This is an amazing reel. It maximizes casting distance and does a tremendous job preventing backlashes. I have tried to purposely backlash it and never did. It is a great reel to start leaning how to cast a baitcaster. You can cast a 1/8 crankbait on a moderate heavy fast action rod probably 30 feet, where with a regular baitcaster it wouldn’t go 10 unless you have lottery winning luck. As for the negative review not to bash Tony but he probably didn’t set up the baitcaster right. It does make noise but that is the computer chip inside and I know me and numerous other people like the noise. There are few setting you have to adjust in order to get the rod ready, in fact I have only adjusted the dial for my line type and the spool adjustment knob. You could probably get more distance changing the brakes as well but it performs flawlessly right out of he box. It is a financial investment, but the quality is worth it and will last years. Tight lines!

I bought this about 2 years ago when I was still new to using a baitcaster. I will be honest, those videos on youtube where they cast it, don't thumb stop it, and it doesn't backlash are a little deceiving. But regardless, you will never get a terrible birdsnest no matter how hard you cast it *if tuned right. Some people don't like the sound, I love it but its not that big of a hinder anyway. It's a great reel that if you plan on using as your main baitcaster, is a great investment.-A happy angler from Texas

Some of my fishing buddies said I was “insane” to purchase this reel. Funny, then why are their mouths always open when I cast. Totally awesome and well worth the money spent.I just cannot get enough day light hours while fishing with this reel. It exceeds all my expectations. I must have for any angler.

This is a small size reel; light weight and smooth casting. The DC technology helps reduce backlash when you change heavy bait to light bait. The sound when you cast probably annoys someone but is funny to me. All my reels for bass fishing is Shimano Curator DC.
Bought this reel about 4 months and was really disappointed with the number of backlashes I got. Many more backlashes than my Curado K. I read the directions several times on how to adjust it and did it the way it said - adjust the cast control knob until there is no rattling or axial movement of the spool. Took it back to BPS today to either exchange it or get my money back but first I talked to the guy at the reel counter. He has two of them and he loves them. He tightened my cast control knob at least 1 more round. We took it out back and on #2 setting - I have copolymer line it cast like a dream. I don't even have to thumb the spool and the end of a cast. A couple of weeks ago I was trying to use it in Minnesota, constant high winds, and it was impossible with the backlashes. So if you are having that problem tightened the spool tension knob. Can't wait to get out on the lake with it.
I took a chance and bought the Curado DC after wearing out a few of my older bait cast reels. I was definitely impressed by its smoothness. But I was really impressed when I took my eight year old nephew striper fishing. While I was rigging up his rod I hear the sound of the reel and that little sucker is casting it out like a champ. He had never used a bait caster in his life and I would not have taught him with that reel because it was spooled with braid. I let him finish up that trip using the Curado because I was curious to see how long it would take him to backlash it. He never did, and that kid can backlash a spinning reel in a heartbeat. Would I buy one for a kid, "Heck no". But its nice to know the braking system is that good, that you could. I have fished with Shimano reels for years, was super excited to try this reel out. While I like it, it wasn’t quite the game changer I thought it would be. Really anticipated buying eight more to replace my old reels. Not doing that just yet. Reel is smooth and does well on finesse baits. Still manage some loose line at times.
I have 3 other good quality bait casting reels so I do have experience using bait casting reels. I’ve only fished with it twice since I got it about a month ago. I can’t say it is backlash free. I wasn’t able to cast it consistently with out a backlash. I tried to cast as I’d seen others do on YouTube where they cast, never touch the spook and showing it not backlashing. I found that, for me, it worked best when I applied very slight pressure to the spinning spool. As I said, I haven’t had it long, so this may improve as I become more familiar with it. While I was on the lake, I compared the distance I was able to cast with another quality bait casting reel on an identical rod using the same lure. I was able to cast the Shimano 10-20 feet farther. I received this reel from my father in law for Xmas. Reel has performed flawlessly. I did end up buying the SLX DC as well and honestly love both but the Curado just feels better to me but I definitely would recommend either of them to anyone looking for a quality reel. I will buy another Curado DC soon for another setup and happily pay the little extra for it with no hesitation!
Looky here son it’s a Shimano built with class and she’s smooth! $260 plus tax absolutely not. The DC braking system isn’t a end all backlash system she’ll nest on you. Maybe not on 4 setting and tensioner tightened although if that’s the way you’ll fish this reel DON’T this puppy ain’t for you. Handles beautifully, nice palming, drag, power etc. 7:4:1 it doesn’t play with bass it’s a well crafted baitcaster just a little overpriced. It should retail at $174.99
