch controlsThe pros are pretty self-explanatory, these headphones are very good as an audio sound device however the features are poorly executed. The auto off takes forever to activate and it doesn't recognize putting them in the case so you need to manually disconnect (making you also need to manually reconnect). The auto off takes forever to activate and it doesn't recognize putting them in the case so you need to manually disconnect (making you also need to manually reconnect). The auto pause when you take them off would be a great feature but it only works with the right ear cup and is overly sensitive on top of it. I couldn't count the times I scratched my ear or slightly adjusted the fit and had what I was listening to pause. The controls are all capacitive and on the right ear cup only, except for the disconnect/power button, and are pretty annoying to use in my opinion. I'd rather have a slider or buttons on the side of the cup instead of the whole side of the cup being a touch surface (which can and does get hit when using these while laying down). Now while these cons may sound minor, the sheer frequency with which these annoyances occur makes these headphones frustrating to use at times. A fan could excuse them as "quircks" but for how expensive these headphones are this many "quirks" should not exist. If I could go back in time, I would shell out the extra money for the Sony headphones.Do I regret this purchase? Not fully, they are good headphones overall with high fidelity and great battery life, but they wouldn't be my first recommendation. They are noticeably better soundwise than my old skullcandy headphones, but at over twice the price they had better be.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 - An Excellent product!
30 December 2023

The sound quality is Very Good to Excellent. There is sufficient Bass for most discerning audiophiles and in my opinion only the most extreme bass enthusiasts will require more. That being said, with the EQ that Sennheiser provides through their app... MOST people will be able to tune these to accommodate ALL of their listening preferences. They can be played loud enough to border on painful at full volume... but there's really (IMHO) no good reason to have to push ANY Quality headphones to their maximum limit.Bluetooth works extremely well and can be connected to multiple devices at once. When my phone rings it stops playing audio from my TV/PC, and with a tap on the right ear, allows me to take calls without futzing with them. The color is a deep dark blue ... MoreThe sound quality is Very Good to Excellent. When my phone rings it stops playing audio from my TV/PC, and with a tap on the right ear, allows me to take calls without futzing with them. The color is a deep dark blue which I find quite appealing, and the tan color of the cushioned areas goes very well with it.The texture of the headband pad is slightly different (a bit thicker/smoother) from the ear cups, but both are very comfortable. The outermost ends of the headband are NOT padded, however you would have to have a very large head to run into issues with that. My head is quite big and since the headphones are very malleable when putting them over your ears AND they adjust quite a bit, I have no complaints with the fitment at all.NOTE: I do have smaller ears than some, but there is a good 1/2 in of space around my ears, so these should actually work as Over The Ear Headphones and not borderline On The Ear Headphones for most people. The ear cups being made of a softer more 'breathable' material then the headband means I can wear them for hours without any discernible discomfort. While the headband is made of slightly different material it is still quite comfortable and should hold up to slightly more wear and tear (think bald guy) then the ear cups over time. The ear cups are replaceable however I cannot find any replacement headbands as of the writing of this review.I hope this helps.

Until major changes, consider other headphones...
22 November 2023

I really wanted to love these headphones, especially after spending so much money on them. I've owned Sennheiser products for years with the last pair being Momentum TW 3 earbuds, Which I would recommend to anybody.Pros:- The product feels and looks like it's worth the price, the quality all around seems excellent, it comes with a case, USB-c charger, 3.5mm to 2.5mm cable, and an airplane charger.- The sound quality is excellent and the adjustable Active Noise Cancelling is great.- Phone calls have been clear and problem free.- The Battery life is pretty solid, I can usually get through 3 days of 5-6hours listening (varying levels of ANC).Cons:- The headband is one of the worst headbands I've ever experienced on a pair of headphones, it's angled forward and ... MoreI really wanted to love these headphones, especially after spending so much money on them. With the headphones sliding forward constantly you lose the Noise Cancelling because the ear cups don't completely cover your ears. So I constantly have to readjust the headphones, l cannot stress how annoying this is.*(I have a large head, so I never imagined this being an issue)- The touch controls are really nice, except that sometimes they just don't work, if you lean over or raise up your arm you'll likely pause the audio by brushing up against your shoulder (you can turn off touch controls, but then you're left controlling playback by pulling out your phone constantly).- The touch controls just stop working randomly, I've had these headphones for over a month and this has happened more times than I can count.- The headphones try to sense when they're on your head (if you take one ear cup off, they will change to let audio in so you can speak to somebody) but the issue is that it regularly cannot determine whether or not it's on your head, which interferes with certain features like double tapping to activate/deactivate ANC, tap to play/pause, squeeze/expand to adjust ANC. So you suddenly can't control anything and taking the headphones off once or twice might fix it.- Using Siri is difficult, you can click the power button once to summon Siri, but there's no audio cue that it's listening and the response is a faint whisper, I have yet to find any solutions for this...I've loved all my previous Sennheiser purchases, this however is the first one I would recommend people avoid, some of the issues could be solved with software updates, but ultimately this product doesn't feel like it passed the testing phase and we're the test audience.I wish I had returned these headphones to buy a better pair, but unfortunately I'm left with these and I hope Sennheiser does better in the future.
