Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary Lens For Sony E-Mount

It's not just a great option, it's an outstanding lens. Very sharp wide open, great for astrophotography, beautiful colors (coatings), compact, metal built, aperture ring, its a gem of a lens. Only negative is the distortion, but it's a 20mm,juat crop a little, small adjustments in post will do the trick. Very happy with it. Sigma 20mm 1.4 is gen 2 is coming out soon for almost twice the price, twice the weight, more lens elements, not sure for my needs I can justify the price difference. I can't stress enough how good it feels to have such a good performance out of such a compact lens, the sigma 20mm f2 comes highly recommended.

This F2 Sigma is a great combination of speed, light weight and size. Lens is sharp even at F2. Normally shoot in aperture mode and just love the aperture ring; would love to see more lenses with this feature.

I bought this lens after being quite disappointed with the softness and size of the Sony GM 14mm f1.8 lens (which I returned). The Sigma 20mm f1.8 was a bit of a gamble - less wide than I wanted for astro. BUT - in the weeks I have had it it has become the lens that stays on my R3. I have shot well over a thousand frames with it and am delighted. I can report that the 20mm f1.8 is super sharp in center from wide open and sharp across the frame at f4. Autofocus works perfectly and fast. Lens is small and light enough to be carried around. No funky lens hood or filters to worry about. Groups, landscapes, macro, astro - it does it all!. I have nine Sony mount lenses from the Sigma 20 to the Sony GM100-400. This 20 is what I use now for 90% of my shooting.
