Excellent successor to my JBL Xtreme

Love that with airplay, I can pair them up with either my pair of Sonos One's in my bedroom for that extra bass and fill in the sound more...since it's airplay, I can even pair them up with my HomePods also when in other rooms. The Move comes with a simple sack for transport but since the sack covers the handle, it's not very useful...I'm sure you can get a good aftermarket case for travel. But all in all very happy with the sound and functionality. Another notes is that if you were thinking about buying a pair of Sonos Ones, which I did and love that setup also, you may want to instead by just one Move as it can fill up the room with sounds with more bass than with the pair of Ones. So If you can get over the high price, definitely recommend!

First what I love: 1) Great sound quality - all ranges and volumes. This was my #1 priority. 2) The adjustable EQ settings in the app is a great feature - it's nice to be able to adjust for different times of day, room size or volume level. Also appreciate the compression level settings. 3) AirPlay mode is nice for sound quality. The unavoidable drawback being that it burns through speaker and phone power more quickly than BT mode. 4) Looks great. Simple and clean design, yet not boring. 5) Easy to move and fits pretty much anywhere I want to set it. 5) Moisture and dust resistance. 6) Ability to control volume, play/pause and track skipping from the speaker. Complaints: 1) Don't like the "sleep" mode - it will turn back on randomly, sometimes when I don't want to broadcast what I'm currently listening to/watching on my phone, or just sits turned on, burning battery life for hours before I notice. 2) Turning off takes too long (5sec hold). Should just be 1sec on/off (with no sleep mode). 3) When using AirPlay, takes a long time to reconnect to the network after being turned on, during which time you're unable to change it to BT mode. 4) When turned off in BT mode, it will often try connecting to the network/AirPlay rather than resuming in BT mode. 5) No Aux/headphone jack 6) App (minor) - the only settings I really use are the EQ and being able to check the battery level. Only wish the EQ settings were quicker to access in the app menus, and it would be nice if they were accessible during BT play (only available during AirPlay/network mode). Some of the other settings are necessary and nice, however I only have one speaker so I haven't had to pair with another for speaker (although this seems like a cool feature), and I do not use either the voice assistants or any of the media/content controls through the app, so I cannot speak to those. It'd be nice to have a slightly cheaper version that excludes the voice assistant & microphone. Overall: Great speaker - highly recommended (I might buy another in the future to pair with it). A tad expensive (got it on sale for $330), but still feels worth every dollar, assuming it lasts (I've had it for about 3 months at the time of this review). I am still very satisfied with this purchase despite my knit-picky gripes. It would be extra super awesome if it had a small, FULLY adjustable LED band between the base and the grill that wrapped around same length as the grill. Also a aux jack and a dust cover for it and the usb jack. Thanks SONOS for a great product!

However, it’s Sonos and they are known for superior sound quality and functionality. Once the speakers was delivered and tested, I had no problem with how expensive it was. Pros: The battery life is fantastic. I’m getting over 10 hours between charges. The bass is very impressive for a speaker of its size. The mids and highs are just right. Just like their other speakers, when at home on wifi, you can sync it to your other Sonos speakers. Take this speaker outside in the backyard and keep your whole home audio synced up. It also has Bluetooth so you can still connect to it via Bluetooth when taking it with you away from home. It also has Alexa, Google Home and the new Sonos Voice features. These work flawlessly. Charging was well thought out. It comes with a ring stand with plug that it sits on when not carrying around. It stays on like all other Sonos speakers when on the ring. When off the ring, it will power itself off after about 15 mins of no audio playing to conserve battery power. If you are away, it has a USB C port that you can use to charge it or leave plugged in when away from the ring base when needed. Cons: At this point, I’ve yet to come across a single con. If I had to nit pick about anything, I would say that the wire from the base to the plug isn’t removable so if the wire were to break for whatever reason, the whole base needs to be replaced. I say this is minor because technically, the base isn’t necessary for charging since there is also a USB C port as an option as well. Over all, if anything ever happened to this speaker, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase it again unless they release a new version of it by that time. The sound is just crazy good as is most of Sonos speakers. If you’re on the fence, don’t be. You will not be disappointed in it.

