$65.00

(195 reviews)

The evolution of 4k cameras brings about an evolution in lens technology. Sony''s 28-135mm f/4 fe pz g oss lens is a wide-ranging zoom lens that works on your full-fram, aps-c or e-mount camcorder or still photography system -adapter necessary to fit camera mounts other than sony. The 28-135mm features a powered zoom control, with zoom rotation direction reversal capability, and variable speed control. Focus noise is minimized through weight reduction of the focus element group and use of a linear motor. The 28-135mm f/4 features independent control rings for zoom, focus, and iris aperture. The focus mode can be switched from auto to manual by simply sliding the focus ring forward, maintaining control at all times. All three control rings have been engineered to provide the correct amount of torque for comfortable, responsive operation and the depth of the rings has been designed for optimal control. By maintaining a constant f/4 maximum aperture throughout the zoom range, the 28-135mm offers consistent performance and is beneficial when working at longer focal lengths in low-light conditions. The optical steadyshot image stabilization system works to minimize camera shake by up to four shutter speed steps.

OPTICALLY the zoom was everything i could have asked for...BUT...when zooming in and reaching the 135mm optical and crossing over and continuing into the 2x Clear Image Zoom... this was the downfall for me as there is a stutter / pause as it transitioned from optical to CIZ. IF...you went at the slowest zoom speed then there was NOT A STUTTER / PAUSE. this was a consolation but ultimately would become problematic as it would be very hard to always be mindful of executing the slowest zoom speed at that transition point. anything short of the slowest zoom and crossing that transition point will look bad and look like the shooter made and error. ARGH! ah...so close but oh so far! it was painful for me to return this package to B&H as i fell in love with this lens but had to admit that it just wasnt quite right for what i had hoped it would be. on another note Ive seen in many reviews that this lenses AF is not the best in medium to lower light and i will attest to that as well. i had considered keeping this lens just for its 4.8x zoom but because of the less than stellar AF it also contributed to me sending it back. the hard stops on the manual focus ring is a high point of this lens as it the par-focal aspects. the internal IS was ok but nothing to get excited about. even though this package didnt work out for me i still highly recommend this lens as its unique in what it offers.

Great power zoom video lens for Mirrorless Cameras

Ive used this on FS700 camcorders and a7iii cameras. It works very well on both. Performs like an ENG style camcorder lens with smooth variable speed power zoom. The three rings for focus, zoom and f stop make it just like an old school camcorder. F4 works very for low light and bokah on mirrorless cameras. The lens looks and performs like a professional lens. Well worth the money if you can find one! Optical stabilization works great even when on a tripod which is where this lens belongs. Its heavy and has some very quality glass. I love the super slow zoom speed. Great lens for weddings and events where you want a super slow and smooth zoom.

We've been using the EX3 for many years with the stock wide lens, and FS100's with the 2 two common e-mount lenses available for it (the 3 speed servo lens and the manual stock lens). Like most FS100 users, we were unhappy with those lenses, and were looking for something like the EX3 lens. Well, this is probably as close as Sony is going to get to it for the near future, so if you have an FS100 or 700 and are sick of those other e-mount lenses, you'll need to purchase this. There are some issues, but they aren't deal breakers. First, it works better with the FS700. The FS100 seems to have trouble with the manual iris ring, and you have to use the camera's iris dial. The FS700 doesn't have that issue. Sometimes, on both cameras, the manual focus won't work and you have to press auto focus to get it to reset itself. Annoying to say the least, and a few live shots have been ruined trying to manually focus before giving up and pressing the instant auto focus. Since it's a bigger lens, it does beef up your camera size more, which is good in the field if you've been embarrassed by the other e-mount lenses. I think it's proper to compare this to the EX3 lens. It's not as wide, and it doesn't zoom in as tight. And it's an F4. And it's more than twice the cost of what lens used to cost. Not sure why they couldn't have just used that lens as the starting off point for this one, but that's beyond my expertise. Also worth noting is that with the FS700, the LANC controller will operate this lens. In short, for the money you may be able to find a better lens but not from Sony.

