Sony Alpha A6300 Mirrorless Digital Camera (Body Only)

LOVE LOVE LOVE my A6300! I've had it just over a year now after upgrading from taking photos on auto mode on my Galaxy (which turned out well) to always shooting on manual mode on this amazing camera. It is simple to learn (with patience and lots of practice) but is definitely not a slacker in performance. This camera can give you some great shots, especially paired with the right lenses. I rarely use the 16-50mm kit lens, not to say it isn't a good lens, I have just upgraded to others and prefer the option of a longer focal length for everyday walks and hikes. This camera paired with my go-to lens (sony G 18-105mm f4) has a bit of bulk due to the size of the lens, but it is not at all unreasonable and I've taken this combo on several intense hikes worn cross body comfortably or placed safely in a walmart purchased hiking backpack, still having room for drinks and snacks in the bag. I also always shoot in RAW which I can't recommend enough if you plan on doing any moderately serious editing later on. Yes, they have put out a few newer Sony axxx models but I have no desire to swap this one out as it's now just a great value without things I dont really need. It doesn't have in-body-image-stabilization so you have to be mindful of this especially when shooting in lower light or longer exposures but you can either pair it with a lens with built in stabilization or just be aware of your settings like a good photographer and you'll be completely fine. Pair these great lenses with a decent ND filter and you'll be shooting silky smooth waterfalls or remove it for great wildlife or portrait shots anywhere. My advice, buy this camera knowing you'll need to take the time to learn it, but you'll love the result and become much more confident in your photography skills. After years of using DSLR and full frame mirror less, I wanted something that was portable, produced a great image, and more than capable with video. Enter the Sony a6400. I’ve been more than pleased with this APS-C size mirrorless. It’s so light and packs a great image and offers 120 fps which is insane for a sub $1000 camera. The kit lens is ok but versatile but you e got access to the entire Sony lineup of lenses which is great. I didn’t think I wanted to have interchangeable lenses anymore but after using a Ricoh GRIII, I missed the versatility. Would 100% recommend any of the Sony a6XXX cameras. Oh and the pop up flash is a joy.

Can Canon and Nikon catch up to Sony?

A while back I bought a Canon 70D because of the HD capabilities and technology of the auto focus. Thought it is still a powerful camera in my bag of cameras, technology keeps getting better and better, and I needed a camera that could do everything well in both vidoegraphy and photography including 4K; hence, why I switched over to Sony and especially the Sony a6300. My answer to how well the camera is simply is: WOW. I never had the Sony a6000 and don't think I need to own one because the Sony a6300 outdoes the Sony a6000 especially if videography is also what you do. They simply stated that they had to prioritize the most important aspects of the a6300. Well, truth is - those 2 are equally important and the 6300 Mark II will have what we want with perhaps maybe a bigger body as well. Now, those are the only 2 things that I can see wrong with the camera but power wise, results, and quality - WOW, well done Sony with the a6300. I am still a fan of Canon and Nikon but my gosh Sony is catching up and catching so quick with their tech approach that if Canon and Nikon don't get up and do something about it, Sony will take over the ASP-C cameras market and truth is - the Full Frame Sony also are really creeping on the Canon's and Nikon's top notch cameras. My question now for Canon and Nikon is - Sony is on to something here, perhaps it's time to catch up as well? Also, if you are thinking of the Canon 80D vs the Sony a6300 - don't even think twice as the Sony a6300 just blows the Canon 80D out of the water. I even think that the a6300 does a far better job than the Canon 7D Mark II but that is my personal opinion. Unless the Canon 7D mark II goes to Mark III, when the a6300 goes to Mark II then there won't be anymore comparisons between the two as the Sony a6300 Mark II will also take over.If you are considering a camera that can do it all and do it well - the Sony a6300 is your choice.

Compact but versatile.

