I use a lens hood almost all the time; for the Sony 200-600 my primary reason is to protect the end of the lens, secondary to mitigating any flare which I rarely encounter. I've learned not to take too much into bad reviews, I almost didn't purchase this lens hood cuz everyone said it didn't lock onto the lens. I bought mine USED and it works just fine locks on perfectly and is a great addition.

I purchased this replacement because the original was accidentally knocked off while covering a soccer game. They fall off way too easily. Now I always keep a big piece of gaffer tape on the hood and tape it to the lens while it is in use.

$75? For what?! This lens hood does the bare minimum that it needs to do - shields the lens from some light flaring and (more important) some wind-driven material, rain, and snow. Some.It does not fit easily, but it does fall off easily. How did Sony manage that? My suspicion is that Sony treats this as a kind of consumable - overcharge to make extra money. This lens hood probably costs in the neighborhood of $5 or $7 for Sony to make, and should probably go for between $30 and $40 retail. If that.
Lens hood falls off if you even look at. Does not lock on in any way. It is even worse than the original one that came with the lens and that would fall off too. It eventually fell off in the field and I lost it. I've added a bit of velcro tape to hold it, but that should NOT be necessary. Sony makes some of the best and most advanced cameras in the world - why can't they make a lens hood that does not fall off - everyone else does. Unfortunately it is the only game in town.
Low quality compared to the original lens hood.The bayonet is loose, it tends to come off. The inside of the lens hood is not the same as the original. It works, but it's not the best quality.Anyway, it is better than the similar ones and I will always buy Sony.
This hood replaces the original that I lost from failing to see/hear that it had detached from the lens. It had detached a number of previous times but I was able to recover it in those instances. As others have noted, it's a bit flimsy and should attach in a more stable fashion, e.g. like the hood for the 100-400 zoom.
Perfect fit. Fantastic build quality, although not identical to the original. Unfortunately excessively expensive.
The quality of the lens hood is lower than the original item, I should have bought the replacement but the quality is not the same. The bayonet is loose and tends to come off because it is loose. You should also buy Sony but they should improve the quality.
Works as expected. I saw several reviews stating there's issues but none that I found. I thought maybe a little overpriced, but in todays world, what isn't. If you need a replacement, don't be afraid to order it. It works fine!