This is a perfect all round single video lens solution. The focus is smooth and reliable in most of the main focus modes. Even though only a F4 lens and most people think of wanting a F2.8 lens. But what was Sony thinking of not supplying a traditional 95mm lens cap with this quality lens. They supplied a disposable coffee cup lid, come on what ever the reason, you dropped the ball with just customer perception alone!! This should have been a 100% perfect lens purchase, but dropped to a 99.9% lens purchase after I had to buy a £4.99 lens hood. But saying this, this is a very minor issue, but important in this competitive retail market from Sony’s point of view.As you can see from the images, I use the Sony A7iii with the lens on a gimbal, perfectly balanced and a joy to work with. I would recommend this lens to all video users.

[Rewarded Review] A good workhorse, but clunky.
5 January 2023

I bought this lens to pair with the FX6 after having used it years ago with FS7 cameras. While it is a good general use video lens that does exactly what it is supposed to, here in the future, I think it is a bit heavy and clunky. Because it makes my camera front heavy, and seemingly requiring me to build the whole system up to a "cinema" rig with rails and all that, I am not sure if I want to keep it. On the one hand, I love using my zoom rocker, but on the other, I could live without that and cut my camera's build weight in half by running a smaller photo lens. Ideally, Sony would release an 18/24mm - 105-135mm range PZ lens that is built to the size of a photo lens, like the newer PZ 16-35mm. With any luck we see something like that here in 2023! I know I will jump on that immediately if it comes out!- one star because this is beginning to become a dated design, that is begging to be upgraded. Also I don't trust it on my camera without a 15mm rail and lens support.Probably would only buy again if the camera were to always live in studio on a tripod.

[Rewarded Review] A lens has no alternative

I eventually pulled the trigger on this lens. For certain type of video shooting, power zoom is a must. Fashion show, performance on the stage, conference, etc. If you go to those event with a normal zoom lens, your footage is not ok. It is either you are stuck with one focal length or you try to zoom the photo lens and the result is just not acceptable. But when we look at consumer world, there is no alternative to this lens in any system (at least before canon 24-105 f2.8 with the power zoom unit) and if you do not want go with camcorder way. Buy a Sony camera with this 28-135 is the only choice. I do want to give it a 5 stars for how unique and essential this lens is. But due to the outdated design and average optical quality, I just can not. The power zoom is very slow even at maxiam speed (control it by how much force you push the leveler). The manual zoom operation is pretty much useless to me. The feedback is just too lagging. The manual focus feedback is bad (in auto focus position). And the focus tracking while zoom in and out is not always spot on. I guess it is not optimize for that back then. And the resolution just not on par with recent Sony lens. Decent for 4k. That's being said I can not live without this Lens. The price is right for what it is. And there is simply no alternative in any brand. In my lens collection, I think this is the lens that I wanted an updated version badly.

[Rewarded Review] Sony FE PZ 28-135mm Lens
22 March 2024

This is an excellent lens. I use to own another one but sold it about 2 years ago to my assistant who needed one. I just got my new 28-135 lens in about 2 weeks ago and as usual, I still love it. We film stage and dance productions for many different companies. We need the reach we get from this lens. It has never let me down and I highly recommend it for filming. I use my new one on my Sony PXW FS7 MK 2 camera. The quality of this lens is outstanding. It has a great look too on the camera. This is definitely a 'must buy' item if you need the reach.

[Rewarded Review] sharp lens, but autofocus is only as good as your camera

This is advertised as a parfocal lens, but in my experience it doesn't seem completely so. I need to do more experimentation to really be sure. But for the money, it is a very solid build and is better than my Sony stills 24-240mm, which has a long reach but would go out of focus momentarily when zooming out from all the way zoomed in, (even in AF mode) which can spoil a shot when recording never-to-be-repeated events such as dance or sports. My Sony FS7 has a decent autofocus, (although I think the FX6 is better) and this lens does not exhibit the same loss of focus during a zoom that the stills lens does. Just wish Sony had made this a little faster, and longer. Still, you can go into crop mode on the camera to get some extra reach. Is it a bit pricey?
