I’ve also had the UC version “1”. Left side vs Right side mic boom - didn’t make a difference. But the mute button is a huge improvement, especially how it works with Teams. I had a recent Teams call where I had to take call and used the OpenComm 2s from Uber ride to airport - despite the driver leaving the car stereo relatively loud playing Rihanna and some Eminem, my coworker who also rode in car was texting others on call and no one could hear any background noise. Same results in airport. This is performance I’ve seen with my Bose 710s and my Jabra Evolve 2 75s. But without the over the ear issues. Excellent mic pickup and ability to separate from external. Not everything is perfect. With PC, sometimes starts out maxed out on volume and you need to tweak both application and system volumes to not have it create “bone rattling” volumes. But I imagine that can be addressed with firmware update. Also, while mic boom arm up doesn’t officially mute, it does heavily limit pickup and I often inadvertently start calls with mic up - perhaps some minor indicator when speaking and boom arm up. Not sure if the bone conduction technology could pick up an indication that you’re speaking and provide a small beep / notice if boom arm isn’t down?Overall, feel these are excellent - for calls and videocomms and podcasts. they feel very comfortable on head. Music… eh. But that wasn’t use case - other headsets will fill that need.

I’ve tried several “good” headsets, and while I like my fancy Jabra headphones and earbuds, I found them uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. I’d been really enjoying the bone conduction technology in my Shokz OpenRun headphones, so I was excited to give the OpenComm 2 a try for work. They did not disappoint. I can hear clients very clearly, without any of the volume issues I had with my Jabra headphones, or connection and mic issues I had with the earbuds. The mic is just as great, and my voice comes through loud and clear. It filters out background noise beautifully. The headphones are incredibly light and comfortable to wear, just like the OpenRun. Yes, they CAN be worn with glasses on; I find that they tuck nicely right behind the ear, and sort of “hug” the arms of my frames. The battery life on these is also better than my earbuds. My ONLY complaint with them (and this appears to possibly be a laptop connection issue?) is that I get a horrible static sound when I get a notification from Teams, or listen to a voicemail on Windows Media Player. I don’t know why this is, or if others have experienced it, but it’s a grating noise that sounds like a speaker that’s been blown out because the volume was cranked to max, and I’ll hear the static cutting in and out throughout the messages, making them difficult to hear clearly. It scared me at first, as I thought I had somehow broken my new headphones. But phone calls ring clearly, and everything else sounds great. Shrug. It’s only the notifications and voicemails where there’s that noise. I feel that I do have to remove a star for that, but these are still my favorite headphones I’ve ever owned, despite that issue, and I would still highly recommend them. They are that good.

And have a normal conversation with someone in the room. A+++++ The only inherent downside to the open is that there is no ANC… but that’s not why you get one of these.Differences between 1 and 2… here are the things they “fixed” with the 2.1) the multi pairing is now perfect. When the 1 was paired with a phone and the dongle and you moved out of range with the dongle the headset would give you a continuous beep and irritate you to no end. I’ve called Shokz about that “bug” (in my opinion)… and acknowledged it and said the work around was to turn the headset off and on to cancel the beeping. That’s a horrible answer….The 2 is perfect. If you move out of range from the dongle you get a soft voice telling you the computer is disconnected and you go about your life… when you come back into range it reconnects - simple and well done (golf clap).2) The boom on the 2 is on the right side of your face. The 1 is on the left (or wrong side :-) )… never got used the the boom on the left… thank you for putting it on the right.3) there is a mute button on the boom of the 2 … THANK YOU THANK YOU… all is well….4) the dongle on the 2 is smaller than the 1. Not a big deal. The 1 has a pairing button.. the 2 doesn't need it. The manual says there’s a little button on the side - but you shouldn’t need to find or use it. One minor complaint Shokz… I don’t know why you changed the dongle storage in the travel case from a nice molded socket in the middle to the lame clear plastic tag one the cover…. But it’s going to rip off… it’s in the way… it’s annoying and shame on you… who ever came up with that one shouldn’t get to make storage decisions anymore.Overall… I’m very happy…Now for my 2.5 complaints:1) There seems to be a dramatic difference in the voice quality for the other party from Bluetooth on a phone vs. the dongle on a computer. I’ve done multiple tests and while using the dongle is an A+ experience for others on a call…. Just using this headset via Bluetooth on an iPhone is significantly inferior to the voice quality of Air Pods or a Plantronics Voyager Pro (best in class for the microphone IMHO). Not sure why…So this is my go to video call / computer based conversation headset (zoom / teams / etc…)… but not my all day phone conversation headset. Even though it’s fantastic for me…. I also worry about the listening party.2) I wish the back band that connects the left and right ear was either softer or adjustable… My head is on the larger side… (if anyone can recommend the perfect hat - send me a message)… and the Opencomm fits well… but it’s also big… if you sit back and try to lean back on a chair… you hit the headset well before you can rest your neck… it’s minor… and I know the whole line uses the same rubber (or whatever it is)… but it could be more comfortable. And for the .5) if you turn the volume up too much your face gets a little vibration… not really a big deal and to expected with bone conducting… so that’s why it’s a .5 and really more of a comment than a gripe. One last thing if Shokz is reading this…. If you’re using a dongle… why not find a way to use DECT or something with longer range like the Plantronics CS line ??? It would be awesome to walk around an office with thing and not be locked into the Bluetooth range limit…The end

