Replaced a 20 year old Sharp microwave with this one. The grey interior is a lot darker compared to white interior, but looks very nice. We don’t find the interior light bright enough but the microwave is in a darker part of kitchen. Another review said it was too bright. Not to us. It’s perfect for what we need and user friendly. The Owners manual comes with great tips and tricks and recipes! Buy it! You won’t be disappointed. Ps.. plates larger than 12 inch may not fit. Measure first. The only negative was the shipping packaging. We requested extra padding and a fragile sticker on outside. We live in a remote area and a lot of big items get damaged. Luckily it was not damaged and it was shipped in its own box. No surprises and all our neighbors knew what we got!

This little microwave oven meets our needs quite well, however I gave it three stars because the door opens to only 90 degrees. Our previous Sharp microwave opened wider and made it easier to put dishes into the oven. Our kitchen is small and a bit tight. We bought this oven because our previous Sharp Carousel oven lasted only 3-4 years due to a faulty door latch that allowed the oven to operate with the door open. We are hoping for better this time around. What a shame to put an otherwise operable almost-new oven in the landfill! Repair costs approximate the cost of the new oven. My review is a comment on Sharp products in general, not this oven only. We purchased another Sharp Carousel because it was available locally and the only oven that fit in our kitchen.

On the plus side it does run quietly in my opinion and the overly-loud key-press and end-of-cycle beeping can easily be enabled or disabled. My old Sharp SMC1131CW failed after many years of excellent service so I was pleased to see that Sharp had built on that model with the SMC1161HW. I purchased mine about a week ago from Best Buy and have found it to be even better than the previous model. It runs much quieter and offers a few more cooking and heating options than my older model. It makes perfect popcorn with the preset button and handles all of our other cooking and heating needs very competently. It is very easy to use and is nicely built. I used Best Buy free shipping and the Sharp microwave was delivered safely and on time. Highly recommended!
This is a great microwave. It has buttons to cook for 1 to 6 min at one touch, plus a 30-second button. It allows two-stage cooking. It also allows cooking for less than 30 seconds, which, of course, all microwaves should do, but I've seen reviews of other microwaves that say they don't. This 1000-watt microwave cooks as fast as myprevious 1100-watt microwave. I was concerned about the lower wattage, but it's just fine. As others have mentioned, the interior is dark gray and the interior light isn't very bright. I would prefer a brighter interior. It doesn't bother me, though. I can see the food as it cooks and can watch for it boiling over, which is something myprevious microwave couldn't do. I am very happy with this microwave.
When i opened the door the first time there was a very strong chemical smell coming from the inside. I put a box of baking soda inside, closed the door and let it sit unused for a full week. When I opened it again and removed the box of baking soda, the smell was still there not quite as strong but still unpleasant, so i put a fresh box of baking soda in and left it for another week. After 2 weeks of waiting, the smell was very faint. So I used it for the first time. So far, i am satisfied with how it works, But, every now & then, when I open the door, I can still smell that same chemical odor.On the plus side, the control panel is easy to read and the oven works & does heat food and beverages quickly. This Sharp 1.1 cu ft microwave replaced a microwave I've had for 35 years. The microwave seems to work just fine, but the power cord is so ridiculously short! The operations manual talks about "longer cord sets or extension cords are available", though when I called Sharp customer service regarding the how short the power cord is....they knew nothing of longer cord sets. And I will never use an extension cord on a kitchen appliance. The power cord is so short, I now have to move the microwave cart off center (from where it's been positioned for the last 23 years) just to reach the outlet. I'd like someone to explain to me why the power cord is so short. Table lamps have longer power cords!!!

I purchased this Sharp because it was similar to the Sharp Carousel that I owned for 30 years until the start button broke away. The dark interior makes it difficult to see if the interior is dirty or clean....but light interiors were not readily available, so I sacrificed that preference. I've been very pleased with it. It is reasonably quiet, and the only problem was that for 30 years I just entered the time and pressed start. Now I have to press Cook Time, enter the time and press start. It's difficult to remember after doing it the other way for 30 years! It was a very affordable microwave, especially at Christmastime.
I can't compare this microwave to other brands because it is the third Sharp Carousel that I've had. One in our rental house was left there so, no idea how old it is but is very powerful and has worked well for us for 14 years. At home ours quit after 18 years. I recycled with electronic products but saved the glass round table in case ours gets broken. I'd say we got our money's worth in these times of unrepairable small appliances. This new one works similarly to the other two and is more compact and has a dark interior (stains inside won't show so much). Couldn't be more pleased. Quality product for us.
