It means that Sony has completely abandoned this $3,500 camera and instead put all their resources in supporting the FX3 and even extend its capabilities by providing meaningful firmware updates. To give you an idea of how little Sony cares about the A7SIII owners: You can select animal eye autofocus in video mode but it doesn't work. The camera was released with unfinished software. You would think that soon after the release of this camera they would release a firmware update to finish the software but think again. It's been over 2.5 years now since this camera has been released but Sony never bothered to finish the software. Instead, they are only providing firmware updates and adding new features to the FX3 and are focusing on cranking out new cameras that are cheaper and have better features than the Sony A7SIII. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences of a consumer product ever. If I didn't have over 10 Sony lenses I would have switched to a more consumer friendly company like Panasonic a long time ago. Instead, I am forced to have a fire sale on this camera to try to buy the FX3 instead just because Sony decided to completely stop supporting the A7SIII aside from stability updates aimed at fixing the issues of them releasing an unstable software.

Have had the camera for about a month & used a couple times. Image quality is looking good & there are some nice features in the menu that never got implemented in the A7r.One important point, particularly for video shooters --- if you hit record while the camera is not horizontal, the camera will record a vertical video. If hold the camera horizontally, you will see the image as a horizontal image but it will be recorded vertical. You can rotate in camera or in editing but it is THE STUPIDIST feature I've ever seen - particularly because they do NOT provide a way to turn it off.Hopefully one day Sony will figure out how to design a mirrorless camera that works well for video users. Also, if you want to used the HDMI and the camera screen at the same time -- you ... MoreHave had the camera for about a month & used a couple times. I originally owned an A7R III back in 2018 and loved it. However, I allowed my gear obsession to get the better of me, and I switched to a different, newer system. While the latest cameras are technically very impressive, the fact is, stills image quality hit a wall in 2017/18 and so if, like me, you only shoot slow, composed stills photography you are gaining literally nothing in IQ by buying a new flagship camera… Just many features I don’t need and won’t use. Money which I would rather spend on lenses. So in December of 2023, I came full circle and bought a brand new A7R IIIA for significantly less than the price of an A7IV… Which is a no brainer. For my needs, the A7R IIIA is still as good as it gets. For stills photography, the 42MP sensor has not been ... MoreI originally owned an A7R III back in 2018 and loved it. The camera came in perfect condition in a pelican formatted for not only the camera, but the extra items I orderd as well with space to spare. I will be renting equipment from these wonderful people again. As for the camera itself it was what was expected, an amazing sony body with resolution good enough to make up for my lack of framing skills(I shoot on a RII and it fels pretty much the same besides the additino of two SD card readers instead of the one in that camera). This camera and any in its namesake series(that of the R family) are wonderful bodies that I would gladly pick up and use for any job that I am booked for. If you want something that you wouldn't have to ask anything more of or be left wondering how your photos would be with just one more feature ... MoreThe camera came in perfect condition in a pelican formatted for not only the camera, but the extra items I orderd as well with space to spare. The rental was overall a wonderful experience,I would gladly reccommend this company to any photogropher looking to buff up their equipment before a shoot they arent confident in their current gear set for.
I finally took a vacation recently and brought this an my a7 IV,. I have that gear acquisition thing. These must be model A as mine was purchased months ago. I have to admit I now feel a bit $200 poorer but I have had it for a while. The detail is absolutely mind blowing. When the a7 R V was on sale I almost went with that but for two reasons. From images I had seen online they occasionally were noiser that I thought they should be. The other reason, If I open my 42 MP image RAW file in 16 bit the PSD file is a bit over 241 MB. Saving four is a gigabyte. With the V, saving three PSDs will be over a Gigabyte. I was hesitant too because the camera was 6 years old but the A modification was three years old and helps I am sure. Not huge improvements but good ones, slightly better screen, viewfinder and firmware. Here are two images from my vacation. I was in Washington D.C. for the first time and was using the R III and the IV often together but not always, using the 35mm G Master and the 20mm !.8 G lenses. to my eye they are equally sharp. I made these with the R IIIA and the 20mm G.at the Library of Congress, the detail is superb. If you buy this camera body, think of the dollars saved that can go toward some great glass you'll the good stuff in lenses.
