This is a significant TV upgrade for me. My previous 9 year old Full HD Sony TV has served me very well but it was showing its age. Setting up the A80L was straightforward although a little long winded due the various application terms of service that needed attention. The A80L can be set up as a basic TV but I wanted the full feature set.The A80L is the first TV that I’ve owned where on first viewing I did not feel the immediate need to make adjustments to the picture (usually the colour). Colours were well presented and controlled. Images were rendered with strong colours when necessary without losing detail. The OLED screen did just as well with subtle colours with smooth gradations. All the Full HD content I watched was upscaled really nicely.Compared to my previous TV I got the impression that the A80L had a slightly wider aspect ratio than the standard 16:9 screen. Maybe it just looks that way because the screen is so much larger than what I am use to.I’m so impressed with the sound quality. During the setup process the TV auto calibrates the audio using the microphone in the remote. I can hear depth and detail in the TVs sound with decent stereo separation. It’s amazing that the main sound is coming directly from the screen itself. Although I did not feel the immedicate need to attach a sound bar, I know a sound bar will always present a more weighty and surround sound encompassing audio experience.The quick settings menu was a godsend. It saved me from having to dive into the main settings menu to make essential adjustments like the sound mode, picture mode, and power saving.The biggest issue I had with the TV was with the terrestrial channels. Initially it seemed as though there was no way to select my favourite channels into a group. It turns out there was two ways to get to the terrestrial channels. There was two apps; a digital app and a Live and Catchup TV app. The Live and Catchup TV app is provided by Youview and allows earlier TV shows to be viewed. It however does not have a Favourite channel feature. This was what I was initially using. The digital app is straight from the TV's digital tuner and does have the Favourite channel feature. Unfortunately, changing channels felt a bit slow to me with is app. Each app presents their own TV guide.The Bravia Core streaming app presented the highest quality streams. The movies had the same kind of appearance I only tend to get from playing physical bluray disks.Two remote controls were provided. One which I would call a general remote and the other a dedicated Google TV remote. I assume this was done to avoid having one big remote control.The morning after I had set up the TV I was surprised to see the TV had switched itself on. There is a power on timer in the settings which was set to off (the default was set to midnight). I deleted the default and so far the issue hasn't reoccured.Upgrading from a 42" TV to a 55" has meant I now need to upgrade my TV cabinet. Although the A80L feet can be reversed to have a smaller gap between them I've come to realise I'm better off with a wider TV cabinet. My previous TV had a pedestal style stand but I guess that as TVs have got larger having feet provide a more stable platform.

That coupled with the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and game mode made the games play flawlessly. When they added the tag Perfect for PlayStation they weren't kidding! The sound is both a love and hate relationship for me during my first week with the TV, you can really hear the different with the Dolby Atmos and the built speakers do pack a surprising punch for the audio but they do also carry me on to the only negative I have about the TV. The ease of use of the home menu or the included Bravia Core with 24 months of free streaming and 15 tokens to use on some new titles is a real plus, it has ended up being a stream service I didn't know I needed and have watch a surprising amount of things on it. By choice I don't use a cable TV or Sky box and so I do all my TV viewing through on demand and streaming from all the major streaming companies, this TV has them all so I have been able to continue and enjoy my programs in best quality I have seen them so far. The Negative: It is such a minor thing but once I noticed it, it was hard not to un-notice it. The sound has some great punch and depth to it but it does miss on the bass and sometimes movies can sound a little tinny. I found playing with the equaliser did remedy most of the tinny noise but a soundbar with a subwoofer would probably remedy this small issue. Just as an additional I really do love the included smart remote which allowed me to control everything with just the push of 1 of the 6 included quick start buttons allowing me to get to YouTube or Disney+ with ease, also it lights up in the dark so I don't need to turn my light on at night! My overall impression of the Sony 65" BRAVIA XR A84L OLED TV has been fantastic and I look forward to how they advance their TV range going forward.

My previous TV was an 2020 Sony LED TV and having that side by side with this and play the same content (Black Panther Wakanda Forever streamed from Disney Plus on the first day and later also noticed a massive difference in Ted Lasso also streamed from Apple TV+) was a good way to demonstrate the differences in the picture quality. I also watched a 4k bluray of Matrix Ressurrections which looked crisp with a colours once again being very radiant.The speakers built in to the TV and the sound coming from the screen was great.The TV doesn't connect well with my existing Yamaha YAS107 soundbar so I am having to manually turn the soundbar on every time I use the TV. Hopefully something Sony can fix in a future firmware/software update.Around a week later the TV also developed this issue where it wouldn't always launch and instead freeze and restart itself. Hopefully also a temporary issue that will be fixed soon.Both the negatives haven't really impacted my experience with the TV as the pros of the improvement to the image quality outweigh them massively.