Good Portable Speaker
23 June 2022

I own two Sonos Ones, a Move and a Boost. The Sonos Move is designed to be a standalone speaker. It is battery powered and Bluetooth compatible. Because most of the documents does not mention the Move is NOT compatible with the Sonos network installation was not straight forward. Adding the Boost using the iOS app did not work as documented. The Sonos documentation and help were no help. The user forums sent me down a couple wrong paths but eventually provided the answers I needed.

Good, but needs expert functions

Hey, guys! Great product (that sonos move)! But i would like to have somekind of expert settings. By that I mean that eq section having only Bass and Treble doesn't cut it for me. I work as a sound engineer and would very much like to customize my sound more for my environment. (Ofcourse I don't use Move for my work, I mean that my home listening experience needs to be more adjustable.) Another thing is the "environment analyzer" part for Sonos Move. I don't remember the exact name for this function. The thing is, I would like to know when it is doing it, or when it has done it. Evenmore I would like to tell it to analyze the room, have a place to turn on that function in the app, or maybe even physical button on the device. And I would need the device to give me a confirmation when it has done it - notifying me with a colored light blinking or sound of somekind or both. I am very much waiting for speech functions for Spotify and Tidal, so do my kids. Google assistant and Alexa for some reason are not supported with Sonos in my country (Estonia). They do work outside the app, controlling my home devices so I don't really get why it is supposed to be banned with Sonos. But I am willing to give "Hey, Sonos!" a chance so you better keep on improving that! Good luck building the best sounding smart home (and work etc) speaker systems.

Needing a somewhat portable, high quality speaker and after reading many reviews and owning several Sonos products that I am happy with I took the plunge and bought one. I was not disappointed. The sound quality is great, setup is ridiculously easy and it looks really good. However, after a couple of weeks it just died. No status lights, would not charge with the power base or a USB charger, nothing. Of course could not see it through the app which told me the Move was off-line and asked me to click for support. Going through the voice call tree was a little frustrating so I called the Sonos support line. Spoke with a lady who was just great. She asked me all kinds of questions and we determined that it was simply dead - no autopsy findings so I can't share exactly what went wrong. She told me that since the purchase was still within the window for returns at B+H I should work through them. I did and B+H, as usual, was great. I have received my replacement Sonos Move and it is fully charged and I'm enjoying the music once again. Just in case, I am keeping the box and all the box internal packing items. Again, just in case. I'm thinking that my experience was a one-off because I'm not reading of any others with the same death problem. I still recommend the product and the company. The only other down side and this was timing only - I noticed that my replacement Sonos Move was less expensive - there is a sale that started after my purchase and at the time of my problem. Oh, well.

Sonos Move

I was initially confused between getting the Beolit 20 and the Sonos Move. This is also because the team at SmartHomeSounds kept their price Match promise where I had seen the Beolit 20 for cheaper. This meant I could either get the Beolit 20 or the Sonos Move for pretty much the same price. The Sonos Move looks simple but feels premium. It was very easy to set up and the charging dock adds to the sweet look of this speaker. In terms of sound, my expectations were very high and I dare say that it match my expectations niche by niche. It helped me hear background sounds/instruments I have never heard before on tracks I have repeatedly listened to in the past. The sound clarity and instrument separation is so distinct and smooth to the ears. The bass is great at low to semi high volumes which is around the range I will use the speaker most of the times. So I am happy with that. I also love the ease of use if the Sonos app. Especially the feature of having to set the EQ which certainly works because it allows me to increase the bass and there’s a clear difference between the normal set up and the tweaked to your listening preference set up. The battery life is also pretty good even when playing at high volumes. It lasted long enough with ample battery life to go again without needed to be recharged. I also realised that the sound quality is not tampered with when the battery is low which is quite interesting compared to other speakers I have listened to. I also do not think it is heavy for short distances. The small design carve behind the speakers allows me to easily pick it up and drop it. However, I found that the bass tends to thin out at higher volumes even after adjusting the bass in the app EQ option. This is why I have rated it a 4/5 as bass is a major feature I personally like and pay attention to when it comes to speakers. Overall, I am happy with the product and hope to keep it for some years to come till something better is introduced into the market that’s convincing enough to replace this beauty and beast of a speaker.

