Audio Professor and I recommend this microphone

The Shure MV7 and the Shure SM7B are top of the line industry microphones. I teach podcasting / audio production, and there's a reason these microphones are prioritized in the industry. They have a nice frequency range, low noise floor optimized for dialogue, and rich fidelity that gives you professional sound. There's little EQ manipulation necessary from your DAW in post, as the signal sounds great out of the box. The MV7 in particular, is a hybrid analog/digital dynamic mic and will work with your XLR mixer/interface or plug directly in via USB. I tell my students, using this mic is almost like cheating, with very little work required in controlling your capture conditions and recording environment. Fantastic quality for any professional or home setup.

Its a great product for many reasons, but I would say usability is the most profound. It comes with both a mini-usb and XLR connection, so whether you just want to plug it into your computer for Zoom or hook it up to a studio camera or recording system, the MV7 makes it easy. Not to mention that I directly ordered from Shures website which included a great price, great package option, and fast shipping. Overall, we are extremely satisfied with our MV7. As I mentioned before, we never assumed something better quality was needed, but after hearing the first test file from this microphone, I felt like I just went from a Honda Civic to a Mercedes. Awesome product & awesome company! Thank you for the opportunity to enter into the #sweepstakes as well!

The touch control was another part that so good to use. The touch sensor is pretty good (I think the best one is iPhone so if iPhone touch sensor is 10, this mic is 7.5). The last but not the least, the setup. It's so easy. It's getting the power source from the connection (I used USB-C on my MacBook Pro). All cables are included which is another bonus for me. So all you gotta do is plug in. PS. Those of you who are going to use tripod at your home, recommend to get thread adapter that sells in B&H unless you get your own mic stand. I bought Auray TT-6220 Telescoping Tabletop Microphone Stand (Black) here. But when I wanted to use on my small tripod, I needed it. Hope this review helps you to make purchasing decision. Thank you.

Excellent All-Around Microphone for Podcasting/Livestreaming
10 August 2022

I've been working with the Shure SM7b for years upon years for voiceover work, podcasts, and the occasional livestream. It sounds great (as we all know), but it requires at least 60db of clean gain from a really solid preamp, which is a pain when doing a mobile recording. Well, here comes a cheaper, better-performing alternative from Shure. The MV7! While not as wonderful-sounding as the SM7b, it still sounds amazing, it's not nearly as gain-hungry, and it even has a USB interface built-in for when you need to record something quickly or even if you need a really good mic for a livestream or Zoom meeting. Additionally, this kit comes with a really nice, lightweight Manfrotto collapsible stand, which is fantastic for a really light mobile kit. It doesn't offer the sound isolation from the tabletop that another mount might, but it's great for a portable recording kit and performs admirably. I can't say enough about this mic. It's not a replacement for the SM7b, but it's a solid cheaper alternative for other usecases. While I'll stick with the SM7b for my studio work, I now have 4 MV7's in a mobile kit for when portability supersedes sound by a little bit.

Great Mic and ALMOST Perfect
21 January 2022

I want to start off by saying that I actually returned this mic for the SM7B and I'll tell you why. I am venturing into audiobook narration and professional VO. This mic would be great for streamers and podcasters. Before I tell you why I returned it, let me tell you what I love about this mic. Pros: Amazing sound quality for a microphone at this price point. The USB features are amazing and very easy to use. The build quality is top notch and the compact footprint means it doesn't overwhelm the desk. Cons: To me there was only one con, and that is prevalent in the SM7B as well, it's a quiet microphone. What I mean by this is you have to turn the gain up almost all the way. This isn't really an issue if you always have the mic close to your face, if you're a ... MoreI want to start off by saying that I actually returned this mic for the SM7B and I'll tell you why. What I mean by this is you have to turn the gain up almost all the way. This isn't really an issue if you always have the mic close to your face, if you're a streamer, or getting into podcasting. This is easily fixed with a Cloudlifter, but this means you have to plug in via XLR. If you plan on using this mic for professional level voice recording, having the gain up that high can present some problems depending on your interface. This by any means isn't a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of. Comparison: Okay, the MV7 vs the SM7B. I tested out the MV7 via USB and loved how easy it was to use. I plugged it into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 with a Cloudlifter and was extremely impressed. There are many different comparisons between the MV7 and SM7B, and the differences are negligible. The only difference that you can hear from the SM7B is a SLIGHTLY richer bass and warmth to the voice. That's it. If you're trying to decide between these two mics and price is an issue (you will need to spend a few hundred more dollars to get an interface for the SM7B), or you're a streamer or podcaster, get the MV7, you won't be disappointed. The USB features are fantastic. I chose the SM7B because I already have the extra audio equipment to use an XLR cable with my computer, and for audiobooks the richer bass seemed worth it to me. #sweepstakes

