A less expensive third party lens that gives great results

It can be a lottery buying third party lenses; you never know if it's going to be fully compatible with your camera until you try it. This lens works perfectly well with my EOS6D, and gives great results for 1/3 the price of Canon's product. Sigma's "Art" series lenses are well made and sturdy. This one comes with a lens hood, a practice Canon would do well to emulate. Image quality is great. Auto focus is fast and accurate, although when wide open the depth of field can be razor thin. I've achieved some great results photographing stage plays in dim, variable light. I'm very pleased with this lens.

I don't always take the time to write reviews, but when I do its for a really good reason. Either because I absolutely hate something or I'm so amazed I feel like everyone needs to know. The sigma 35mm f/1.4 is without a doubt a fantastic lens. I recently dove headfirst into the photography and videography world and purchased a number of lenses. This lens was no accident, as I chose it based on a number of highly positive reviews. After receiving it and trying it out? The best description someone like me can say is that there is just something great about the appearance of my photos taken with this versus my other lenses. Something pops. Apart from the fabulous bokeh, it's super sharp (in a good way), and the pictures it takes are just stunning. The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E delivers exceptional sharpness, beautiful bokeh, and excellent low-light performance, making it ideal for portraits and events. The fast autofocus pairs perfectly with Sony’s eye-AF, ensuring reliable focus in both stills and video. Its solid build and weather sealing add to its professional feel. However, it suffers from noticeable chromatic aberrations at wide apertures, especially in high-contrast scenes. Despite this flaw, it remains a versatile, high-performing lens worth considering for any photographer.

Great Lens Got my Son a Job
6 January 2023

My son is the photographer but he was told this is the best lens to get hands down for the particular night club and individual people. Not too long after getting the lens he ended up with the job there. His other lens was a real wide aperture I believe this is a wide aperture but just perfect for taking photos of people in a dark atmosphere. This is actually his second lens from them that he uses with his Cannon Mark 6 I believe base. We’ll all I know is he didn’t get the no. Until he got this lens then they gave it to him once they saw the difference in that environment that his photos looked liked. The right equipment goes a long way.

Great optical and build quality

I was looking for a 35mmf1.4, already owning Sony 20mmf1.8, Sony 24mmf1.4 GM, Samyang 50mmf.1.4 version II, Sigma 85mmf1.4 DN Art for my A7R4. All those lenses are excellent, including the Samyang (although it's eye AF in low light is not as strong as others). Most reviews say Sony 35mmf1.4 GM is better optically than the Sigma, especially regarding longitudinal chromatic aberration. So I bought a used (Condition 10 good as new) Sony 35mm from BHphoto. I was disappointed with its sharpness at f1.4 even with good AF in daylight. So I returned it and bought this Sigma. The Sigma definitely sharp wide open and eye AF is quick and accurate. Hit and miss

I picked this up for a trip to Chile, specifically for working in darker, poorly lit conditions. Before leaving I took a bunch of test shots and noticed it has some serious front-focus issues on my Nikon D850. I ended up making micro adjustments using the AF Fine Tune options on the camera which corrected much of the problems but it still fell short of my NIKKOR lenses. Most shots looked great but after cropping and zooming, were soft, slightly blurred, or inconsistent when compared to my Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR used on the same subjects, light conditions and f-stops.On my travels to Chile, I had a chance to take a few shots with Miss Chile (completely unexpected). The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 performed admirably, in sun and shade, indoors and outdoors, focus was quick and all shots looked great on the camera. However, on my large monitor at home, its focal inconsistencies became apparent. The sharpness presented with the 24-70mm f/2.8E was missing in many shots taken with the sigma. Uncropped, it all looked great, but zoomed in it fell short. Great for mementos, not so much for publishing. If I had more time, I would have tried adjusting the AF Fine Tune further but I just needed it to work. It may be an issue with this specific lens or an issue between the lens and body. Either way, it fell short for my needs.

I expected so much but got even more! It is a total game-changer for me

In short: phenomenal, dependable lens, incredible monochrome images, and stellar low-light performance. I am using with with M50 mark II and 5D classic. On both bodies it focuses very fast and precisely. This is my first "serious" lens, so far I have used the nifty fifty, the Ef-M 22mm, the EF 28mm F1.8 USM, and an array of manual vintage lenses (Helios, Super Takumar, etc). I expected so much from this lens to step up from the nifty fifty and EF-M, and the lens gave even more!! On paper there is not much difference between the F1.8 of the EF 28mm and F1.4 of the SIgma. However, in practice the Sigma is vastly better in low light! For videos, wIth the EF-M 22mm lens I am using 800ISO, with the EF 28mm F1.8 an ISO of 250, and the Sigma ISO 100!!!!! With this lens I feel there is no need to upgrade from the M50 to the R series, as at ISO100 is has super picture, the problems start when you go past ISO200. Then, the image gradually falls apart. On the M50 with the adapter this lens is an absolute monster. However, I am using the Viltrox adapter and that has a foot mount, and attach the mount plate there. Like that, it is stable enough that I can keep it on my shelf and it's nice and balanced, and I shoot my videos like that. So, weight is not an issue. When taking handheld shots, itfeels really lens-heavy, so I need to hold the lens and not the camera to feel comfortable. So, for practical reasons, it might be too heavy for a super compact mirrorless, but if you want low light capability, and to STEP UP image quality for the M series - this will totally change your world. I was set to change to the R or RP, and then after I started using this lens, I feel absolutely no need to change body! On the 5D DSLR it feels incredibly well balanced, like they were designed for each other. What a joy to shoot with it! And the photos are all fantastic, even wide open it is very sharp, and the focus is very very good. I never used high end cameras, but this lens focuses just infinitely better than the nifty fifty or the EF 28mm USM. So, if you have an 5D or an M50 and you feel you have outgrown them, or are struggling with sharpness, ISO noise or focus issues, then give this lens a try before you decide to change camera bodies. One more thing to share about the weight: The heavy weight of the lens helps a LOT to stabilize the camera! My issue with the M50 was that it is so light, and when I add more weight it makes it much easier to take clear shots. Although the 5D classic is much heavier, but the shutter makes a very strong vibration, so the extra weight is very muchuseful there as well. So, if you are ok with weight and size, then this is a true dream lens.

Pretty good lens
11 June 2024

All the reviews I read on these sigma art lenses are pretty much accurate. This 35mm is very sharp even in low light, I was able to take clear shots at dusk outdoors. And the color this lens produces is really good even in low light, works really well with my nikon 850. The only thing i wish this lens had is VR, but the lens is so sharp in low light, the lack of VR isn't much of an issue. Weather sealing would be very good too as I plan to use it mostly for street photography. In spite of lacking VR and weathersealing, I'm still glad I purchases this lens. The color and sharpness will make this fun to use.
