I bought the adult ones about a year ago because my previous ones were worn down and super old. I thought Shockdoctor being a supposedly reputable brand, that their gum shields would do a good job. I was very wrong and ended up wasting my money because obviously these can't be returned or exchanged. These being the ones that mold to your teeth as well no just the gumline, you essentially only get 1 go at molding them. After following the instructions I put them In my mouth, I noticed immediately that they were too small and just wouldn't yield even for an adult version. They were then obviously stuck in that position because the teeth mold would be unlikely to move again in a well enough manner so I up them straight into the bin. Bad news again for different reasons. Waste of money twice.

Chemical taste and smell

Right from the box, this smelled of chemicals. Thoroughly washed it, followed instructions and my son nearly threw up when molding it. It smells strongly of detergent and smells like how it tastes. I'm out $18 dollars since I boiled and trimmed this. I'm really disappointed with Shock Doctor with this one.

I purchased this mouthguard for my 8 year old son yesterday and it doesn’t fit at all. It’s way too small and very clunky. My son has a small mouth, so with the age specifications this should have fit but it doesn’t. Now I have wasted money and have to find a new mouth guard. I recommended reaching out to your child’s dentist for recommendations, I should have done that in the first place.

Horrible sizing and bad customer service
7 December 2023

I went into the store in Buford, Ga and worked with the sales associate to find the best mouthguard for my small 8 year old. He recommended this product to us. The packaging says 10 and under. We boiled the mouthguard and followed the instructions perfectly. This thing is tiny. It would fit a 4 year old but no child with 6 year molars could fit it. I assumed it would expand when it boiled but it didn’t. Nowhere on the packaging does it tell you how to check fil before boiling it. I called the store explained the situation that they helped me pick it out, the packaging says 10 and under and it doesn’t fit. I asked for an exchange to try and adult size and they said they couldn’t because it had been boiled already. I’m waiting for my refund.
29 August 2024

I already sent off both boxes to WM. One for beauty products and the other for 2 sports mouthpieces which upon examination were completely wrong and wrong size. WM picked up the box with 2 wrong mouthpieces on 8/28. We would just like a simple refund. That’s it. Nothing more. Been having some problems with WM products lately. First nasty oxidized face soap and now this.

Terrible mouth guard
31 March 2023

I bought the is mouthguard for my son. We read the instructions that said to boil water and fit the mouth guard as per usual with these types of items. We took the mouth guard out at the designated time allotted in the instructions, and the gel had completely disintegrated. I called the location I bought it at and was told I shouldn’t have boiled it, but I let them know I followed the instructions. I was told that I was SOL.I think the moral of the story is that as parents we want to buy our kids the best of the best, but this has been over engineered and ended up being a terrible product. The best mouth guard is the good old fashioned plastic mouth guard without gel.

Very Difficult to Shape Correctly
19 April 2024

These were a bit pricey but we thought they’d be better quality. We bought 3 and carefully followed the instructions. Only 1 turned out right. 2 were completely botched. We had to throw them away. We later purchased a much cheaper brand and it worked so much better. Wishing we’d just started with the cheaper ones in the first place.

less than 5 star reviews are wrong
22 March 2024

I'm here to offset the 4 and under reviews. I had two of these. my first one fit wrong because I messed it up. it was uncomfortable and fell apart. I did the next one properly and have used it for kickboxing for 10 years now. my teeth are still beautiful. less than 5 stars = user error.

ok for some, don't recommend for boxing etc

I got the orange one, the mouthguard is fairly easy to get a tight fit with, although i took a few attempts. I recommended watching a video on youtube for how to fit a boil and bite mouthguard tightly. I was able to get it tight enough that it's difficult to remove with just my tongue. The mouthguard goes decently far back, but not too far (doesn't get as far as my wisdom teeth), so it's a comfortable length.Problems: the front of the gumshield has a hard plastic part which covers part of the front. This part had a sharp ledge (where the hard plastic ends) which I had to cut with scissors to smooth out a bit and then it was comfortable to wear. However, it still digs into your mouth if you press your mouth against that plastic part or if you get punched in that ... MoreI got the orange one, the mouthguard is fairly easy to get a tight fit with, although i took a few attempts. After adjusting with scissors it's ok for BJJ, if you want to do cardio in a gumshield and probably for something like field hockey or rugby but not for getting hit repeatedly. It's probably fine if you're wearing a boxing headguard.