Mechanically speaking, this camera is a filmmaker's dream. From insane low-light performance to jaw-dropping video quality to features including 120fps 4K UHD and 4:2:2 10-bit video, you would think this camera would be an absolute joy. Unfortunately, that is hindered by the fact that Sony exhibits poor quality control for this particular model. I have been a Sony shooter for several years with both myself and my colleagues having multiple bodies, and none of us have never had as many defective units as with this camera. I only ordered one, but I had to keep exchanging it due to different issues straight out of the box.For the first unit I received, there was a loose power switch. Then for the second unit, it was sent WITHOUT A STRAP in the box. And the third and fourth units both had SD card slots that did not align with the camera body. For a device that costs nearly $4,000 after taxes, this is, simply put, not acceptable. Without these issues, the camera would be an easy five-stars from me, no questions asked. But Sony needs to seriously up their game to ensure that customers are getting the quality they expect when shelling out a hefty sum of money.
Like the title said this is over all a great camera but the copy my company received came with a dead mic in jack which would explain why the camera came with the Sony XLR-K3M ($600) for free. You NEED the XLR-K3M because apparently cheap mic in jacks are a common thing on Sony cameras. If you want to record audio into your videos with external microphones you have to have it because if your mic in jack isn't broken, it will break. Otherwise you'll have to use something like Zoom audio recorder and sync it up in post later. battery life is....okay for a camera with it's capabilities. it's not horrendous like older fuji cameras but you will be swapping batteries often so buy as many as you can afford. Everything else about the camera is stellar though. the ergonomics work really well with my hand. Much better than I though it would. I have medium sized hands but I think larger hand won't have TOO much of an issue holding this camera. There is a battery grip you can get which will extend that grip down a bit for those of you with wider hands. Lens selection for the E mount is probably the best on the market right now so you have almost all the options you'd ever want for lenses while canon and Nikon are still playing catch up ( though they tooo have sharp high quality lenses). oh yeah one more thing i noticed is that when recording audio into the camera from external sources there is a lot of noise. I've tried everything I think of to get rid of it but it still persists. with the mic jack issue as big of a problem as it is Sony needs to reduce the price on this camera by at least $600 or forever include that Sony XLR-K3M since they are advertising this camera with the capability to use external mics without having to use another too only for the consumer to find out that the mic jack is indeed shoddy. even at this price I have to to say it's still a good purchase because it's such a power lowlight and autofocus monster.
This was a considerable upgrade from my Sony a6000. For my first full frame, I couldn't be happier. The original Sony a7R3 received a few firmware updates that got it to close to this level. Want to change the focus mode quicker than going through the menu? Just program that feature to a custom button. Want to have your focus zoom option ready? You can change one of the two custom buttons near the shutter button so you can quickly fine tune a manual focus lens.I use this camera with antique manual focus lenses as well as some newer gear. My favorite so far is the Yongnuo YN85, a superior prime lens that won't break the bank. It works flawlessly on this camera.
It was a moment I couldn’t resist capturing. The scene unfolded naturally before me—a perfect blend of light, color, and emotion. I adjusted my camera, carefully selecting the right angle to frame the shot. The golden hour glow bathed everything in a warm, ethereal light, casting long shadows and highlighting intricate details. As I focused, I noticed how the elements came together—the textures, the contrast, and the story hidden in the frame. Pressing the shutter, I felt a rush of excitement, knowing I had frozen this moment forever. I used at church and traveling, my trainees, and as needed for everything as well.
I was hesitant to buy this camera, since a lot of people like to talk about how much better the AF is on the newer models, but it was all I could afford, and I have to say I don't regret buying it at all! Yes, the AF is likely not as good as the newer cameras, but I honestly don't have any issues with it. I do mostly portrait shooting, and it's very easy to use. People also complain about the menu being confusing and cryptic; I actually think it's fine! You just kinda have to dig for stuff sometimes. There are a lot of pages of customizable settings, so sometimes it can be hard to find what you're looking for, but you can also customize your quick action buttons and menu screen to make things easier. It is annoying that Sony doesn't include a charging block (they want you to charge the battery inside of the camera with a USB cable, which takes FOREVER), but you can get a cheap third-party one pretty easily. The camera itself is a little on the small side, but if you have small hands (like me), you won't notice it!Great value for the money, especially if you can get it on a discount! Hehe