I love it!!!

So, I purchased the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone Kit with Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Boom Arm (Black) and I must say I don't have any regrets. Off the top, there is one thing that I wish were different, but nonetheless, these products are pretty amazing. Firstly, the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone is remarkably impressive in the construction, sound quality, and remarkable depth of controls that you have via the Shure Desktop Motiv app or the on-mic controls. This brings me to the thing that wished were different. The connectivity of the app. Shure does provide access to both a desktop and a smartphone app (that you will have to download) but the microphone can only be connected to the devices using wires. It would be more convenient if they were able to connect wirelessly (via WiFi or/and Bluetooth). Once connected to your device the mic can be used or it can also be used by connecting to an audio device using an XLR cord. (regular microphone cable). The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone is an incredible option for content creators without the needed accessories like cloud lifter and the likes, which other microphones in that category demands. This saves you money, time (as it is faster and easier to set up), and it is more compact and less of a distraction while in use. Lastly, the Blue Compass Premium Tube-Style Boom Arm is smooth, modern, and extremely pleasant to look upon. The Boom Arm is impressively designed and helps tremendously with cable management. The cable fits snuggly in the arm. The boom arm is not bulky and is built very sturdily. Once, the microphone is mounted, it is very easy to adjust the boom arm for perfect positioning. I LOVE THIS!!!

I use this mic daily
15 December 2022

I have another review that I wrote about this mic, but B&H's website doesn't appear to let me update that review. I've now been using this mic almost daily for over a year. The audio is crisp and clear, background noise is kept to a minimum, and people on the other end of the meeting/phone call give compliments on the detail that this mic captures. I used to use a condenser mic, but that also had the annoying feature of picking up a lot of 60Hz hum. This mic doesn't do that and I didn't have to make any adjustments to the room either. For the person who mentioned they couldn't fit it in a shockmount, it has one internally. That is why the mic is the size that it is. For those complaining about the USB port, mine hasn't had any issues. For the person who mentioned they couldn't fit it in a shockmount, it has one internally. That is why the mic is the size that it is. For those complaining about the USB port, mine hasn't had any issues. I accidentally bent the micro usb connector on the cheap cable they shipped with it and the mic survived just fine. The cable, on the other hand, was useless after that. I solved this problem by finding a 90 degree USB adapter so that the connector isn't pointing straight out the back of the mic. It now sits mostly flush and swiveling the mic is more likely to cause the adapter to disconnect at the other end. If your laptop, like mine, is usb-c only, don't try to buy long usb-c to usb-c cables. They are crazy expensive. Instead, try to buy a usb-c to mini or micro usb-b cable. They are much cheaper. My setup is usb-c to micro usb (10 feet), then an adapter from micro-usb to usb-c (1 inch), and then finally a short usb-c to 90 degree micro-usb adapter (6 inches).