Sounds great, horrible network connectivity.
6 October 2022

I have an extensive music library, I like to stream, however, sometimes it is nice to play an entire CD or album that I can pick and choose from my own selection. In my opinion, adding music to the library (which is stored on a drive connected to the TP-Link AX11000 router) is absolutely painful. The limit is apparently 65,000 files as well as a limit on title length. Also unless you know exactly how many files you are adding to the Sonos you have no idea that something exceeded their limits...ahhhhh. As well as Sonos apparently took out the ability to look at your own system data. Combine that with the horrific network problems, Occasionally, Sonos is able to find all 4 Move speakers when I want to play something. The support page keeps suggesting it is my network ... MoreI have an extensive music library, I like to stream, however, sometimes it is nice to play an entire CD or album that I can pick and choose from my own selection. I assure you there are no network problems in my house. Have you tried calling support lately,.. The trouble is they sound great, and I cannot find a substitute, however I also cannot recommend them or wish them on a friend that I want to remain friends with.

Versatile and Room-Filling Sound
8 July 2022

I think this is a great speaker overall, in terms of portability, sound, and value. I have bought about 8 Sonos speakers in the last 2 years - including One's, 2 Beams, 2 Play:3 (now discontinued). The Move is an interesting device because it can effectively replace the One's or Play:3 - I think it actually sounds better than either of these devices: Louder, more room-filling, with richer bass. Of course, a single Move can't replace a surround sound setup (I have a Beam plus 2 One's in my living room); but if you have a whole home setup, you won't really notice the difference with a Move being the main speaker in a secondary room. The portability aspect of it basically allows you to have 1 device for 2 different areas in the home - the permanent dock serves the room ... MoreI think this is a great speaker overall, in terms of portability, sound, and value. The portability aspect of it basically allows you to have 1 device for 2 different areas in the home - the permanent dock serves the room where you use it the most, but you can still carry the Move into a sporadic-use area (like the backyard or bathroom) whenever you'd like. So even at its inflated price point of $399, I would still consider it a better value than buying 2 One's - you're getting better sound plus portability (which you wouldn't get by purchasing 2 standalone One's). I actually bought my Move during Sonos' 20% off summer sale, which makes this an easy purchase. If you're just starting out with the Sonos system, really think about how you'd use the speakers, how you would setup in the home, and strongly consider this device vs getting multiple One's - I think you might be surprised by the versatility of the Move.

We are Moving to Better Sound
10 January 2023

My wife and I listen to music differently. When I want to enjoy music on a good sound system I head to Guyland in my basement and select from source choices for input and Big, Old, Heavy three-way speaker systems in furniture-like ported, floor standing cabinets - playable in combinations with a surround sound system. This is my heritage music system with many components dating back to the mid-1970s. My wife likes songs, sometimes. To her tastes, quiet is usually the best noise. Songs can play from internet streaming on a puck-like device that can also answer verbal questions. NOW, current best practices have caught up with us. Our children gave us a Sonos Move for Christmas. As I easily move the Move from Family Room to Living Room to Dinning Room and use my iPhone ... MoreMy wife and I listen to music differently. Our children gave us a Sonos Move for Christmas. As I easily move the Move from Family Room to Living Room to Dinning Room and use my iPhone or iPad to control Spotify playlists or albums, my wife is definitely getting onboard the Better Sound train! She is even talking about adding other Sonos devices around the house! Sound is no longer noisy songs. We are enjoying a Rich Range of well engineered Sound that makes the music listening much more enjoyable! Wow, what a revelation.
