Great mic for those who want a podcast and don't want to deal with an audio mixer to make things sound good. The hybrid option to go XLR or USB gives you the option to use a mixer, if you wish, so you're not really losing anything. The include Motiv software more than makes up for any EQ situations you might run into sans mixer. White some may like the switch settings and yoke-mounted XLR plug on the SM-7B, you will find these abilities tucked away in the Motiv software to program the mic via USB, so you really don't lose out on much of anything. It's even a more compact design than the SM-7B, allowing a better fit for those with smaller studio space. The sound quality is nearly identical, but you'll find the MV-7 having a slightly different element. Otherwise, it's ... What you lack in switches you'll make up for on the LED ring surrounding the mic head. That built in VU meter really makes things nice.

Honestly I've seen plenty of people that have used this mic online and I've heard nothing but good things. When I got it for myself, I found the exact same results. However, I will admit that the boom arm that it comes with is incredible weak. It doesn't move very easily and the mic itself is too heavy to be supported efficiently. But overall, especially considering the value of the package deal, I still think it's worth it. If it's that big of a deal to you, I would recommend getting a different stand (though for me it's still good enough that I haven't done so). The mic itself is still fantastic though and that fact doesn't change. #sweepstakes

I had been looking at updating my mic setup for working from home for a while, so I can sound more professionally produced while leading meetings. I'm blown away by how amazing this sounds for a USB microphone. Out of the box it sounds fantastic, but you can also tweak more with the app, including fully customizing the LED strip which is fun for personalization. It's also functional, showing the sound level its picking up and acts as a one-touch mute button.Visually, the boom arm and overall design of the mic are gorgeous on my desk and look professional, without being overbearing like some higher-end setups can be.The tradeoff between simplicity and quality really can't be beat here.

