I'm no professional angler or anything but I've got some nice reels in my collection. The Ultegra stacks up really well against anything. Just as smooth as my Vanfords. Showed the guys at my local Tackleworld (as they hadn't seen the Ultegra yet) and they were all frothing over it. If I needed any more reels... I'd probably just go straight for the Ultegra.

Good reel for the money.I put it on a 10.5 ' medium action rod for surf fishing in Monterey Bay , CA. and it casts a mile. The reel is very smooth. I would suggest using backing on both the spools as it holds an incredible amount of 30 lb. braid.The drag is very smooth and adjustable.A couple of things that is troublesome is the bail does not lock open sometimes making it necessary to rotate the spool for it to lock in a casting position . Also the bail is hard to close by cranking the handle making it easier to manually close the bail.Overall ,weighing the good points over the bad, for the money, it's a good reel. :)

Love this reel. Likely will get another in a different size. But wish spare spools were available so I can switch lines easily without having to carry additional rods (I fish mostly by walking streambanks or lake shorelines and not convenient to carry multiple rods).

Great little reel, honestly prefer it to my Vanford. Will buy another one when the price drops to about $180 again. It's basically the old Stradic CI4 with some of the new Shimano tech
Purchased this to use with light gear chasing trout, reddies, bream and flathead. Reel is great at casting lighter 8pound line and is extremely smooth on retrieval.Highly recommend
Having seen the features on this reel, I decided to buy it instead of the Stradic. I was not disappointed. I used it along with my Sustain fishing for bluefish and Spanish mackerel. Unsurprisingly, the Sustain was smoother, but only barely. The Ultegra acquitted itself quite nicely with it's speedy retrieve and the drag was very smooth when I unexpectedly hooked and landed a larger than expected bluefish. At only have the price of the Sustain, I would definitely pick the Ultegra over the Stradic again. If my ownership of previous Shimano products are any indication, durability will not be an issue.
Great service from Duo Hook. The reel is nice, compact and smooth. The only negative is for the price of the reel I would have liked a reverse switch on it. But it is nice. But I will order from Duo Hook again
Bought this having not a lot of information in regards to reviews available. In terms of specs, Shimano have allowed a lot of features to trickle down from higher end reels. Bang for buck this reel is up there. Easily comparable to a CI4+ Stradic, although they are intended for different types of fishing, the Stradic before being phased out was a much more expensive reel.So far been an amazing reel, pulled in a few decent catches so far. Look after it and it will no doubt serve anyone well for many years. The 10 year warranty says it all.
A good quality spinning reel for the money . Only four ball bearing but still turns smoothly as a seven bearing Stradic , C14 or Ci4+ . Not to heavy and not to lite . 5.7 oz. Nice weight for a 5'-6" rod . Little to lite for 6' rod in my opinion. Rod is nose heavy but still manageable . Cast great on both size rods . I have mine on a Shimano trout one NS fishing rod from Japan 6' rod two piece . Great trout rod and reel combo .
Picked this up on special, and it's everything the stradic is without the price tag. Great reel, paired with a 7'6 3-5kg rod - it's smooth light and strong. Have tangled with salmon, bream, pinkies, squid and flatties with no issue, and confident to handle anything bigger too. It's been perfect for throwing soft plastics, or bait, all day.
