The Sony 18-135mm f/ 3.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens from Sony covers some very frequently used focal lengths between 18mm and 135mm. It is a Sony Alpha lens that has been optimized for cropped image sensors, and as a result it is not recommended for use with larger full-frame cameras. That means its 18-135mm focal length is the 35mm equivalent of a longer 27-202mm telephoto zoom lens. It is constructed of 11 elements in 9 groups, with two aspherical elements and a single Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass element, which all help to deliver sharp, clear photos throughout the zoom range. It has a minimum focusing distance of 1.4' and a front-end filter diameter of 55mm.

Excellent Lens

I replaced an old, failed 24-105mm lens with this unit. Obviously, 18-135mm give me additional wiggle room on both ends. I'm very pleased with the image quality. The larger diameter than my 24-105 is easier for me to grasp. Honestly, I couldn't be happier about buying this lens.

Excellent buy!

I was looking for a good walk around lens that would give me some reach when I didn't really want to carry my big zoom lens around. I was looking at both this lens and the ones made by Tamron for my Sony a77II. Based on other reviews that I saw I decided to go with the Sony lens. So far I would say I have made the right decision. The pictures are very sharp and all lengths and it focuses very fast. This will be the perfect lens to take when you need just a little more reach but bringing a big zoom would be a hassle.

Great all around lens!

LOVE this lens! It's perfect for when I don't want to carry extra lenses. I can get landscape shots as well as closeup ones. I shoot a lot of races, and this is perfect to get a shot of the crowd, then go straight to a runner's face. The range is fantastic, the shots are sharp, and it's a fairly fast (and quiet) lens.

Great lens
26 September 2019

I am extremely pleased with my purchase as it more than exceeds my expectations. The lens works perfectly and is very easy to use and does a great job. Also, I am very pleased with the polarize filter that I also purchased and received at an earlier date. The quality of these products is outstanding. I am also very pleased with doing business with B&H as my orders were handled with great efficiency, prompt service and shipping. My purchases arrived in perfect condition.Sincerely, RW Lehman

Optical zoom flexibility

Good quality and reasonable image given the optical zoom range and aps-c compatibility. The focal length range works well for most routine applications.

Perfect everyday lens
14 August 2018

I had been looking for a general purpose everyday lens for sometime. Having researched various makes and focal lengths, I decided that the most practical for myself was the 18-135mm. It matches perfectly with my SLT-A68, and will be going with me on holiday.Used it recently at my daughters baby reveal party and got some excellent stills and video. Although not the fastest of lenses, it works really well in outdoor situations, sharp and fast focus with very little noise. If you are looking for an all rounder for travelling or just as a lens you leave on your camera as an upgrade from the kit lens, then this could be worth looking at.

Sony DT 18-135mm

I received this lens in just a few days from Japan. Condition was just as described - MINT. I have only used it to take a group of test photos, but the operation and photographic results are very good and just what I was looking for. This lens is a very good walkabout lens and will be on my camera most of the time.

Sony SAL18135/3.5-5.6 is a gem!

Like many of Sony's in house SAL optics, this upper end consumer kit offering offers a lot of bang for the buck. My used sample was pristine and shoots beautiful images. AF is very quiet, zoom and manual focus are very smooth. The auto switching for AF to manual is a feature every lens should have. Build quality is as good as plastic can be which is essentially fragile in nature but adequate for consumer use with any care shown to it. Light weight, fairly compact and a competent performer in capturing images, this zoom is a cut above many models in IQ. Good center focus wide open with softish corners, the SAL18135 shapes up quickly once you start stopping down. Very good IQ throughout the focal range - not common on many zooms. Using f4/5.6 through f16 will produce great images. Diffraction comes into play around f11-16 and ruins images using the smallest apertures. All in all, buying this item on eBay for half the retail price, I scored a mint sample of a current product - shipped from Japan, where Sony builds their better optics.

The best choice for a Sony system
24 July 2016

I bought this lens to replace my Tamron 18-200mm travel lens and it was the right decision! The Sony lens is much sharper, faster, smoother and it provides much nicer Bokeh backgrounds. I've taken great landscape photographs as well as portraits and even pictures of flowers and nature look great. It's a must for anybody who uses Sony system. It worked great on my Sony A58 that I had previously and it works even better on my Sony A77ii.

Versatile and High Quality Lens for Sony Alpha
9 June 2015

I bought the Sony 18-135mm Alpha lens as an upgrade to the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Sony A65 camera, as I wanted more flexibility and creative choice in my photography.I've had the 18-135mm lens for some time now and have really enjoyed using it and have got some excellent results. The lens itself feels sturdy and well made, (in Japan) with a metal lens mount and easy to use zoom and focus rings. This lens is quite a bit heavier than the kit lens but without making the camera feel unbalanced or too cumbersome. In general the images produced with the lens are very good, producing sharp images with quick focusing which is less noisy & smoother than the standard kit lens.
