A great soundbar for the bedroom & beyond!

I wanted a solution for our bedroom that wouldn't require a subwoofer or surround speakers to provide a rich soundstage for watching TV and movies in bed. The Sonos Beam gen. 2 more than provides. It's design is unobtrusive and its available wall mount bracket really helps add that nice finishing touch when under a wall mounted tv. My space between the foot of the bed and TV is just over 2 feet so it works perfect for the limited space. The nice thing about Sonos is that they offer subwoofers and surround speakers to add on to the system if/when you desire them. I have a full home theater system in another room so I did not need a multiple speaker system in the bedroom as well. The Sonos Beam gen 2 keeps it simple where space is at a premium, and provides clarity, fullness, and detail all on its own. I highly recommend the Sonos Beam gen. 2 soundbar.

Though, I can't for sure pin this on Sonos as it might be a Spotify issue. Overall, a GREAT addition to my space. Sure, it's pricey compared to others, but I think it's worth it for the quality. Plus, I chose Sonos because of the mix-and-match ability and the ability to build my desired system over time. I'm just starting my career and I think it's a good investment to be able to build on this system when I can afford it.

This soundbar is small and compact which I loved. Upon unboxing, the design was slick and setup was a breeze. Once connected via HDMI eArc, I started streaming movies. The sound was incredible and voices were clear. I thought that this soundbar would be a keeper but there was one problem. That problem was that this soundbar made an EXTREMELY LOUD JACKHAMMER NOISE that would not shut off except by unplugging the soundbar. The fact that this happened at night made it VERY TERRIFYING. I advise everyone to look up on the Sonos community thread for this Sonos beam gen 2. There are so many people who say the same exact thing with the jackhammer sound. This has been out for over a year and still has not been fixed. Other Sonos products don’t have this issue so it’s just for their beam gen 2. BUYERS BEWARE!!!!

Sonos Beam Gen 2 surprises its listeners with rich and accurate sound. Beam can fill even a medium-sized room in a way that is probably enough for most people living in an apartment building. It is possible to add speakers to the system as needed, which makes it possible to build a convincing home theater for yourself, which, in addition to everything, looks good even to the eye of the decorator. Beam Gen 2 alone can't produce Dolby Atmos movies when watching sounds from behind or above, but that certainly won't come as a surprise to anyone. However, you will be surprised by how wide a sound world it is able to create, which is much bigger than what you would think from a small pillar. However, you will be surprised by how wide a sound world it is able to create, which is much bigger than what you would think from a small pillar. The bass is credible and strong, but in the lowest sounds, the Beam Gen 2 definitely needs a subwoofer next to it, for example the Sonos Sub Mini. In this case, however, the system may be too powerful for living in an apartment building. The product is definitely in its element when watching movies, but is also suitable for listening to music. The wide stereo image is very accurate when listening to music and the sound fills the room with a pleasant tone. The sound is neutral and rich, but the bass may leave something to be desired. I definitely recommend the product to someone who wants to take the sound of their TV to a new level and get more out of movies. In larger spaces, you should add a subwoofer to your system if you really want to feel the bass and not just hear it.

Great sound, problematic WiFi
5 July 2022

These days, restricting WiFi to the 2.4GHz band can cause issues, especially with a mixed network with a 5GHz band. My devices had a lot of trouble connecting to the Beam from the Sonos app when the devices were on 5GHz on the same network. Connecting took over a minute, if it succeeded at all. Firmware updating constantly failed as did adding music services or voice assistants. I wired the Beam to Ethernet and all the problems instantly vanished. Connection was instant and everything just worked. My suggestion for the next version is to support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and possibly 6GHz for the new WiFi 6e standard. One other issue I had was with NFC configuration. One other issue I had was with NFC configuration. It would not work with my iPhone 13 Pro Max at all, and I had to rely on sound pings for my initial setup. I had seen online that that particular phone had issues, including with Trueplay, but I had no problems with Trueplay. It worked just fine. The Beam itself is an awesome sound bar for the price point. It sounds great and is a pleasure to have once I hooked it up to Ethernet. I especially appreciate its excellent voice clarity and bass. The bass, while not jaw dropping, is good enough that I am not even tempted to buy the $750 subwoofer. As someone with so-so hearing, the exceptional voice clarity was a blessing. If you have a TV with low clearance (the sound bar is slightly taller than the bottom of the viewable screen on my LG C2 42), you might need a riser to raise the TV an inch or so. My review may seem overly critical for a four star review, but I wanted to tell potential buyers of the problems I ran into. The star rating is on the quality of the sound bar. It really is excellent with just a few setup problems. If you don't have multiple bands on your WiFi or if you have wired Ethernet, you will likely never see most of these issues.

Sonos Beam 2 reviews are plenty on the web. I will highlight my user experience based on using multiple soundbars. Sonos Beam Gen 2 is immersive sound in a small package. I am pretty much impressed with the Bass which is comparable to Boss 500 Subwoofer module. I added Sonos Paly 1 speakers as surround speakers. Sonos beam as stand alone is pretty good, once you add surround speakers its next level. Alex/Google voice assistant does not work in India, you have Sonos Android/iPhone app which has most of the user controls. The bar does not come with remote control, you need to use the app for any changes in the setting. Sonos does not have Bluetooth as well, the way it works is with either HDMI (eARC), optical input or via WIFI using the mobile app. I feel the cost is little higher, anywhere between 35K to 40K would have been a sweet spot. Since its fully imported the cost will be higher. This is highly capable system which very good audio quality.

