Amazing camera for both professional projects and day to day use. Extremely easy to navigate options in more than one place for ease of use depending on shot needed. Tons of accessories and lenses available for the unit. The clarity into all four corners is a step above the rest. 4K filming with multiple SD card options is great. I can set each card port to be still photos and one for the video. This saves time when needed to download just the still photos for quick review. The display shows the image in true quality and this is a huge improvement from most cameras. No more guessing if the photo is dark or out of focus due to the display not matching the image quality. It's incredibly light for its capabilities as well. This makes it a first choice to carry on any ... MoreAmazing camera for both professional projects and day to day use. An amateurs review - Great camera!
19 November 2022

Was looking for a decent camera to take some nice holiday pics and build up my skills. This camera isn't cheap but I did my research and it had everything I wanted. Having watched some YouTube reviews it also helped to make up my mind. For those new to cameras and not sure which one to pick... if this is in your price range go for this, you won't be disappointed. The flip out screen that can rotate both ways was a huge benefit taking pics and especially selfies. The buttons for switching between pic and video are simple as literally pressing a button. The touch screen also just added to the quality of this camera making it easy to use and navigate. It's certainly given me confidence to use more and try new settings to get the perfect pic.You won't be disappointed!

Bought the camera over a month ago. Been my first Sony camera ever, I've been a different brand shooter for over 5 years. Obviously I will compare it with my other cameras. Although it features a 33mp sensor, and some will say a better low light performance, comparing with my previous camera can't say there's much of difference, although my camera had 2 years since release. After using it for few days, I've started to encounter this weird EyeAf focusing issue, every few shots I had more front focus or back focus than acceptable hits, like 6out of 10 were miss focused, on eyebrows or nose. That happened on wide aperture from 1.8 to 2.8 even 4. It happened on different focusing zones when eye af was priority. That happened on wide aperture from 1.8 to 2.8 even 4. It happened on different focusing zones when eye af was priority. As this wasn't bad enough, the focus box confirmed focus on one eye and to find out that the other eye was more in focus, than the eye that should have been but was not. Seems there are more people encountered this issue, sadly the camera became unreliable for my use. Have no idea if this is a hardware or software related issue, as Sony support isn't that helpful as you would expect. Also, my a7iv copy seems to have more noise than normal even at low ISO, from 160 to 400 it looks like 800 to 1000 on my different brand camera (2 years old) in controled lighting conditions. It leeds me to believe that quality control isn't that strict as I would have thought for a big company like Sony. I am aware that there is a world chip crisis, but for no reason customer should pay that price, they should receive a faultless product that works as advertised.

Ed's review of Sony a7 IV with 28-70mm Lens Kit

Pros: I’m new to using a “grown up” camera - I’ve been an iPhone photographer for many years and finally decided to take the plunge and get a proper camera. I wanted one that I would want to keep and wouldn’t be looking to upgrade after a year or so like many people seem to do when they’ve made a compromise (according to what I have read in some reviews about other cameras)This camera is great straight out of the box for photos or video but it would be advisable to watch an absolute beginners tutorial first, (obviously you’ll need some high quality memory cards once out of the box too). The lens that comes with this camera is very good for me and at this stage I’m getting some great photos with it, but many experts (with loads of cash lying around) probably wouldn’t ... MorePros: I’m new to using a “grown up” camera - I’ve been an iPhone photographer for many years and finally decided to take the plunge and get a proper camera. One feature I like is using the, Imaging Edge App, this is fantastic for taking remote photos and has been very useful at Christmas when used with a tripod. I’m looking forward to using that for some nature photography too. There are so many good tutorials on YouTube for this camera and there are some books on this model too. I’m enjoying learning all about it. The possibilities with this camera seem endless. The packaging was all plastic free too, every bit of it, well done Sony.Cons: So far nothing I don’t like. Would have liked a separate charging station.

Fantastic "one size fits (pretty much) all" camera!

My best photographic decision so far was switching systems from Nikon to Sony a few years back. I opted for the a7III as it was perfect for my concert photography needs. The A7III is a classic camera and will go down in history. My a7III was feeling a little tired, so it was time for an upgrade and I upgraded to the A7IV. I opted for the A7IV rather than the A7RIV because of the megapixel count. I didn't want to go too high for my line of work because too many megapixels for concert photography enhance "blemishes" such as motion blur or camera shake which is pronounced at lower shutter speeds due to low light.I dabble in video too, and wedding photography, and the A7IV is a fantastic all-around camera with features and tech from Sony's higher-end cameras. This ... MoreMy best photographic decision so far was switching systems from Nikon to Sony a few years back. Fantastic Camera

My DSLR was really outdated and I have been procrastinating purchasing a new camera for a few years. Finally I took the plunge. I spent a couple of months researching the current top crop of full frame mirrorless cameras. The Sony A7 IV kept popping up again and again. So I concentrated my efforts on researching the A7 IV. I finally decided this was the camera for me. So far I have went on two shots with it (landscapes, architect...) and I am amazed at the quality of shots I can get with this camera. I shoot in manual mode and I love the rear screen and view finder, so much information can be made available and it is customizable. I ended up picking the 35 - 150 f2.0 - f2.8 Tamron lens, this thing is a beast and will more than likely cover everything I will shoot. The depth of the menu in the Sony A7 IV is amazing, so many things can be set up to make the camera yours. I am completely happy with my purchase.

Combined with a great starting lens for portraits and wide. A perfect and stunning images with a 33 megapixel sensor will give you some room for cropping without losing detail. Battery life is superb giving a chance of shooting something like a wedding on just one battery, I've personally have shot almost 500-600 pictures before needing to replace the battery. It also has the ability to shoot 4k 60fps video or 1080p 120fps continuously without overheating. If you are using older versions of Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom beware for updates as the RAW file is ARW type which is not compatible with older versions. For that I use the DNG Converter for my image processing for Lightroom. Is a must have for starters and professional photographers alike.

Only one drawback
18 July 2022

Before I go on to talk about all the great things about this camera, I must mention the thing that has been the biggest drawback for me. I didn’t realise that ‘RAW’ is not the same with all cameras. My husband has the A7iii, and has no problems reading RAW files with his iPad whereas I cannot read RAW files from my A7iv on my iPad using Apple’s RAW engine (they just appear totally black). I don’t know why Sony needed to change the standard so it was incompatible, or whether Apple will (some day) update their RAW engine so it will read the files - either way, it’s a pain in the backside! I have found a way around it (sort of), by importing the RAW files into Affinity Photo from the ‘files’ app, but as you can only do it one at a time it’s not ideal. The jpeg files can be read by the Apple system, so review is possible if I record jpeg and RAW on separate cards. At this price point, however, I would expect that most purchasers will be expecting to work in RAW.I have been extremely happy with the focussing system - the human/animal/bird eye autofocus seems to work well. Tracking is excellent (but I’ll need more practice to understand how ‘sticky’ to make it in various situations). The twist and tilt screen is very useful for taking high and low angle shots, and I like the fact that when it is stored it protects the screen. The camera is infinitely customisable - you just have to remember what function you put where!I’m looking forward to taking it on an extended field test to see exactly what I can do with it.
