Shimano XT Rear Derailleur 10-Speed RD-M786 GS Shadow+ Black
Shimano XT M786 Shadow+ 10 Speed Rear Mech Shimano’s new Direct Mount Rear Derailleur system gives more space around the rear frame dropout resulting in easier rear wheel removal but also allows frame designers to shorten chain stays, increase axel sizes and move suspension pivots. Direct Mount gives a simpler, cleaner look. Deore XT Shadow Dyna-Sys 10-speed rear derailleur delivers reliable and precise shifting with a stiff and lightweight open design. Shadow features a super low profile design that reduces the risk of damage from trail side hazards. Shadow Plus uses a chain stabilising switch that when on will reduce chain bounce in rough terrain maintaining more stable drive and shifting. This can be switched off to remove the wheel Direct cable routing prevents snagging from any trail side hazards. All-alloy construction leads to lower weight without compromising strength and durability. Four fluorine-coated link pin bushings make this one of the slickest shifting derailleurs on the trails. High rigidity wide outer link braces the pulley body to increase pivot joint rigidity resulting in a crisp shift. Strong return spring for a positive shifting feel. Durable sealed bearing pulleys.

I purchased an XT RD-786 rear derailleur to replace a Deore derailleur that was bent in a crash. After determining that the derailleur hanger was not the issue, I searched for a new rear derailleur. Not only was it a "plug-n-play" fix, it came with a great price and quickly shipped. I was able to upgrade to XT for the competitors price of Deore. And the performance over the Deore derailleur was significant. My bike is now better than new.

I have been a mountain biker for 15 years and used shimano rear deraileurs all of this time. This deraileur really sets the standard for serious mountain bikers who have a budget. Unfortunately, when they made shadow deraileurs they made the piece that screws into the frame/deraileur hanger very thin. I bent mine when a stick snagged it and the deraileur is now useless. I do not think this would have happened with the old non-shadow deraileurs that I do not think are available anymore. Ironic that the purpose of the shadow deraileurs was to prevent the deraileur from snagging on rocks and other hazards but seems to be weaker and therefore more likely to break instead of less likely to break. I replaced it with an identical deraileur because it is still the best ... MoreI have been a mountain biker for 15 years and used shimano rear deraileurs all of this time. After 7 years of service the original rear mech reared up & snapped off the arm. The inside of these is tacky Al whereas the outside arm is sturdy steel...no logic there...Anyway instead of lasting forever, it had a bit of inbuilt obsolescence as you would expect. The new one, above, is exactly the same model & appearance & is working great on a goat hanger direct mounted ; operating an 11 to 50t cassette from a 32t chainring

Downgraded from a 2014XTR w/o clutch after a branch jammed it. Wouldn't call it an actual downgrade though. Really, apart from weight, there's little functional differences between the line from Deore to Xtr today.Chose Xt over Xtr due to price. Xtr is nearly double for an ounce in savings, different clutch. Chose over SLX for no good reason other than I didn't want to go lower but really its just as good but with some steel and more difficult clutch adjust both insignificant. In actual use, the differences were immediate. Shift action is heavier with less "feel" at my Xtr shifters. However, the consistency and reliability is unbeatable. I shift care free in any situation, regardless of how bumpy and it goes where its supposed to. Before, I would occasionally get ... MoreDowngraded from a 2014XTR w/o clutch after a branch jammed it. I shift care free in any situation, regardless of how bumpy and it goes where its supposed to. Before, I would occasionally get chain stuck or throw the chain but the clutch eliminates all this plus makes for a quieter ride.Haven't had a single misshift since. If you are not building a super bike, it's hard to justify even the Xt over SLX or Deore. All shift great and derailleur are the worst area to spend extra for weight savings but I am extremely happy with this purchase.
Bolted right up and was adjustable enough to run a 42 tooth rear gear thanks to an adjustment screw. It was a 9 to 10 speed conversion. I don't think you can go bigger than 42 though. Got about 50 miles on it now and it works better every time I ride. Jenson was great working with me when I ordered the short cage by accident.
Works great. Nice clean shifts. No issues at all. Shimano makes nice stuff. Especially for what I paid for this. It replaced and 8 year old XTR derailleur and it works just as good or better. Very easy to setup.
I had to replace my rear derailleur on my 2014 Trek Remedy 9 29er due to getting a stick stuck it in which bent it all up in a mess. I had no issues with finding the right part online and making my order. My item came very fast in the mail and I had it in no time. I was able to install it on my bike with just a little hesitation in getting the high and low alignment correct and the spacing with the biggest cog. No issues so far and thanks to Jenson USA I am back on my bike and having fun!
I chose this derailleur to accommodate a larger 10sp cassette on my mountain bike as part of a 1x10 conversion from 3x10, orignally XT with STX shifters. It was easy to set up once I realized it's limit was a 42 tooth cassette. My mistake as I'm running a 46 largest cog and just needed to install a longer b-screw to make it work. So far, so good. It shifts well and I'm happy.
This mountain ten speed, clutched rear derailleur works very well on my Spesh Rockhopper. The price I paid at Jenson USA for a new RD-M786 was less than I've seen some used ones go for on other sites. Incredible value! Used with an XTR shifter, every shift up and down the cassette is smooth and quick. Running a 2x10 set up so dropping the chain isn't an issue anyway, but chain slap has been eliminated. The clutch is easily engaged and disengaged. While it was set correctly for my riding style right out of the box, I anticipate any future readjustment to the clutch mechanism to be a straight forward affair. I've already had the cover off to check out the clutch system, and the online service instructions from the Shimano technical documents website are clear and ... I purchased this to replace my DEORE XT RD-M781 SGS.I'm using this M786 SG on a 1500W 52V mid drive FS(200/190mm) eBike, 52T chainring, 10 Speed cassette.I put 3500km on my M781 SGS derailleur in 1 summer and had no problems with it.I have an adjustment issue with the M786 SG, mainly gear jumping.I have by recommendation kept the clutch engaged full time as my eBike has 190mm travel n the rear. This length of rear suspension travel, the clutch or is it the shorter cage is possibly the reason I have some gear jumping issues?!I didn't experience gear jumping with the M781 SGS long cage on the eBike. No Cage Lock function for quick rim removal/replacement as the SRAM GX 2.1I possibly will go back to the M781 SGS long cage if this setup continues to give me ...
