Shimano FD-R8000 Front Derailleur Ultegra 11-Speed Braze On

Always concerned about buying fake items. This turning up in just a jiffy bag with no other packaging, shimano or otherwise made alarm bells ring....but comparison with my old genuine but broken mech seems to be the same, so along with it being the cheapest (but clearly not fake) available and quick delivery makes this a good buy. Works as well as expected so far

Been riding Ultegra for many years and this is by far the greatest design of function improvement of any group I've ever ridden! Shifting-ease is right on par now with DI2. No lie, the dual pulley system movement is not only shorter it's now just a finger tap away from instant movement. I was literally stunned to see and feel how fast and effortless it was going from small to large chainring! I almost want to buy one at this price for a backup but having just retired my previously used 6700 after 30k+ mi. (still functional but not black) I imagine not replacing this mech for quite a while.

Easy install and setup

I bought a Wahoo KICKR and couldn't find an adapter for my 9 Spd Campy Veloce so decided to upgrade to 11 Spd Ultegra. I'm so impressed with the quality and functionality of the Ultegra 8000 series components! Install was easy although the instructions that come in the box are not very helpful - highly recommend a YouTube video (or two) to guide you through install and adjustment. Shimano designed this front derailleur for what I think is a clever and simple install that, once adjusted, should require little extra adjustment over time. Excellent Derailleur

The derailleur didn't come with installation instructions. To install this derailleur you will need to find a YouTube video or you will need to download the Dealer's Manual online. There is a QR Code with the derailleur, but this doesn't lead you to the Dealer's Manual. I am a very experienced bike mechanic and I found the installation complicated. You have to use the included plastic guide to determine the the cable anchor. Once installed the derailleur works flawlessly. It is an excellent product.

FD-R8000 an excellent piece of kit

Very nice easy action compared to the 6800 series. Shift is accurate, seldom misses, especially nice when shifting up to the big ring. Can be a bit of a BOTHER to set up so follow Shimano's instructions carefully. It seems susceptible to changes in cable length until everything is bedded in properly. Be very careful not to over-torque the cable anchor bolt. The metal used for the shifter body seems softer than the bolt, the threads are fine and will strip easily.Despite a couple of niggles noted above, in my opinion the FD-R8000 performs very well and for riders coming from the FD6800 series is especially worth the upgrade.

Good product. Bad planning on my part.

Since I am new to bike repair, I didn't know just how interrelated the components are on each product line. I originally needed to order parts for my 6700 series Ultegra-built bike. Since all that was available for my bike was for 11 speed rear derailleurs,, I made the bad assumption that the front derailleur would be compatible. I have since found out that I need to very carefully evaluate compatibility of each component that I order. JensonUSA has been very good to work with throughout my experience in figuring this all out.

Great piece

Upgraded from 105, can't say I see much of a difference. It is lighter, but not sure it's any better.My derailleur arrived with a dent in the shifting channel, and with a patch of shine that was wore down before I even assembled. That's why only 4 out of 5. Otherwise, great piece

Major Improvement from 6800

Great improvement over the 6800. I tried using the Shimano Dealer Manual, but found it confusing. Watched a youtube video on installation and that made it easy. Setup is straightforward and the cable tension markers make setting cable tension brilliantly simple. The setscrew used to stabilize the derailleur works really well and improves performance. Cable routing is really slick. Great design Shimano! And outstanding pricing Jenson!

Not as simple as some

This is an excellent FD. That said, the setup was different to traditional FDs. I had to follow the instructions by shimano and not use my knowledge from previous FDs. The set up process did result in a working derailleur which required no tweaking at all. Overall, even though it is a bit more complicated to setup, it works very well and is reasonably priced. I can't say anything about how well it works with bar end/friction shifters or how it will hold up over use.

Works great and looks good!

The FD was very easy to install. Did some research, the 8000 FD doesn't have that little tool needed to adjust the cable. The cable comes up and around the FD and works pretty slick! This is my first complete bike build and everything went together very smooth! Been out riding for one hundred miles so far. It all works together seamlessly. This is exactly what I expected and I am glad to say there weren't any problems. I did refer to the Dealers Manual, available online, to get enough info to make all the needed adjustments. I would definitely recommend that everyone refers to the Dealers Manual. This FD does not install like the 6800! It's easier, but different.It functions smooth and precise.I would recommend this in a heart beat!