So, I purchased the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone Kit with Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Boom Arm (Black) and I must say I don't have any regrets. Off the top, there is one thing that I wish were different, but nonetheless, these products are pretty amazing.Firstly, the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone is remarkably impressive in the construction, sound quality, and remarkable depth of controls that you have via the Shure Desktop Motiv app or the on-mic controls. This brings me to the thing that wished were different. The connectivity of the app. Shure does provide access to both a desktop and a smartphone app (that you will have to download) but the microphone can only be connected to the devices using wires. The connectivity of the app. Shure does provide access to both a desktop and a smartphone app (that you will have to download) but the microphone can only be connected to the devices using wires. It would be more convenient if they were able to connect wirelessly (via WiFi or/and Bluetooth). Once connected to your device the mic can be used or it can also be used by connecting to an audio device using an XLR cord. (regular microphone cable). The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphoneis an incredible option for content creators without the needed accessories like cloud lifter and the likes, which other microphones in that category demands. This saves you money, time (as it is faster and easier to set up), and it is more compact and less of a distraction while in use.Lastly, the Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Boom Arm is smooth, modern, and extremely pleasant to look upon. The Boom Arm is impressively designed and helps tremendously with cable management. The cable fits snuggly in the arm. The boom arm is not bulky and is built very sturdily. Once, the microphone is mounted, it is very easy to adjust the boom arm for perfect positioning.I LOVE THIS!!!
Firstly, for people that want a quality sounding mic with slightly bigger (but still reasonable) budget and lack fancy audio knowledge, this mic takes the cake. I was first intrigued by the well known Shure SM7B mic about a year ago for the great sound but didn't want to drop $1000+ since you need Cloudlifter, mixer, cables, and preamps, etc.Thankfully, Shure answered my questions with the release of this mic and I gave it a shot. The quality isn't quite as good as the SM7V but it's close and for non-audio pros like me, can't tell a hard difference unless they're side by side (even then I struggle to pick up the difference). I've now had this mic for 4 months as I'm writing this review. The product itself is clearly high quality. It's a dense and heavy mic with metal body and frame. I will agree the pop filter leaves something to be desired but that's not a big deal to me since that's a cheaper upgrade easily done after the fact. Mind, I came from a gamer Astro A50 headset so this was a huge leap in quality improvement. I gladly ditched it and hope to never look back. Likely, won't look at another mic for a while either because this one is so awesome. The software is super easy. Very few choices and very clear options. Youtube people reviewing this mic and you will see what I'm talking about. There's no 50 sliders to mess with to get the right balance. Another win in my book. I just wanted a good mic but had budget to go beyond the standard cult classic Yeti. Here's where I took a star off. Bear in mind, I would give the mic six stars if I could. The Blue boom arm is a quality built arm but the tension is a hot mess. I had to look up multiple Youtube videos for help on this and play with positioning on my desk in order to get it to place the mic where I wanted. I played with the tension screw inside the base and twisted the joint fasteners to the tightest I could in order to get it to a semi-acceptable spot.I read the manual and did all the research I could to work with the boom. If I would make the purchase again, I would skip the boom arm and go with another one. There are plenty others that look just as good and likely will not give the same issues. For $100 boom arm, it should be able to do the basic things like hold your said item where you want without the frustration of battling the tension. The boom looks great and it feels of quality construction which is important but they should really take this boom back to the drawing table and fix this one mechanical issue that seems like a common discussion for anyone that has purchased this item.My own personal fix for the boom as literally fold the thing in half while I was at work for the day in order to try to pretty much break the tension myself. Then I tightened the nobs to the tightest settings to hold it where I wanted it. If I move it slightly for adjustment, it will not take it and spring back. This boom arm is clearly made for a heavier mic than this one and even then I wonder if it would work as intended.
Overall, I like this mic. The audio quality is good but the windscreen isn't great at eliminating plosives. I'm primarily using it with an XLR cable into a Zoom Podtrak P8. Having a USB connection is a nice feature if I ever need to use it but at this point, it's probably very unlikely. After seeing several Youtube reviews, I agree about the issue with plosives. If you're really close to the mic, there's no way around it. If you step back an inch or two, it's less noticeable. I am getting a windscreen for an SM7B as reviewers say that will help reduce plosives.Overall the quality is really good and it looks great but a better quality windscreen would have brought this to 5 stars. The Boom arm is really nice. The boom arm gets 5 stars.
I bought this microphone as it has a dual USB and XLR output. I want to record to PC and Xbox simultaneously so this seemed ideal however as soon as I connect the USB input ALL of the ground noise is passed directly to the XLR output. I've done absolutely everything possible to rectify this (USB noise eliminator / USB ground eliminator / XLR ground lift / expensive power supplies / expensive inline preamp etc etc) nothing will work short of trying a different phase of electricity. It comes down to poor product design at the end of the day.Sound quality isn't as good as suggested, if you're expecting this to compare with the SM7B you will be sorely disappointed. Popping P's all over the place too.The motiv app is a great gimmick but not that great, sound quality is ... MoreI bought this microphone as it has a dual USB and XLR output. There's better USB mics for less money, there's better XLR mics for less money, this product can not do both at the same time which kind of makes it pointless.Sending this Mic back and will probably have to settle with a 2 Mic setup for now.
I have the original MV7 and some competing microphones like the PodMic USB. I can say that some things are a definite improvement over the original MV7, including the improved pop filter which now actually does something, the USB-C connection, and several improvements with the DSP features. The real time denoiser is effective but does leave artifacts when background noise is moderate. The tone shape curve works well, and HPF is now separate which is nice. The compressor controls are hidden if you use auto-gain, which I'm not a fan of. The software is not fully baked yet - you can control all the DSP in the MV7+ in the desktop motiv mix app but several other settings are locked (it's still in beta at the time of writing). The sound of the mic over USB is a little different than the sound over XLR, but both outputs still work at the same time. They got rid of the physical controls on the mic for gain and headphone volume - the light bar is now just a capacitive mute button. The mute function works well, but I wish they kept some physical controls for gain and volume as well. Overall it's a fine USB/XLR mic but with the increased price, in 2024 it's no longer the defacto must have for home podcasters and content creators like the original was back when it was released. Other options like the PodMic USB are more affordable and sound just as good, so unless this is absolutely perfect for your use case, there may be a better and more affordable option.
Having used the Shure MV88 for many years, I'm already accustomed to the versatility of Shure's microphone line. The MV88 has served me well on many occasions when I wasn't expecting to record anything. Sure enough, I had the MV88 ready to go in my pocket and got excellent on-the-go sound. So I should have been ready for the MV7, but the quality still caught me off guard. Plus, even without a microphone stand, the handling noise was non-existent. The option to use the desktop Motiv app only adds to the appeal, having used the iPhone Motiv app and found it an amazing on-the-go tool. I expect nothing different from Shure's desktop version. And that's all digital, without the XLR cable! Rest assured, connecting the MV7 to my recorder via XLR cable only increased my control and confidence that this microphone is an excellent studio alternative at an affordable price.
