Purchase for use with a very small Kowa TSN-501 50mm spotting scope. This pan & tilt head is an excellent dollar value when used with small, and Med. small spotting scopes. I have now even purchased two(2) more of these #CH-10 pan and tilt heads. One for another Med.Small spotting scope, and the third one for use with a car window mount, and a Med.Small 62mm spotting scope!Workmanship; fit and finish, and material used is of very high quality..Just an unbelievable low price for such a nice, well made pan and tilt head for use with smaller, and lightweight spotting scopes!

Build quality is good for a light, compact, and cheap fluid head. Initially I was having issues with the fluid head being a bit choppy and grabby when using my Fuji X-T3 and 16-80mm lens. So I troubleshot and whipped out my nodal slide to balance the whole thing. The result was a much smoother and nicer feel to this.I believe this product pairs well with light weight tripods and cameras for hiking/backing.p.s. I wasted money buying the Peak Design universal tripod adapter for this. It mounts nicely with a capture clip. Save yourself the money and go this route instead.

I bought this to use for a spotting scope. I threw a Kirk plate on my new scope and went out. Whoops! Off popped the scope. This clamp is not tall enough to take many plates. Peak Design plates also don't fit - you'll need something that comes to an edge for it to fit here. The plate it comes with holds well, but unfortunately has rubber pads which add instability in the wind.Otherwise, it's about what I expected for $50. A bit stiff, with pretty bad backlash, but it's smooth. If I wanted a tripod to shoot video on a small camera it'd probably be great.

I have used larger fluid heads with bigger cameras a long time ago. However, for photography I had always used simple pan/tilt photo heads or ball heads.I decided to look for fluid heads after getting a mirrorless camera that can also record video. I ordered this one specifically because I wanted to be able to use arca-swiss style baseplates. This also does not break the bank for a fluid head, which is nice. I am very happy with it so far. I use it a lot more on my desk for when I want to have the Nikon Z5 as my webcam.
For its weight and size (and price), this is definitely the best video head I have found. The build quality is excellent! The tilting mechanism is nicely dampened, but the panning mechanism seems to have little to no damping. Panning is about the same as most ball heads I've used. I really like that its made for arca-swiss plates, so I don't have to use an adapter, but keep in mind that the mount clamps side-to-side instead of front-to-back like most arca-swiss mounts. If you have a square plate (like those on the Peak Design or Polar Pro clips) its no issue. The tightening knob can also be a little difficult to rotate with it underneath the camera. The Oben TVH-108 has smoother panning, but its larger, heavier, more expensive, and doesn't use arca-swiss plates. ... MoreFor its weight and size (and price), this is definitely the best video head I have found. Overall, the CH10 is still a great tripod head. I would just like to see an updated version with a mount that clamps front to back and possibly better pan damping.
This is the best thing that has happened to my backcountry hunting kit since silicone impregnated nylon was deployed. This is PERFECT for spotting scopes in a lightweight package that is under $100. It used to be you had to pay around $300 for a solution that this hits out of the park for $50. Not sure how durable it is yet but it is made of aluminum and seems to be a solid piece of equipment.
For such a small compact design, this tripod head is impressive. However, the pan motion on this is very hard to turn. Even with the screw loose, I find myself twisting my tripod head off the tripod legs rather than the pan axis when turning the tripod. I'm keeping for now until I find a better alternative. Maybe mine is just faulty.
When SmallRig says "compact" - they mean it! Sturdy, well-built video head for most mirrorless/DSLR rigs. I shoot a Sony A7III with extended battery grip, and I wouldn't recommend going any larger. Tilt and pan are super smooth. I would highly recommend if your looking for a weight/functionality compromise on a monopod or small tripod.
There isn't really anything in this price point that compares. It's compact, light, and the pan/tilt is pretty dang smooth. The weird orientation of the arca plate is confusing to me but I added a small arca clamp in my desired orientation and it's been fine. There are definitely better heads out there for more money but for the price you can't really go wrong.
Considering how compact this is, it works amazingly well. If you don't want to travel with a giant fluid-head, and you use Arca style plates, I would recommend this. If you're a dedicated video professional, you probably don't use Arca anyway, but you might want a head with springs that return to level. This is more of a smooth-motion head, rather than one with counterbalance force.
