The Star Adventurer GTi is amazing. It's very easy to setup and take it out, easy to use the app to control the polar scope illumination and polar align, easy to star align, then when you want to find your target for the night the GoTo feature does that for you! I've found the GoTo works reasonably well and I love that it's a feature that solves the classic but how do I find x object in the sky? problem. Overall it's a great product and I would recommend this for anyone looking into getting a travel friendly GoTo tracking mount.

I am really disappointed to find that I can't get an optics train that weighs less than 10 pounds to balance properly on the Star Adventurer GTI. There just isn't enough mass in the provided 5lb counterweight to get the job done. This product is marketed as having an optional second 5lb counterweight but I've just had Sky Watcher support blithely confirm that this is not yet available. They made mention of having success with their 7.5 lb counterweight (though there is no other indication anywhere I can find that it is compatible) but that is out of stock everywhere. So here I sit with an expensive (to me) new rig that can't be balanced. Very disappointing.

The Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi is the perfect portable GOTO mount. I have used the Star Adventurer 2i for several years and knew the GTI would be a good step up in my astrophotography.I have large telescopes and mounts but not anything I would consider for travel. The GTi being portable, having goto and paired with a good workflow software (I use APT) makes the setup quick and with plate solving the imaging session starts quickly. Also having goto allows for longer focal length lens/telescopes without a lot of manual hunting/framing as I had to with non-goto trackers. The GTi runs on both 8 AA batteries or a 12VDC external power supply. I use Apertura’s portable telescope power supply-155Wh and it runs for hours without any issues. With today’s technology, the use of hand controllers are really more optional than required to operate the mount.Having a built in lit polar alignment scope is a huge help and makes polar alignment quick and easy. The gotos are accurate and tracking is spot on with good polar alignment. Having the ability to guide makes it even more impressive. In summary, I am thoroughly enjoying this mount and highly recommend it for travelers using DSLR/mirrorless cameras with just lenses or small telescopes (under 11 pounds/5 Kilograms) to capture the night sky.

