Absolute trash!

I bought these headphones from JB Hi-Fi at Pacific Fair today and they are absolute junk. The sound quality is ABOMINABLE! To everyone who has reviewed these headphones positively: I have NO CLUE what you're hearing, because there is no way you're hearing what I'm hearing. I bought SONY because I expected quality and this sounds like I'm listening through a cardboard tube. I'll be returning these ASAP.

Comfortable for xxlarge head and fit well on ears. Seem to cancel some noise

It works well. One thing that really sells it for me is that it is slightly bigger than the other headphones I have and so it fits my xxlarge head. The phones therefore can be placed comfortably on my ears in the optimum position and I can use the phones for a long time. The noise canceling seems to work some--at least it helps. I like these things and if I had purchased them first, I would not have a pile of headphones that I bought searching for a pair that I could use.

These headphones have decent sound for their price range and do cancel noise fairly well. I like to use them when mowing to drown out the tractor and enable me to listen to music without having to crank it up to the point where it is bad for my ears. For that, these do the job; I can listen without blasting my eardrums. Unfortunately, I can't recommend them for a couple of reasons. First, since I am using them outdoors, I sometimes have to deal with the wind. A strong breeze can cause an unpleasant whistling sound that resonates in the headphones, and it can also mess up the noise cancellation, causing the sound to cut out from time to time. It can get to the point of giving me a headache. This doesn't sound like a big deal, but it means that if the wire gets damaged or broken, rather than being just a dollar or two to buy a replacement wire, the headphones will be useless unless you want to do some splicing or soldering. It also means that I can't replace it with a wire with volume control, which is actually very handy because it lets me lock my player's controls but still adjust the volume as my music changes. Without these issues, I would probably give these at least four stars, maybe even five. Too bad that they spoil a pretty good product.

No Microphone: Product labeled for cellular/mobile use and claims to have a built in microphone. It does not record audio. This will not make your cell phone hands-free, you will have to hold your phone's microphone up to your mouth. I knew as soon as I noticed it doesn't have the appropriate jack. Sound Quality: The sound quality is great with the bass boost turned on. I was incredibly disappointed at first, the sound quality is really terrible without the switch turned on. I would hate to have my battery die. Package says 40 hours on a single AAA but I wouldn't trust it. It muffles background noise but I wouldn't call it "noise cancelling." Comfort: There is no padding on the top, just hard plastic. Comfort: There is no padding on the top, just hard plastic. The adjusters have plastic bumps, so it is not smooth on the top whatsoever. Definitely uncomfortable. It fits a little snug over my hat but is doable. The ear pads are small and squeeze more than I'd like with no way to adjust the pressure. The single AAA battery goes in the right earphone making the right side heavier than the left. Overall: Keep shopping. These feel flimsy. You can find something better for cheaper. There are better sounding headphones without the need for a battery, there bigger more comfortable headphones with less weight. Do not assume these are quality because you recognize the brand.

Good Product at Reasonable Price

So far, so good. Comes with the required AAA battery which is a plus since I didn't have one!! Easy to read and understand instructions. Have only used once, but worked well using my desktop speakers. The only co would be I wish the connection cord was just a bit longer. I found that if I turn to pick up something from the left side of my corner desk, the cord is not quite long enough. For the price, well worth a try. Arrived timely and packaging was secure.

I’m an audiophile and audio engineer. My intent with these headphones was a cheap alternative for drum monitoring while recording. They work fantastically and compare well with my BeyerDynamic wireless headset on the noise cancellation. While over-the-ear is usually a bad headphone for me, after adding my favorite headphone pad nuggets to the needed relief points these are a comfortable pair. Without any added padding I found these uncomfortable, and the surface of the plastic used triggers me if it touches my scalp from the discomfort. If the headband had any padding or a different material, I would give a hire rating. This is the first pair of headphones I have spent less than $100 in my headphone collection, and I will be purchasing these again.

Noise canceling headphones aren’t bad but…

Very good value for money.Noise cancelling isn’t as effective as higher end models but does help reduce background noise.Build is fairly lightweight with a fairly short cable. Headband tension is light so is comfortable to wear but doesn’t mechanically block out sound.Okay for light use but wouldn’t recommend for audiophiles or pro users.Requires AAA better for active noise cancelling otherwise works as passive headphones.

