The APO MicroPrime Cine 50mm T2.1 Lens from SLR Magic offers apochromatic capture in a lighter-weight, cine-style form. With a 46mm image circle projection, this wider Canon EF-mount lens is suitable for use with 8K cameras with high-resolution full-frame sensors. Its apochromatic elements are designed to correct color aberrations often seen in high-contrast images or shots captured with wide-open apertures. Cine-style focus and iris gears and an internal focus design enable you to pull focus without the length of the lens changing, suiting this lens for use with rod-mounted accessories and matte boxes. The APO MicroPrime Cine lenses feature 150 Degree of focus rotation, a common 85mm front diameter that eliminates the need for multiple matte box adapter rings, and an internal 82mm filter thread.

A fantastic lens for a low price

This is one of the best lenses I've ever owned at this price point; solid all-metal construction, nicely dampened rings, etched and filled markings, very little breathing, nice edge to edge sharpness, classic but not aggressive flaring, neutral colors, etc. Functionally, this is a great lens for single operators and will probably last for decades if properly cared for. Aesthetically, it produces detailed but not overly sharp images that remind me of much more expensive cinema lenses. IMO, this is a great choice for narrative and cinema style documentary. I'm looking forward to owning the entire set.

These lenses are beyond believable. I bought a 25 and a 50 for my Canon C70. I think they work best when used with the regular adapter than with the .71, but that would definitely be an issue of the Canon adapter and not these lenses. The focused breathing is virtually nonexistent, the colors are accurate and consistent throughout the frame. This is by far the best full-frame cinema lens you'll put your hands on, not only at this price but I believe also at some higher price points. I don't mean to sound cheesy but I simply love the results.

As with my review of their APO Microprime 85mm T2.1, These lenses are incredible for their price and quality. The image is crisp, but not overly sharp, bokeh is beautiful, I love how blues and reds are rendered, good contrast... right kind of character, weight and build I needed with my Komodo. I highly recommend paring these with the Canon x 0.71 focal reducer. I hope Slr Magic continues this line with other focal lengths.

Great lens for narrative work
31 May 2021

This is a beautiful lens. The color is true. It loves skin. Wide-open it blooms, contrast drops, and it looks like you have a Promist filter on. Don't expect anywhere near sharp focus wide open. However, things sharpen up f/2.5-2.8. I bought and 32mm and 50mm, but the 32mm was soft through 3.5 - sent it back. I have yet to receive a replacement. Hopefully, it was a QC problem with that lens. Regarding the 50mm, the box had a crushed corner. So, I sent it back for an exchange.

Green cast fixed. Best budget cine lens set.
19 February 2023

In my opinion, the SLR Magic APO Microprimes are the best budget cine lenses on the market. All of the competitors in this price range - DZO, Meike, Rokinon, Irix, Dulens, etc. - have one or more of these weaknesses: chromatic aberration, lens breathing, color cast, or bokeh that contains "onion skin" or is shaped in a way I don't find appealing. Only the SLR Magic APO lenses performs very well in all of these categories. Extremely limited CA, minor lens breathing, accurate colors with maybe a tinge of warmth, and a clean, beautiful bokeh. I tested an older version of the 25mm and it had a distinct green colorcast compared to its siblings, but this new 25mm that I purchased from B&H in Feb. 2023 has fixed that issue and now matches my 32mm, 50mm and 85mm. Wide open at T2.1 the lenses have the right amount of softness for me, including around the edges, to cut the sharpness of digital sensors. At T2.8 it's a hair less sharp than my Sony GM primes and Fujinon Cabrio but very acceptable - again, especially given how sharp Sony sensors are. The very slight softness and warmth put thelenses in between a vintage feel and modern feel, which I like. The flares are dramatic on these lenses, especially the 25mm, and that leans more toward a vintage feel.

High Quality Product
4 October 2021

I have both the 25mm and 50mm MicroPrime Cine lenses. Both are excellent manual lenses that work flawlessly on my Canon R5 with RF-EF adapter. I do a lot of product photography and video and to dial in focus is exactly what I need. Sure it is not autofocus, and isn't supposed to be, it is for those that want the ability of fine tuning detail and focus. The body is much higher quality metal than the plastic of the more expensive RF lenses. It is similar to zeiss lenses if you are familiar with those. I always color correct in post but the colors produced from the lenses seem consistent for my uses. The sharpness cannot be matched when combining these lenses with a 45mp sensor for photos and 8k video.I have spent thousands in lenses in the past, but these are ... MoreI have both the 25mm and 50mm MicroPrime Cine lenses. Image Shift while Focusing
13 December 2020

Just got a new set of these lenses, as I shot a pilot on the APO Hyperprimes. Wanted to get the big boys but SLR Magic discontinued the 25mm in that set so I opted for these. I wanted to love these, but there is considerable image shift while focusing near infinity. Also very noticeable in the 85mm. Going to exchange them for new ones and hoping these were just two defects as opposed to their overall build. Will update after swapping.

Loving It So Far
22 April 2022

With an a background using photo lenses, this piece of glass is heavy, at 2 lbs, great for smoothing out those micro-jitters on my Pocket 6K and 4K. I used this on a talking head video a like the results. I look forward to using this lens more to experience the characteristics people crave about. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase so much I'm considering purchasing the 85mm.

Spherical but with Tons of Character; Great Upgrade from Rokinon Cine DS
30 March 2021

Coming from the Rokinon Cine DS series, one of the priorities I was looking for in my next spherical lens was character. I'm not a fan of the "clinical" look. One of the things I liked about the Rokinon's was they have "dirty" bokeh ? a side effect of an inexpensive lens, but the texture is visually pleasing to me. Since the SLR Magic Microprimes and Hyperprimes have a ton of character and really interesting flaring, it was a logical upgrade! I was caught between the Microprimes and Hyperprimes, but since the Hyperprime series discontinued the 25mm, I figured I'd start by trying the 25mm Microprime.First impressions: This lens is HEAVY!! There's a lot of glass packed in there. Much heavier than the Rokinon, and I can feel the difference in weight shooting handheld. It's bigger than it looks in the picture for sure. While the weight of this lens is manageable, I don't think I'd want to have anything heavier for all day handheld shoots. The build quality is exquisite. Nothing feels cheap ? it's all very smooth, and the stops at the end of the focus/iris range feel like they're made of titanium. My only dislike about this lens is the focus and iris rings are a bit tight out of the box. I've heard this is common with brand new SLR Magic primes, and hopefully it loosens up a bit over time. It's not BAD, it's just slightly on the tight side. And again, the rings turn super smoothly. The tightness of the focus rings can make the lens shift in the EF mount on your camera if the tolerances are loose. Especially when you change focus directions rapidly. So be aware of that. Looking forward to buying more of these Microprimes and taking them on my wedding videography shoots.

The lens doesn't match the rest of the APO set!
16 September 2021

I bought the full set of these (25, 32, 50 and 85mm) and I'm disappointed that the 25mm does not match the other lenses. It's much greener than the others. As far as I'm concerned this is the first thing a set of lenses should do. MATCH. It's hard to use the set and then tell a client 'oh that one will have to be graded to match' I have the cheaper SLR Magic emount lenses and these all match so really didn't expect this.