Finally a good headset with really good selective noise cancelation on the mic
11 June 2023

I have purchased and tried dozens of headsets, Bluetooth glasses, and earbuds over the years, and none has consistently captured my challenging voice without excessive background noise. The Savin 8210 does pretty well but still chops portions of my speech. The earlier version of the Aftershokz OpenComm headset never did well at picking up my voice and not background noise, and had an issue with regular dropouts in picking up voice. Adding a windsock helped with the original OpenComm, yet I still found it difficult to hear the other party on calls and walkie communications in noisy environments. The new Shokz OpenComm 2 UC dramatically outperforms every other Bluetooth, DECT, and wired device I have tried. Adding a windsock helped with the original OpenComm, yet I still found it difficult to hear the other party on calls and walkie communications in noisy environments. The new Shokz OpenComm 2 UC dramatically outperforms every other Bluetooth, DECT, and wired device I have tried. I added a windsock on the mic, as I learned with the first version. When the background noise gets extremely loud, I hear fine when covering one ear. I work in an extremely busy and challenging noise environment where I must take calls on multiple devices and constantly interact with others in front of me.I am using the OpenComm 2 with my work and personal mobile phones (Zebra Android device and recent iPhone). I use a Savin 8210 DECT headset on one ear for my work desk phone (Cisco) and my desk computer (Linux) at same time as using the OpenComm 2 for my two portable phones. If you want to be a fashion plate, this is not the solution, but it is the best I have found for communication over devices and in person. The only problems I have seen so far with the OpenComm 2 are dropped connections with the iPhone a few times per day before it reconnects within seconds, my inability to find out how to do the software updates that are mentioned in the Headset Advisor video review, and developing a sore on one ear from the vibration (stronger with the 2nd version than the original). I figure that my ear will grow some thick skin to lessen that irritation, and I so appreciate the other values of the headset that I will live with that issue.I have been searching for a headset that works this well for about 2 decades, and I strongly recommend it.When I am out walking by a busy street, I use my AirPods Pro in concert with the OpenComm 2 for the active noise canceling of the AirPods so I can hear content from my phone and carry on phone conversations without an issue of loud noises causing missed words on either end. My expensive AirPods Pro have been turned into expensive earplugs as I can hear much better and at significantly lower volume levels with the OpenComm 2. I have Jabra, Sennheiser, MPow, and many other brands of headsets and earbuds that are now simply collecting dust because the OpenComm 2 headset is much better than all I have tried. I still use the Savin 8210 since I need to be connected to more than 2 devices at a time. I still wear my Echo Frames as I need them for sight, and they are helpful input devices with a touchpad on the frames. I would love to see the OpenComm 2 integrated with eyeglass frames to reduce the number of devices that I wear and need to charge.

Great for small heads and voice comms.