Ok if you are on a budget and need environmental noise reduction

Disclaimer first. I am very picky about sound quality. The nearest comparison headphones I have for this review are low-end audiophile stuff, so direct comparison on sound reproduction is not really fair. When the review question "Is the sound quality good?" says "No" that reflects my expectation for what they should have been at full suggested retail price compared to other brands at a similar price point, but remember, I got them for much less. If there was a middle option of "acceptable" then that would fit better. I've always personally found the sound from budget Japanese headphones muddy or lacking crispness and sometimes both. If I had paid full retail price for these I would have returned them. At a budget price of <$50 they're ok for those times when there ... MoreDisclaimer first. I am very picky about sound quality. If I had paid full retail price for these I would have returned them. At a budget price of <$50 they're ok for those times when there is way too much background non-vocal noise. Active noise cancelling headphones always seem to have some trade-offs. With the noise cancelling turned off they sound slightly dull but are listenable. With it turned on, the reduction in noise is clearly noticeable. Unfortunately one of the reasons I bought them was that in cubicle farms noisy neighbours are a constant problem. One guess what these headphones do not really filter out at all ? The shouting and loud talkers barely get muffled, certainly not enough to put upwith the drop in sound quality from my perspective. Sound quality is obviously subjective and some people would find them "ok". Something not often mentioned in noise-cancelling headphone reviews is the unnatural effect the behaviour of the headphones can have on your inner ear. This is not unique to these units and even the premium stuff from the headphone specialist manufacturers exhibit this to varying degrees. SOME people may experience nausea and other side-effects after prolonged wearing of them, especially in relatively quiet environments (and I don't know why that is). Some reviewers may mention things like the "breathing effect" which is of a similar origin. Comfort for headphones can be a problem, especially for prolonged use (think "full work day"). For example I cannot wear buds at all and on-ear headphones give me a headache, so generally I'd buy the variety that make a nice soft pad on the skull leaving the ear alone. These are on-ear variety but with adjustment and for short periods (a couple of hours) they sit comfortably and don't place excessive pressure on the ear. If you sweat a lot and are not in an air-conditioned place, you may need to rethink. Having worked in an office inside a machine shop I can say that I wish I had these back then. For minimisingnoise from office machinery, outside noise (our office is beside a CBD rail line!) and street noise they do muffle it enough to mentally block out the rest. In short, if you need something to help you shut out the general noise around you for short periods and you can get these on discount and you are not used to high-end audio gear, then these may fit your needs. Yes, I have recommended these to a friend.

These are very good headphones when the noise cancelling is turned on- with the noise cancelling turned off...not so much- the sound is muted and tinny with limited base response. MY MDRZX110's. The ear-cups are somewhat small but comfortable. The fit problem is the width of the earphones- something I've found with nearly all light Sony headphones over the years. This is a problem for anyone with a medium to larger size head. The tight fit make the headphones uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. There is a solution! Wrap a plastic bag around the ear-cups to keep them dry and then allow steam from a kettle/teapot to heat the whole wide part of the top of the headband from the middle. Be gentle while bending there is a wire inside!.If it doesn't bend- it is not hot enough yet. Do not use a heat gun or hair drier since that much heat can melt the plastic! Once you get the shape where it is comfortable, keep the headband in that position while you run cold tap water over the band until it cools to room temperature to set the new bend in the plastic.

The cost doesnt effect the quality

The price looks awesome so I was kinda skeptical about the quality of the product. The sound quality is better than a pair of in ear earbuds I have. I can hear things in the background of songs Ive listened to thousands of times that I have never heard before, but thats only when noise canceling is on. The noise canceling when its on will block out an average noise level conversation being had in the next room. If the conversation is being had within twenty feet of you you will hear it but itll be kinda quiet. But the sound quality will still be so darn good you wont be paying any attention to the conversation. When noise canceling is off they are basically normal headphones. The shipping time was great. The ear cups fold up for really efficient storage. The cord is long enough to not yank on the headphones but short enough that it doesnt accidentally catch on things as you pass by them. The ear cups are very comfortable. Ive worn them for five hours sraight and they didnt make my ears hurt. I will definitely buy these again.