Firstly, for people that want a quality sounding mic with slightly bigger (but still reasonable) budget and lack fancy audio knowledge, this mic takes the cake. I was first intrigued by the well known Shure SM7B mic about a year ago for the great sound but didn't want to drop $1000+ since you need Cloudlifter, mixer, cables, and preamps, etc. Thankfully, Shure answered my questions with the release of this mic and I gave it a shot. The quality isn't quite as good as the SM7V but it's close and for non-audio pros like me, can't tell a hard difference unless they're side by side (even then I struggle to pick up the difference). I've now had this mic for 4 months as I'm writing this review. The product itself is clearly high quality. I've now had this mic for 4 months as I'm writing this review. The product itself is clearly high quality. It's a dense and heavy mic with metal body and frame. I will agree the pop filter leaves something to be desired but that's not a big deal to me since that's a cheaper upgrade easily done after the fact. Mind, I came from a gamer Astro A50 headset so this was a huge leap in quality improvement. I gladly ditched it and hope to never look back. Likely, won't look at another mic for a while either because this one is so awesome. The software is super easy. Very few choices and very clear options. Youtube people reviewing this mic and you will see what I'm talking about. There's no 50 sliders to mess with to get the right balance. Another win in my book. I just wanted a good mic but had budget to go beyond the standard cult classic Yeti. Here's where I took a star off. Bear in mind, I would give the mic six stars if I could. The Blue boom arm is a quality built arm but the tension is a hot mess. I had to look up multiple Youtube videos for help on this and play with positioning on my desk in order to get it to place the mic where I wanted. I played with the tension screw inside the base and twisted the joint fasteners to the tightest I could in order to get it to a semi-acceptable spot. I read the manual and did all the research I could to work with the boom. If I would make the purchase again, I would skip the boom arm and go with another one. There are plenty others that look just as good and likely will not give the same issues. For $100 boom arm, it should be able to do the basic things like hold your said item where you want without the frustration of battling the tension. The boom looks great and it feels of quality construction which is important but they should really take this boom back to the drawing table and fix this one mechanical issue that seems like a common discussion for anyone that has purchased this item. My own personal fix for the boom as literally fold the thing in half while I was at work for the day in order to try to pretty much break the tension myself. Then I tightened the nobs to the tightest settings to hold it where I wanted it. If I move it slightly for adjustment, it will not take it and spring back. This boom arm is clearly made for a heavier mic than this one and even then I wonder if it would work as intended.

So good it's hard to find fault with this mic!

I got a MV7 with the mini tripod and couldn't be happier! It sounds great. That little stand is sturdy, lightweight, easy to position, and I'm fairly certain it's made by Manfrotto. The mic itself comes with a micro USB connector as well as an XLR. As a recording engineer, I appreciate the inclusion of an XLR. I could see myself using this to record a podcast, or even a vocal. It should stack up pretty well to the original SM7B, at least in theory. I use it for Zoom and Teams meetings, and for that it's excellent. The MOTIV app works really well, and is updated regularly - at least monthly. The fact that you can set gain and see the input levels right on the mic is super helpful. I might've preferred a more positive click on the mute button, but I mostly use the ... MoreI got a MV7 with the mini tripod and couldn't be happier! It sounds great. I might've preferred a more positive click on the mute button, but I mostly use the conferencing app's mute instead. As much as I like the little tripod, it actually is too low for me. I have a long torso and switched to a low & heavy-base mic stand intended for kick drum or double bass on my desk. Then I can boom the mic in, keeping it just below my mouth yet out of the camera shot. The yoke mount on the MV7 makes it easy to position. Besides some tiny niggles, I think this mic is fantastic. It sounds good, looks good, and is easy to use. Way to go, Shure!

My experience with the MV7 microphone. The Web site was easy and informative on the product. Also the closer on why I felt I needed this microphone was in the new work environment I found my most of my workday in meetings online and in presentations online, using a host of applications. In addition I do a regular series of industry updates on trends of the market which are recorded and good microphone and voice clarity is key. But one thing I must share is how easy it was to get everything working perfectly. In all of my calls and sessions it was not an issue of a repeat of what I was saying and it some cases they would ask what am I using as a microphone and I would tell them the MV7! One big Kudos to the Shure company was the Elton John story on Metallica and seeing the product in use in the video and Sir Elton who is know for a master of sound telling his story of what he loved of the band and their music. It only helped to note this is a product of the pros and I felt that this must be the right choice to buy and guess what it "Shure" was......