Having come from the Shokz openmove headset (which I absolutely love) I assumed the opencomm2 would have the same fit to my largish brain box. The build quality and battery life are excellent, and the headset delivers exactly what's promised on the box. However, the change to the over-ear type design when compared to the openmove doesn't fit well with my ears and head. While the headset is absurdly light, this difference in shape isn't comfortable for me for longer periods (over 1 hour) and I find myself adjusting them constantly to alleviate discomfort behind my ears.Furthermore, I was disappointed to find that, despite a dedicated usb receiver, this headset only uses bluetooth and subsequently when using the mic, the speaker audio quality switches to 1980's ... MoreHaving come from the Shokz openmove headset (which I absolutely love) I assumed the opencomm2 would have the same fit to my largish brain box. However, the change to the over-ear type design when compared to the openmove doesn't fit well with my ears and head. While the headset is absurdly light, this difference in shape isn't comfortable for me for longer periods (over 1 hour) and I find myself adjusting them constantly to alleviate discomfort behind my ears.Furthermore, I was disappointed to find that, despite a dedicated usb receiver, this headset only uses bluetooth and subsequently when using the mic, the speaker audio quality switches to 1980's telephone and of course, mono. I have a weird use case where I need a headset for comms for a work from home roll, but also enjoy social time and casual gaming with friends in the evenings while still needing to hear what's going on around me (Kids, wife, etc). As most "gaming" headsets do their best to isolate your ears for the best audio experience, this leads to either some unnecessary yelling if someone is trying to get my attention, or to me hanging the headphones on one ear for a less than ideal experience.TL:DR If you have a small head and don't care about audio quality when using the mic, this is a great headset with great battery life and functionality. For those with larger heads/ears, or those who wish to use the mic as well as have high quality audio, I'd say give these a miss. For me, the search continues.

Overall this bone conduction technology is cool. It works great for voice and music is passable. For long days on zoom or teams it’s nice to have a headset in your rotation that doesn’t cover up or go in your ears. The microphone does a good job of cancelling out noise in the environment. The Bluetooth connection gets a little staticky at times from what some folks tell me (who hear static in my voice occasionally) but that’s Bluetooth for ya. I’ve purchased a few of these for members of my team who travel a lot and these have worked well in airports and in the car. The first time you put these on the bone conduction sensation will feel different, at high volume the vibrations may tickle your ear. These a great. I love my pair.Lastly, buy from headset advisor. I’m not paid by them but I’ve purchased many headsets and not all have been perfect. Their team wants you to be happy with the purchase and get the most out of it. They’ve also helped me select various headsets for different needs. Many headset sellers push product and then you can’t get an answer or help. Not the case here and their prices are usually the best or on par with other online dealers which I can imagine is an endless war. They also really know the headsets and the staff have extensive experience with everything they sell and if they don’t have firsthand experience they find a colleague who does to assist.

Loving the Mic Mute Button!
7 July 2023

I had the original OpenComm UC without the mute button in the Mic and loved them. I mentioned to several people including Shokz Feedback Team that if they made it with a dedicated mute button, I would buy it without hesitation. When I saw that Shokz came out with OpenComm 2 UC (OC 2) with a mute button in the Mic, I ordered it immediately. When I first got the OC2 I went through all the features. The headset is a great improvement over the original OC. The sound is better and from my testing, the Mic also seems to have better sound isolation. The mute button on the Mic is the biggest improvement. It now means I can feel comfortable walking away from my computer while on a Zoom since I can mute and unmute remotely. The headset is a great improvement over the original OC. The sound is better and from my testing, the Mic also seems to have better sound isolation. The mute button on the Mic is the biggest improvement. It now means I can feel comfortable walking away from my computer while on a Zoom since I can mute and unmute remotely. I'm able to go downstairs and still clearly communicate, so about 25 feet through a couple walls and a floor. I was happy to see that the Bluetooth adapter changes colors to let you know when you are unmuted (Green) or muted (Red) while on a conference call. It also give you a voice confirmation of the same so you know if your muted while away from your computer. Just like the original Shokz OC, the OC2 are very comfortable to wear all day.I did have some minor software issues which are detailed below:-Solved: Zoom and the OC2 mute synchronization was not working when I first got the OC2 headset. When pressing the mute button on the OC2 Mic, the Zoom mute did not activate as it should. After reporting to Shokz, they informed me Zoom was already working on it and should be fixed in an update. The next day I received a Zoom update which fixed the issue. So if you have this issue, make sure you are on the latest Zoom client.-Unsolved: Shokz Connect App is used to upgrade the firmware of the Headset and Bluetooth adapter. Both devices are not detected through this app. Since they don't have a new firmware available yet, this is a minor issue right now. Shokz Support is still investigating.-Solved: I tried to upgrade the Shokz Connect App with the hopes it might fixe the above connection issue, however the upgrade button was pointing to a dead link. Shokz Support fixed the issue with the link, however it did not fix the connection issue as I hoped. The remaining software issue is not a deal breaker for me as long as they eventually fix it. I highly recommend this headset to anyone who is looking for an open-ear headset with great features and support.

