This saw was light and comfortable in the hand with a great sawing blade, it ate through everything we threw at it with ease. We (family) used it for camping and forging. However, after being used twice as the main bush crafting sawing tool, and taking a few knocks and bumps being attached to teenagers utility belts, the locking mechanism developed some play. Because of this we've retired (trashed) the saw for safety reasons. I would only recommend the product for a mature low energy person who'll use it around their property as a gardening tool. I want to love this saw but ours wasn't sturdy enough for bush crafting.

I bought this saw to keep in my vehicle as a just in case. Well today was a just in case day, we had some winds last night that knocked a sapling across the driveway. (I live in the woods) that handy little saw was perfect. Before my partner could walk back to retrieve his chainsaw, I had the tree cut in 3rds and the driveway cleared. I wouldn’t want to cut a large tree, but that’s more about my own strength rather than the saws capabilities. Very sturdy, and very easy to use.

I bought this compact saw a few months ago for small branches around the house and for camping. It works really well on small branches and limbs; really satisfied with it. It works well and is compact for carry in a back pack. I would recommend this product but just don't expect to be able to cut anything big with it.

Very disappointed. Not what I expected. Takes too long to cut a small branch. I bought this as a replacement for a very old Gerber LST saw. Even though the Gerber is well worn, it still cuts better than the SOG. The blade binds constantly with the forward stroke. The teeth aren't aggressive enough to cut without a lot of downward pressure and the blade tends to simply glide over the branch rather than cut. Also seems very heavy for a small saw. Not user friendly for a BOB. Money down the toilet....
This folding saw has a sharp blade, folds easily, and does its job well. It can easily cut through branches and small limbs 3-4" thick. The saw teeth are sharp and aggressive; this is not for making finish cuts by any means. However, it is effective at removing the skull plate of a deer. The overall construction is plenty acceptable given the price, but there are better options available (for more money). For a tool that only gets used a few times a year, this is a great option and I am happy with it.
I bought this and a Camillus saw in May, tried out both, and am really disappointed with the Sog blade. The blade is thinner than the Camillus, and when I bear down it sometimes wobbles around and needs several passes with a 1/2 branch. The Camillus is sturdy and cuts through in one pass. Expected more from sog.

Feels like a tool and not a toy! It probably weighs a bit much for ultra light or distance backpacking - no problem for home-owner applications or car campers, or in the truck, or for short pack distances into the woods. The saw blade itself looks like it has serious abilities. I did not have a chance to use the saw.The particular unit I received had a manufacturing flaw in the locking blade release. It would not operate to allow opening of the blade. I called SOG support and spoke with 2 different people there to find out if I was doing something wrong that it would not open. They apologized for the trouble and suggested I return the unit- which I am doing. Apparently the saw I received was defective. After about 35 minutes of fussing with the saw, I was finally able to get it to open. The blade release lever left heavy scratches on the side of the steel handle where it was binding. I closed it back up and had to fuss with it another 5 minutes to re-open the blade. I figured out that on the unit I received, you need to bite down hard on your tongue in just the right spot, then pull the blade lock lever (hard) side ways to the left and then down, and if you pull like heck, the release lever will operate. I was considering keeping this unit after I had the technique down, until further inspection. - I looked down into the handle of the saw - The area under the release lever - there is a spring there that is easy to see, looks like an oversized spring out of a retractable pen. In my opinion it looks like this would be a place for saw dust, pitch, and dirt to gather and in my opinion - this would set up wood dust and dirt clogging and possible failure for this small coil spring that engages with the blade lock. The tool does have a lifetime guarantee so in case of a failure I am sure SOG would stand behind the product. I think SOG missed it on the blade lock release in the production of my particular saw. In my opinion I also think they could have designed a more robust (maybe a lever type) of spring instead of the coil. The cutting blade looks amazing. I would encourage anyone interested in this saw to check out online video reviews of this saw. No one else seems to have had the opening difficulty that my particular saw had, and most online video reviews are very positive. Those reviews are at least part of why I bought this saw.Given the special opening technique required and the - in my opinion - questionable open-air spring placement I am going to return this unit unused.
I used this product for cutting down vines and small trees (2-4" dia).The blade is not very aggressive and required far more effort than my cheaper Gerber saw. The locking mechanism is weak and the blade folded back on itself several times. This could be a faulty design or it could be the way I was using it. If it was my fault and my hand bumped something that it shouldn't have when I used it, then it's a bad design.Look for pretty much anything else.
I purchased this saw with combination replaceable wood and bone saw blades for use in the field for backcountry hunting, fishing and camping expeditions. I will have a better idea as to how it stands up to all the rigors of use for those different applications after the end of March 2021 when all of our hunting and guiding seasons are over. It appears to be well made and looks and feels like it will be durable. Time and testing in the field will tell all.
This is an excellent addition to your hunting gear as you can purchase a bone saw blade for it. Perfect backpacking or off-roading supplies. Especially when you’re traveling through heavily wooded terrain.