The picture quality is extremely good. the colours really stand out when flowers are shown on horticultural programmes and the image resolution allows the details of blooms to be seen clearly. The one disappointment is, when watching scenes from dramas that take place on darkened sets, it is difficult to see the detail and despite using the automatic background light sensor got no better results than I’ve done in the past. This is partly due to the bright background light in the room during long summer evenings.The sound quality is excellent with the use of the screen as a speaker providing really well-defined deep bass. Only the most demanding audiophiles will require a soundbar.Setting up was not too difficult but I would recommend 2 things:Be prepared for the size of it by having a console or a ready wall mount set up. I improvised a stand using two stools (see photograph) but would not recommend it if you have small children around.Have all the devices you wish to connect to the set to hand along with the user id’s and passwords and use the set-up wizard. I didn’t and wasted time.This is an excellent product and am happy to recommend it.

I went full vanilla and removed my soundbar too, so I could get the full experience of the forward facing speakers behind the OLED screen.The positives:So there are a multitude great things to talk about with this TV, beginning with the best part the picture quality is utterly stunning I upgraded from an LG OLED to the Bravia and the difference is night and day. Whether watching a Imax enhanced 4k movie on Disney+ or Bravia Core to a SD video on YouTube the TV seems to make everything crisp and vivid. Especially the Ultra HD content is some of the best quality I have seen outside of the Cinema. The picture quality continues its impressive display when you hook up a PS5 to it, using the included 120hz HDMI port I found my PS5's visuals in games like God of War Ragnarok and Star Wars Jedi Survivor went from great to amazing. That coupled with the VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and game mode made the games play flawlessly. When they added the tag Perfect for PlayStation they weren't kidding! The sound is both a love and hate relationship for me during my first week with the TV, you can really hear the different with the Dolby Atmos and the built speakers do pack a surprising punch for the audio but they do also carry me on to the only negative I have about the TV. The ease of use of the home menu or the included Bravia Core with 24 months of free streaming and 15 tokens to use on some new titles is a real plus, it has ended up being a stream service I didn't know I needed and have watch a surprising amount of things on it. By choice I don't use a cable TV or Sky box and so I do all my TV viewing through on demand and streaming from all the major streaming companies, this TV has them all so I have been able to continue and enjoy my programs in best quality I have seen them so far.The Negative:It is such a minor thing but once I noticed it, it was hard not to un-notice it. The sound has some great punch and depth to it but it does miss on the bass and sometimes movies can sound a little tinny. I found playing with the equaliser did remedy most of the tinny noise but a soundbar with a subwoofer would probably remedy this small issue.Just as an additional I really do love the included smart remote which allowed me to control everything with just the push of 1 of the 6 included quick start buttons allowing me to get to YouTube or Disney+ with ease, also it lights up in the dark so I don't need to turn my light on at night!My overall impression of the Sony 55" BRAVIA XR A84L OLED TV has been fantastic and I look forward to how they advance their TV range going forward.

This also continues for a range of set-top boxes and sounders, with the Bravia again detecting the device and labelling the connection for on-screen setting. The remotes provided are simple, but intuitive, with useful buttons to take you straight to the most useful providers like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney + among others.The Bravia core application is easy to use & automatically updates during installation. It provides an excellent range of content, with a very generous introductory period to sample what is available; the range of recent films in particular is fantastic.In all, the Bravia is a great combination of image, sound and content in a beautifulyl-designed package

I primarily use this TV for gaming so I was super impressed that the TV comes with a dedicated gaming menu. This allows you to adjust items such as VRR, motion blur and black levels. The fact that the TV knew I had connected a Playstation 5 and configured all the settings itself was very impressive. This shows that Sony have thought about the implementation and leveraged their gaming sector.I have integrated the TV to my Google assistant so I can control it using my voice. Netflix looks outstanding on this TV especially as the TV has Dolby Vision and HDR.The sound on this TV is also very good for a TV (I always use a soundbar). The TV vibrates the screen to produce the sound so the sound comes from where it should do on the screen.Overall, I am very impressed with this TV as the picture quality is outstanding, the features are impressive and it is very easy to use.Picture - Amazing colours, black and detail. Unpacking & setting up this tv was quite straight forward with everything being simple & intuitive.Firstly the TV stand gives a three position setting so a sound bar if needed could be placed in front of the TV. Google TV brings a massive range of apps inclusive of your favourite streaming services plus the added ease of interacting & searching with just your voice.My PS5 interfaced immediately when connected & I realised straight away the Sony XR 55080LU is a great gaming TV too.Another nice touch with the Sony XR55080LU is the cable connector cover on the rear of the TV keeping everything nice & tidy.My only negative comment on this TV is the provision of two remote controllers, one for the apps & the other one for the TV. I found the TV remote control buttons on the small side & if you don’t have small hands then you will find the buttons to be too small & close together at times. One larger remote control combining the apps & TV controllers would have been better.My conclusion of the Sony XR55080LU TV is a great television straight out of the box the settings didn’t need any adjustments along with the basic setup installation. Time needs to be spent exploring the many features this TV has to offer, the only negative I found was the remote control. Otherwise I believe Sony have produced a brilliant TV with excellent sound quality.