Not there yet better luck in V3

I love the form factor which is the only reason this is my 3rd Opencomm UC. I was hoping the v2 would solve some of the issues. Two things are perfect. The new mute button on the boom and that the mute beep when activating with the headset is gone. Being teams aware is a nice plus as well so it toggles the mute onscreen. Now the things that they completely miss at this price point. This is not a cheap headset and at $200 some of the issues that it has are unforgivable. Voice sync when watching streams is off. Watching youtube there is a delay in the speech so their lips move out of sync with the audio. Haven't we fixed this issue yet? $20 bluetooth headphones don't suffer from this anymore.Call quality isn't there. I get complaints that I'm dropping out and people aren't catching everything I'm saying. Systems sound are painfully loud so much so you don't want to use the mute or volume up or down because it really hurts with no option to change the volume of system sounds. No matter how low you have the volume system sounds are still painful and don't change in volume. All of this can be fixed with firmware updates but so far I have not seen any way to update or customize these headphones.

Phenomenal for all walks of life!
5 May 2023

This is my first bone conduction headset, and it's been perfect. As a trucker I spend a TON of time on the phone while driving! However, I'm pretty hard at hearing nowadays, and constantly having to remove my noise canceling earbud just to have a conversation in person at stops was getting old. I took a look at headsets that were over ear but I knew that would be even worse! That's when I saw headsetadvisors' most recent review of this headset, and figured I'd give it a shot. The clarity is amazing! The microphone blocks put a lot of the external sounds on my end, and I don't know if it's intentional but the speakers seem to prioritize my callers voice and that's it. Stuff or people in the background of their mic seem like they're hardly there! You can handle feel any weight from the headset, but you'll always know it's on your head. It's also rather funny when it rubs against my hoodie and the sound amplifies lol.The headsets not without it's cons though. Sharp, high pitched noises externally from the other end of a phone come through REALLY sharp and painful since it bypasses your ear canal. One of my trucker friends is a delivery driver and the ringing of a bell from people entering the gas station he was delivering too was killing me. Another thing that was bothering me was that there didn't seem to be a takeover function. On some other Bluetooth headsets I've had, when I receive a call it'll default to Android Auto or a the Bluetooth Radio in the truck, but all I have to do is push the answer call button to swap it over to the headset. With this one it'll just hang up. Now, alls not bad with that, in Bluetooth settings I can set the headset just to calls and the truck radio to audio and that fixes it. I've yet to find a fix for android auto, and doing the aforementioned fix breaks hearing google assistant through the headset. Those are not so serious issues, and I still definitely recommend this headset ESPECIALLY if you intend to use indoors with a computer. Truckers, it's super dope for us as well, and the fact that it doesn't stop me from hearing the whole world is even better.

Was hopping for a simless switching between PC and IPhone
9 August 2023

Upon purchasing this headset, I was quite excited by the prospect of effortlessly switching between my PC and iPhone. The promise of such seamless integration was a significant factor in my decision to invest in this particular model.Unfortunately, the reality didn’t quite match my expectations. In practice, I found that in order to switch the headset's connectivity between devices, I had to manually disconnect it from one before it could be connected to the other. This process, although simple, can become quite tedious, especially if you’re someone who regularly toggles between devices. On the positive side, when connected, the audio quality is crisp and the fit is comfortable, so it does have its merits. But if you’re seeking the convenience of a true multi-device seamless experience, you might want to look elsewhere.