I bought this camera specifically to try astrophotography with my 600mm telescope. Although I’m a beginner at this I’m very impressed with the camera. The fact that it’s mirrorless means that I can turn it to electronic shutter and take numerous photos, (eg 200 or so for stacking), without any wear on the mechanism and without increasing the shutter count.So far I’ve only done photos of the moon and planets but I’m very impressed.My only problems so far have been with the complexity of using it. It seems like hundreds of settings and an awful lot to learn.One thing that I don’t like is Sony’s Imaging Edge program to link my smartphone and laptop to the camera. Excellent build & features

I have as yet not had much opportunity to fully test drive my camera. I had 35mm SLR cameras (film) years ago & since 2003 have had a number of Sony compact cameras. My favourite & still in use is/was my Sony DSC-R1 with Zeiss lense, it is against this camera I will judge the a6300. The a6300 is much lighter & more compact but the kit lense is somewhat disappointing. I purchased the Sony 35mm 1.8 standard lense which is extremely sharp & fast but obviously not that good for individual people/animal/subject outdoor shots, but excellent for indoor & general snaps outdoor & of course in poor light. I would ideally like a lense with a similar range to my R1 (24-120 equivalent 35mm) & therefore am considering of one of the two Zeiss lenses or the Sony G lense. It is a pity the kit lense is so slow as it is a lovely size & is quite responsive to use but the results in anything other than well lit (outdoor) conditions are somewhat soft/poor. I would have preferred to have paid a little more for a faster kit lense. I had considered another Sony Bridge camera but wanted more flexibility but in a compact form.Overall I think the camera itself is a very good purchase & as said very well built. One last comment, I am used to Sony menus but am still ‘exploring’ the complexity & various options on this camera, but like anything it will become easier to use over time. I purchased a guide book written specifically for this camera to enable me to get the maximum use & pleasure from my new purchase.

Great quality pics/videos, but connectivity poor!

I bought this a few weeks ago for my upcoming tour of S.E Asia and it arrived just before I set of. However after studying the manual, as a new owner of a full SLR type of camera I find your instructions extremely limiting, any kind of brief explanation of the options would go a long way instead of just listing them.One big positive is the quality of the pictures and video, I cannot fault them, in any mode default settings, auto or pre-set modes are all great... Pint-sized powerhouse

This camera takes phenomenal pictures, even in low light. The ergonomics are very good for a camera this small, and the metal body feels high quality in your hands. I shoot 99% RAW files, but I must admit that the JPEG quality coming out of the a6300 is so good, you would need to be very proficient at RAW processing with the likes of Lightroom or Capture One to top those JPEG's. I downsized from the Sony A77ii, yet gave up almost nothing in image quality and gained a lot in functionality. The 16-50 mm kit lens is no substitute for the A77ii's big-glass 16-50 mm lens, but still does an admirable job for its price and size. The a6300 has such a dizzying feature set, it's an absolute must to add an aftermarket guide. The Adorama bundle was the best deal I found, and I'm actually using most of the bundled accessories. The camera bag and the UV filters are better than I expected. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Sony APS-C camera

I traded in an A5000 to get a better autofocus and a better auto ISO system. This camera also has better build quality and some extra features. I have found the biggest issue with mirror less cameras has been the autofocus. This corrects that issue. If you have perfect eyesight then manual focus is always an option. For glasses wearer's autofocus is a must. There are newer versions available at a higher cost but this meets my needs. Some new affordable lenses from Sony would a welcomed.

Sony Alpha 6300, B Grade purchase

Happy to have bought this camera from CEX especially with the 24 month warranty. Delivery was quick and packaged well. I wish however the actual camera was the one displayed for sale vs stock images so that you can see the product. Further more the camera did not come with any of the original box or accessories (A CEX USB charger was included). The eye piece is also missing.

an Okay budget 4K with some compromises.

shoots okay 4K video, no 2K option which is a shame. 1080p with 100fps is great. Has quite severe rolling shutter and no internal image stabilization is a pain if you are shooting a lot of action. The Image stabilization in the lens is quite non-existing for the 4K video. The 16-50mm has no manual focus which was a horrible surprise. Also taking macro shots is super hard and frustrating as the focus point is quite far away. The 16-50mm lens has great electronic zoom with 2 different controls for it, very smooth and accurate. Autofocus is very good on moving targets can recommend. You cannot take pictures while taking video or if you are in the video mode. the interface for menu and buttons are poor to be honest. form-factor wise the camera fits nicely in your hand ... Moreshoots okay 4K video, no 2K option which is a shame. 1080p with 100fps is great.