This is not a soundbar that you can have full control of. Can't connect your phone and stream from here everything you desire, but a restrictive gadget. Yes, they say you can link your music Apps through their Sonos App, however, for example: on SoundCloud you can't search for a new song, can only play songs already stored in your playlists. Same with Spotify. If connected to a TV (with an eArc port/cable) and using for TV sound, when switching for playing songs from Sonos App on the phone, the TV doesn't get it's own sound back on, silence. Therefore, on this occasion, you'll be in the situation that can't watch TV programmes, but using it to play from the phone as well as, of course, consuming more electricity. The sound is very good, great quality sound, this is in my opinion the only real selling point. Sonos doesn't have a complete sound equalizing menu for personal preferences, you can only adjust the base, treble and loudness on/off. Doesn't come with a Surround mode as well. The only way this connects with the phone being WiFi (the same way if adding other speakers to it for creating a more complex sound system), I wonder what would happen in the event the internet connection drops. This is ridiculous. Sonos - pay the Bluetooth license so you can join the other big boys out there in the market. They offer all the other connectivity options all in one on their soundbars. Some even offering Chromecast and Google Assistant built in. In my opinion, this can be a great extension for TVs speakers and nothing more. Definitely, not worthy for a price they are sold at the moment. Be aware! Once creating an Sonos account, you can't delete it, on their website there is no account deletion option! If subscribed for their Sonos Radio HD, you can't delete your bank details!

Picked this up for our family room where we watch most of our tv. We have a dedicated home theater and sound out of the tv in the family room is so shallow I had to do something. I tried a tv branded sound bar but it wasn't good at all, truly not much better than sound out of the tv and it wasn't a cheap one. Decided to give the Sonos Beam a try and it did not disappoint. Even without a subwoofer the sound is so much fuller and voice is so much better. I'm quite surprised with the response of the Beam. It's not true surround or Dolby Atmos, but the effect from its digital processing on the spatial image of the sound catches me by surprise at times. And no, it's not close to true home theater or Atmos, but you do get an amazing amount of room filling sound out of a small bar. I wouldn't doubt I pick up the mini sun in the near future. The voice control is nice and they claim they aren't keeping track of you as some other devices do. Linking my SiriusXM subscription was simple and I expect linking other music services will be just as easy. I do wish voice control worked with SiriusXM but that's s small complaint. The app is easy to setup and use, no hiccups like I had with the tv branded sound bar app. Finally, voice enhancement works very well, very clear without being overpowering, still keeps a good balance. Now I hope it lasts many years and not just 2 or 3.

Small with big sound
9 January 2023

The Sonos Beam gen 2 is a small sound bar with a big sound. It is generally easy to set up and with a Android or Apple Sonos application, provides you with a way to control the sound from various sources. I previously had a small Bose sound bar and this by far has a much fuller, stronger sound. We have it in a small living area and the sound is full and does not sound like it is coming from a small box. One problem with sound bars and TV speakers, in general, is it is sometimes difficult to hear what people are saying. Words are drowned out by background music or because the actors are speaking in quiet voices. The Sonos addresses this with the ability to focus on voices through its center speaker and remote control. The Sonos addresses this with the ability to focus on voices through its center speaker and remote control. This is the primary reason we got it, it works very well and we are very happy with it. The one issue I have with the sound bar, ironically, is sound level output. Depending on the incoming source (tv, Netflix, Prime, Disney, Pandora) the sound from each source comes in at different volume levels which need to be adjusted at the remote control. For instance, tv has a weak sound and has to be turned up. Should you switch from TV to Netflix, the speaker blows you away and has to be lowered. It would be nice if the incoming sources could be regulated at the speaker level so that the sound comes through at a consistent level of loudness. The price is a little steep but I think it is well worth the money.

Underwhelming Despite All the High Ratings
29 October 2022

I love the design of this sound bar - it is compact and sleek (it fit perfectly on top of my small tv stand and did not hang over the sides). The sound bar also packed quite a punch considering how compact it is. However, I did not like how inconsistent the volume was across various platforms (i.e., devices and games). On one particular video game console, for example, I would have to play one game on a high volume and another game on a very low volume - this involved having to press the volume button on the remote more than 6 times in one direction and the same for the other. This discrepancy was not evident on my previous sound bar. The sound bar also does not indicate the volume number on the bar itself or on the television screen - so, this basically made ... MoreI love the design of this sound bar - it is compact and sleek (it fit perfectly on top of my small tv stand and did not hang over the sides). This discrepancy was not evident on my previous sound bar. The sound bar also does not indicate the volume number on the bar itself or on the television screen - so, this basically made adjusting the volume a guessing game and I’d find myself startled or underwhelmed when transitioning from one device/game to another. I previously loved having a numbered volume indicator because I knew how high or low I wanted the volume for each situation - for example, “9” on one game and “11” for another. Although you do get a volume indicator when using the Sonos app, it’s inconvenient that you have to boot up an app on your phone and look at your phone to see how high or low you have the volume. Even with the various settings on the sound bar and television adjusted, certain sounds were either too loud or too low and did not make sense within the context of the situation- in one game, for example, dialogue was very low but opening doors/dropping items was very loud; it just seemed unbalanced and the experience was not like that with my prior television/sound bar set up. I have since returned the sound bar and replaced it with one that is the same brand as the television - it has been a much better experience.
