Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS Lens

Not such a pleasant story here: My original copy of this lens got damaged - not sure how - but neither auto focus nor manual focus would work. Sony wanted $450 just to DIAGNOSE the problem and then more to fix whatever they determined was wrong. Didn't make sense to spend this kind of $$ on a lens that retails for $1,100 and would have come back to me in who knows what condition. Or I would have spent the $450 diagnostic fee to have Sony tell me the lens was not reparable and would have to have bought a new one anyway. The mistake I made here was not checking first with my insurance company because they would probably have covered the replacement cost with maybe a $100 deductible, but wouldn't promise to do that since I no longer had the lens. The folks at this company were nice enough to give me a "trade-in" of $15 or $20 for the damaged lens which qualified me for a several hundred dollar Sony discount off the new one. I should have asked for an inspection report or had the staff talk to the claims adjuster before relinquishing the old one.

A must have lens for Macro and Portraits

It’s an excellent lens that I can use for both macro and portrait photography.Here the pros:-The sharpness is just awesome. The edge to edge sharpness is very good.-Level of detail is very good.-The color rendition is very good-Switch between manual and autofocus is just with a shift of the front ring. I love this feature compared to the traditional switches which I used to forget earlier to switch.-love the creamy bokeh. Reduces a lot of my post processing work.Cons-Heavy. I need to continually readjust my tripod. You can feel that during macro as the focus point shifts down.- pricey. Would have loved to spend around 750.Still I got a good deal during Christmas from Bestbuy and got a 100$ discount.Frankly there are no real cons to this lens. Favourite lens - lives on my camera body

Recently acquired the 90mm to compliment my 85mmGM and extend my capabilities from portraits into the world of macro level for up close detailed products and nature shots.This 90mm 2.8 has practically lived on my camera body and is lighter than my 85mmGM 1.4, which has also led to longer excursions out and about as its lighter weight on my A7R3 tahn my other lenses - those few grams make all the difference.The clutch mechanism for shifting between manual to auto focus is definitely an addition i favour, making things hands on and tactile.Stunning level of separation and compression at a macro level and sharp as a swords edge.Favourite lens. Great Lense!

This was a big buy for me. The lense feels very solid and I love having all the markings and controls on the lense itself, it really saves time from having to go into camera settings each time. The advantage of being able to be farther away from you subject is really useful when taking pictures of insects. I was also shocked at the quality of none macro shots! Portraits comme out BEAUTIFUL and sharp. This lense does everything.

Excellent. Was a tossup between this lens and its primary Sigma competitor, and both are excellent. The Sony simply has more features, conveniences, and attention to detail like the included macro scaling printed on the lens barrel. First use was copying old photographs set up in a lightbox, and plan to do similar with slides as I build a custom lightbox where high resolution RAW files surpass scanning. The optical flatness of a macro lens is the desired tool vs the curvature of normal rectilinear lens. Waiting for the Sony authorized sale paid off, but wish Best Buy also participated in (or publicised the process) the Sony trade-in bonus that ran concurrent with the sale. Incerdibly sharp and precise

After years of using a Schneider TS-90 Makro for commerial close up work I switched to the Sony 90mm macro. The sharpness and ease of use when shooting teathered are really great features of this lens. My work is primarily for the medical device industry and image quality is of paramount importance, and the Sony more than meets the demand. I've used other brands throughout the years and Sony makes the best macro by far. Sorry I didn't buy one sooner.

I have been averaging 3-5 restaurant shoots a week taking on Uber Eats and Door Dash assignments to fund my equipment purchases. I am not at the point where I have backup equipment yet. Makes my job so mich easier

Macro photos and portraits are essential in the tattoo and body piercing industry. This lens is a game changer. there are many macro and portrait lenses out there, but this one is my go to. Both the automatic and manual are fast and easy. The steady shot is wonderful since my camera does not have any internal stabilization. If you want the bang for your buck don’t pinch pennies get this lens and you will not be disappointed..

My First impression, feel, and workmanship

How you perceive this lens is very subjective and probably also very dependent on what else you are used to with lenses. Compared to my previous (purely manual) macro lens with a focal length of 100 mm and F2.8, the Sony is more compact, lighter, and much more elegant in terms of the materials used. In terms of processing, it fits seamlessly into the Sony Zeiss series, of which I already use the SEL55F18z and SEL2470zThe design is harmonious, modern, and somewhat playful. It also looks very interesting due to its numerous controls. It is completely encased in aluminium, the surface finish is matt and the feel is extremely pleasant. The lens hood can't keep up with the otherwise flawless and high-quality overall appearance either, because it has a simple design and is only made of plastic.I use the lens on an Alpha 7M4 and I find it to be quite harmonious in terms of ergonomics and weight distribution. It is less top-heavy than my previous macro and also a bit shorter and lighter. there is no need to worry about the camera bayonet, it is so robust that it can also withstand significantly heavier lenses on a tripod without damage.Some caution is required with the A7 of the first generation. In my case, even the lighter SEL2470z was enough to wear out the bayonet of my first A7.The SEL90M28G is an excellent macro and portrait lens. Provided you get a flawless copy.Scope of delivery and packaging In addition to the SEL90M28G, the Sony-typical, orange cardboard packaging contains a lens hood, a front and rear cover cap, a synthetic leather pouch, and a folded manual.To optimize autofocus speed, the lens features a three-position focus travel limit switch. The close-up limit is 28 cm (front lens to sensor level). An optical image stabilizer (can be deactivated) is also on board. The focus hold button, which is already familiar with the SEL70200G, is also not missing.I like the SEL90M28G fixed focal length calculated for the full format with 90 mm (or 135 mm on APS-C cameras) and light intensity of f/2.8 which achieves an image scale of 1:1 in macro mode.Thanks to internal focusing, the lenses do not rotate and the overall length does not change. Focusing is either automatic using two ultrasonic motors or manual. Unfortunately, manual focusing is only indirect, which is a bit unusual compared to purely manual and mechanically focusable lenses.The switch between automatic and manual focus is as original as it is practical. The adjustment ring is simply pulled backward and manual focusing can begin. If you push it forward again, you activate the autofocus again.To optimize autofocus speed, the lens features a three-position focus travel limit switch. The close-up limit is 28 cm (front lens to sensor level). An optical image stabilizer (which can be deactivated) is also on board. the best macro lens i tried

even, the best proxy lens i ever tried ! i even been able to film a wasp making his clean-up in a such picture quality, colors et details ! i wouldn't had success this with another device ^^i like especially the large ring that you can "pull" in a way to "MF" on your own way and "pull" again, AF is back, you have nothing else to do, this lens then is very reactiv et versatyl, you can also make some scene in a certain order of the things, it's really one of my favourite lens, thanks guyz to built it !!! :D