I recently bought the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi Mount. I have only had one opportunity to try it out, but I am extremely happy with it so far. The polar alignment took me less than 5 minutes. The virtual slew controls in the app were the best I have seen. Three or four taps in each direction, and I had Polaris right where it was supposed to be. I did a 1-star alignment with Vega and then went to several objects and the positioning was accurate. I am really looking forward to getting out for an evening of astrophotography!
I have not used this mount yet partly because the instructions are terrible. They lack detail and contain no pictures. You would think the marketing team would fix this if they intend to service beginning astrophotographers. Also the documentation for the SynScan app is lacking. I can’t determine if guiding is supported or now to properly connect accessories. Second my buddy bought one of these and it does after one session so I am wary of the quality. Lastly I have heard rumors of backlash issues. Sure enough the one I have seems to have it although I haven’t evaluated for impact on tracking. If there is an impact I would rate this mount a 2 or 3 star. In short, suspect quality and lack of documentation offsets the benefit of a more portable rig.
Star Adventurer GTi Tracking Accuracy 10 Minute Subs!Well, I just received my new Star Adventurer GTi mount from High Point a few days ago (5-21-24) as a replacement to my iOptron SkyGuider Pro. Arrived quicker than expected. Main reason is the GOTO capability of the Star Adventurer GTi and tracks in both RA and DEC and can be controlled via smartphone or tablet, so should be more precise in tracking, less hassle, and I have no intention to use guiding, etc.I spent a day with the Star Adventurer GTi set up in my family room to get familiar with it, as I primarily have iOptron mounts. I was hoping that the Star Adventurer GTi would be a good, light, and easy to set up and control mount for DSLR cameras and lenses up to about 600mm and also a ZWO 2600MC Pro cooled ... MoreStar Adventurer GTi Tracking Accuracy 10 Minute Subs!Well, I just received my new Star Adventurer GTi mount from High Point a few days ago (5-21-24) as a replacement to my iOptron SkyGuider Pro. I was hoping that the Star Adventurer GTi would be a good, light, and easy to set up and control mount for DSLR cameras and lenses up to about 600mm and also a ZWO 2600MC Pro cooled color camera with a RedCat51 and up to 80mm refractors maybe. But, mostly for DSLR use with prime lenses.Set up is easy enough, although different than my iOptrons. For large scopes doing deep sky I use my iOptron CEM40EC mount that is extraordinary for its tracking precision without any guiding at all - because of the precision encoders. The SynScan app works well, for what it is. I was able to easily connect with SkySafari 6 Pro, although it was definitely “flakey” at best. I hope Sky Watcher helps with that issue as using SkySafari is way better way to go - SkySafari works flawlessly with the iOptron mounts.Since it was full moon, but very clear I decided to do a tracking test on Arcturus. Again, set up was easy. I do use a digital surface level for far better leveling accuracy than any bubble level. I used an actual compass with correct magnetic declination to point the mount toward Polaris, and set altitude for my location.I used a Nikon D750 and Nikon 300mm f4.5 lens for the tests. I was hoping to get perfect round stars with exposures of up to about 2-3 minutes with the Star Adventurer GTi mount.Polar alignment was easy and was very accurate, although what they call an illumined reticle is not a typical illuminated reticle. The Star Adventurer GTi illuminated reticle is more of a light that shines on the clock map instead of a normal illuminated where the lines, circles, etc are what are actually illuminated. However, it does work just fine.I next did a “1 Star” alignment and selected Arcturus from the list. The Star Adventurer GTi slewed (this mount is very loud compared to the iOptron mounts). The mount arrived at what should be in the neighborhood of Arcturus. Surprisingly - Arcturus was in FOV with a 300mm lens! I was surprised for sure.I centered Arcturus using SynScan app controls and confirmed alignment. Now for the fun part of the test. For the test I decided to start with 10 second exposure, then go all the way up to 10 minutes. I thought 10 minutes should show some long star trails and would be interesting. These are the exposures used: 10 sec, 20 esc, 30 sec, 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, 4 min, 5 min, 6 min, 7 min, 8 min, 9 min, and 10 min.I used a Velo intervalometer for accurate exposure times. Now here is the strange part of the test results - this Star Adventurer GTi mount tracked better than almost any other mount I’ve ever used other than my iOptron CEM40EC (a $4000 mount!). Stars were totally round in the 10 minute exposures! I could not believe it! (I have been an avid/obsessed amateur astronut for over 40 years, and have owned way too many mounts and scopes. In fact I have an entire room in my house dedicated to just mounts, scopes, and associated astronomy equipment. My wife says I am possessed and obsessed. She is correct.)I have included all the shots and the meta data confirming exposure times, etc. I also included zoomed in insert of Arcturus for exposures of 5 min to 10 minutes. I was shocked at how well and accurate tracking is with this Star Adventurer GTi mount.Maybe I got leveling and polar alignment dead on and alignment was perfect too - maybe. Don’t know for sure, but I can say this Star Adventurer GTi mount is absolutely amazing./Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/10 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/10 SECONDS_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/20 SECONDS_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/30 SECONDS_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/1 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/2 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/3 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/4 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/5 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/6 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/7 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/8 MINUTE_SM.jpg/Users/balosurf/Desktop/SKY ADVENTURER TIME TEST 052224/9 MINUTE_SM.jpg
Very easy to use. Polar alignment was a breeze with built in light. Goto is an awesome feature. They now provide two weights (1.5 lbs and 3.5lbs)instead only one 5.5lbs. This allows those of us using cameras the ability to balance the load with the smaller weight and not having to purchase a smaller counter weight. The cover for the polar telescope could be improved as it is easy to knock off and tabs could easily break. I did find that I had to get an app to keep my android phone to stay awake as suggested method in instructions did not work when using synscan app to control my camera.
Sky-Watcher has done a wonderful job with the Star Adventurer GTI. Just don't put a RASA 8 inch on it haha! With its 11 pound payload think along the lines of a RedCat 51.I'm old and weak but with a 40 pound rated carbon fiber tripod, the GTI, a RedCat, an ASIAIR Plus, a ZWO EAF, I can still lift the entire setup with one hand! Though Sky-Watcher says not to carry it around all assembled.Less weight means easier setup and more use.I'm an astrophotographer wanna be and the attached shot was my first light with the GTI, the RedCat, and the ASIAIR setup, AND I was shooting on a wooden dock!I also have a Celestron AVX recently gifted to me. I'll grab this GTI any day over the AVX when ease of use and weight are concerned. There are some small nits with the mount. The only one that irritates (so far, I've only had the mount a couple of weeks) is the polar scope cover. Seems like most screw on. The one on the GTI snaps on and has already fallen off three times. In the big scheme it is a small gripe offset by this being a modern mount, and with the ASIAIR Plus I can control the mount directly and not have to go through the hand controller and have those extra cables around like on the AVX mount.Fully recommended. Just remember that in astro kit weight adds up quickly. Also, the GTI's machining allowed excellent tracking.
I recently purchased the SA GTI to use for astrophotography. It easily handles my Canon 400mm f/4 DO II lens with or without the telextenders. This is an equatorial tracking mount that is small enough to carry on trips. I bought Pelican V525 Vault case and everything fits easily in that for checking on a plane. The polar scope is hard for my use with glasses and being slightly red/green color blind but I also got an ASIair Plus to run the mount and that should solve my problem with polar alignment. If you want to get into long exposure astro photography this is a must have piece of gear.
the Star Adventurer GTI is a great product. my first tracked Milky Way image (85mm centered on the Lagoon nebula) was perfect. 30 exposures at 1 minute shutter. no trailing, very sharp stars. i was impressed with the product, the GOTO function, and ease of use.i only have two minor complaints. first, the cover for the polar scope falls off, ALL THE TIME! secondly, the battery cover screw could sure use a retaining washer.however, my complaints are minor, in general the produce is very well made and very accurate. i am very pleased with the product.
