SkinCeuticals Retinol 0.5 Night Cream 30ml

I've used just about every top of the line 1% and this is definitely in my top three. The other two being Shani Darden Retinol Reform 1% and Drunk Elephant 1% which all three products perform as they should. All three are also around the same price range. The Skinceuticals and SD are both $88 for 1oz. And the DE is $74 for 1oz. The skinceuticals is definitely the strongest retinol IMO so your skin should really be acclimated to retinol before using the 1%. Skinceuticals also offers a .05% that they recommend to ppl who are just starting to use retinol. This retinol has never dissapointed me. The frown line between my eyebrows decreased by 85% using this nightly and it is now literally just a small wrinkle and not a crease anymore. Three of the four products did not have an expiry date and caused severe damage to my skin. Even though the products are marketed as suitable for sensitive skin , these caused severe rash and damaged my skin barrier. I'm not confident to say I love this product, because I haven't seen the end result yet, but I will be patient lol. I have been using retinol for 3 years, on and off since its so expensive to keep up with the price, and the annoying side effects. But this time I will try to use it consistently. I started with .25, .5 and this is a 1% retinol, so it's very strong. My skin is still peeling as of today, but no longer have burning sensation. If you are a first time user, you should read the instruction carefully, and have a good moisturizer to use with. Good luck on your anti aging skincare journey.

Caused bad breakouts for 6 months

I started with 0.5% retinol and began to breakout, peel etc but didn't think there was an issue since I had read about the 'retinol uglies'. After 2 months I was concerned about the amount of time and reached out to skinceuticals, they said that the purge period can vary based on skin type and not to stop using it. The breakouts continued and only got worse, after about 6 months I was using tiny amounts 1/week and my skin was the worst it's ever looked. I had big inflamed breakouts on the sides of my face where I hadn't experienced breakouts like that, and on my chin. I finally stopped using it and the inflamation went down, I switched to 0.3% and haven't had problems since. I wish I had started with 0.3 and that I had gotten that guidance earlier! Effective retinol for a beginner

I am very new to retinol (I’m 30) and I wanted to give it a go after reading a lot about it. I started with a VERY mild retinol, and after I ran out, I bought the 0.5 retinol from skinceuticals. I was surprised how big the tube is and how much they give you! A great amount. I started using it 1x per week for 3 weeks, and I am now at 3x per week. I will continue building up my tolerance slowly. I did not experience retinol purging (yet), it feels excellent on my skin, very moisturizing and soothing. The tube is an aluminum-type material. If you squeeze it one way, the pressure will build and it can slowly continue to ooze out. But if you compress it the other way you squeezed (from the sides) this will stop the product from oozing out by relieving pressure. It’s really not as big a deal as some reviews have made it out to be.Overall, great product and I will continue to use it or I will eventually buy the level up with continued use.

Magic in a tube

I love this strength of retinol. I have tried the 1.0 but went back to the 0.5. I just like this one better. I did not have much peeling but I definitely got some acne around week 3 but I know it's because it is working and doing what it should. It lifts your face, making it look brighter and more youthful. I don't think I will ever stop using it. After a week of using it, my husband said to me, "Your skin is actually glowing". Nice compliment. Highly recommend. I also use CF Ferulic faithfully in the mornings.

Powerful product

I love this retinol. I love that it's pure retinol, rather than a tiny amount of retinol mixed into a long list of other ingredients and the .5% allows you to prep your skin before moving up to1%. You can feel it working! This potent product comes in an easy-to-use tube. It costs more than some other retinol products, but unlike the face creams and oils I've tried, you only need a small amount. So one tube will last months, which makes it cost effective. I haven't been using it for too long, but can already see results. Can't wait to see what my skin looks like in 6 months!

Reduces pore size!

I'm on my second tube of this and absolutely love it and won't ever be without it! My skin is incredibly smooth after application, and I can feel and see the difference when I wake up in the morning. My pore size has significantly reduced, which was the main reason I initially tried a retinol cream. A little goes a long way, and a little tip about the metal-type tube; squeeze from the bottom and gently flatten it against the counter as you use it. I didn't pay attention with the first tube and ended up with some waste, but this time I'm getting every last drop! Be sure to ease your way into a pure retinol and start with the .25% first, especially if you have sensitive skin. Now that I've been with it a while, I use it 3-4 nights a week.

good retinol

I'm in my mid 30s and have pretty sensitive skin. I started slow with cerave's resurfacing lotion for a year and transitioned to Skinceutical's 0.5. If I had not done this, I would have started with the lower precent. It still took a couple of weeks of using this every 2-3 nights until I felt comfortable using this most nights of the week. Love the results and the light texture. I'm very cautious of mixing too many actives in one night. I do feel my face has a better glow! A friend asked if I'm secretly doing botox (haven't tried it yet) - I attribute that compliment to this retinol!
