Move in close to capture stunning details with the E 30mm f/3.5 Macro Lens from Sony. Designed to work with APS-C-format E-mount cameras, this lens offers a normal-length 45mm equivalent focal length that makes it useful for a wide variety of subjects. Its main feature is the 1:1 magnification ratio provided by the 3.7" minimum focus distance that enables photographers to capture outstanding close-ups. The lens makes use of one extra-low dispersion element and three aspherical elements to ensure sharp, contrasty images with minimal aberrations. Also, the lens has a maximum aperture of f/3.5 and uses an internal focus design for fast, responsive autofocus. Along with these features, there is a seven-blade circular diaphragm to help create pleasing, smooth bokeh.

I've been looking for a macro lens that doesn't break the bank. When I stumbled across this lens, I was hesitant because the price was too good to be true being that it was a Sony manufactured lens. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. It's a compact lens and it's perfect for wedding details, especially the ring shots! My clients were thrilled with the images I captured with this macro.

I bought this for macro photography and can recommend this lens. The macro images are very sharp, however the focal length of the lens does require you to be close to the subject. The lens is relatively small and light and can be obtained for a good price. As a normal 30mm lens it also produces reasonable images. Only downside I've noticed is that the auto focus is not as responsive as other lenses but for me this hasn't been a major issue.

Great for close up shots. Perfect for product shots.

I needed a macro lens to shoot products and was looking for a good used lens. It just so happened that the local camera shop had this lens just traded in so I jumped on it. This lens works far better than using the extension rings on say a 50 mm 1.8. I get fairly quick and accurate autofocus with this lens. If what you are shooting is dark, then focus is a bit erratic. Best to have good lighting while shooting macro. This lens only comes in silver. It looks OK on a black A6500. It is totally compatible with the sony 6000 series. If you are looking for an excellent macro lens for real close up shots, then this lens fits the bill. It is less expensive than most other macro lenses but it is really pretty sharp for close up shots. These shots were done with F7 for overall focus. This lens is capable of F3.5 to F22. If you buy this lens, make sure you get some decent macro lighting. It makes shooting so much easier! In case you are wondering, I recommend this lens highly!

Great price and service
30 June 2017

I recently purchased a macro lens for my Sony x6000 camera. I had been checking prices on the Internet for about a month and all retailers were selling the lens for almost the same price and too expense for me to purchase. Sellers on eBay were selling used lens. Others sole the lense at lower prices but the lens was black in finish (not chrome) and shipped from outside the US. Then one day I found eglobal Central selling the lens for at a $100 discount. I was hesitant to purchase from eglobal because I never heard of them and the price sounded too good to be true. I called Sony to ask if eblobal was on their list of dealers. The agent told me that they weren't but told me that he saw no reason not to purchase from them. First things first: -What we all call macro lenses are, with a couple exceptions, perhaps better named optically optimized close focus, (OOCF) if you will, because macro means larger than life (look it up). So, 1:1 is the threshold of macro. This quibble brought to you by an old geez whose only other experience with a macro lens was the legendary but ineptly named Micro Nikkor back in the day. And it required an extension tube to get 1:1 reproduction. Consider what follows with the above in mind... This lens is tiny, light, seems well-built, and sharp (bearing in mind that my only comparison is what the Nikkor could do on film stock, which I heard or read somewhere could capture about 12-14 Mp at its best). This lens is tiny, light, seems well-built, and sharp (bearing in mind that my only comparison is what the Nikkor could do on film stock, which I heard or read somewhere could capture about 12-14 Mp at its best). But the tiny light part is somewhat negated by the tripod-ballhead-focusing rail-rail to hold the focusing rail and clamps to hold it all together setup required to keep the rig steady and in focus. I believe that's why some have reported autofocus problems (at close focus distances DoF (that's another thing; it should be depth of ACCEPTABLE focus, which in the old film days was much wider than with todays' pixel-rich sensors)), even stopped-down is too thin to handhold. Next; at stated 1:1 reproduction (stated close focus 3.74), by my rough estimation puts your subject at a little more than 1/2 from the front of the lens... Nonetheless, for the money, this lens does what I want very well. I don't think there is anything out there that can touch it. Sony could probably reignite sales of this lens if they were to include a decent focusing hood for the monitor as an accessory for not too much more money. Some reviews have mentioned this lens as a walkaround; I much prefer the pancake 16-50 kit lens for its size, framing choice (wide to tele), but mostly its low subject intimidation factor (most people think my a6300 is a point and shoot); not to mention low I'm going to assault him and take his expensive camera factor! In my neighborhood...

Nice macro for the smaller wallet!
18 October 2021

I wanted to try macro-photography, but I just wanted to see if it's something I like. This lens isn't expensive and is super sharp! You can get close to the subject and after you learned to work with it, you can make great pictures with it. It's a very great lens to start with macro-photography. There is only one little thing; the lens is quite short, so you must avoid working in your own shadow and watch out you don't create a shadow while getting very close to the subject. But you can work around that pretty easy. It's also a great lens for portraits and landscapes. I use it on my A6000 and I would definitely recommend this lens.

SEL30M35 is a budget-friendly Macro Lens

How I use the productI take photos as a hobby. I mainly use this lens with Sony a6000 and the duo works well. I also use the SELP1650 with an extension tube but I found that this lens produces better results.Things that are great about it1) Relative to the 16-55mm kitlens, it is noticeably sharper.2) The color rendition is very pleasing; it eliminates the greenish or yellowish tint from photos. The overall image quality is excellent.3) True macro with 1:1 magnification.4) Notably light and compact. Switching from macro to infinity is not as quick as expected. The SELP1650 kitlens with an extension tube has a more reliable autofocus speed.2) The manual focus ring is too firm. If you want to achieve great results for focus stacking, you would need a sturdy tripod. Some would also point out the short working distance because of the 30mm focal length, the f3.5 aperture, and the lack of stabilization. You might want to consider those aspects and examine if this lens would fulfill your requirements. The lens has met all of my demands for a macro lens. If budget is not a concern and you are using Sony mirrorless cameras, then you might want to consider:Sigma 70mm f2.8 FE+razor-sharp and includes a focus limiter+fast enough autofocus speed with a little bit of noise+with dust and moisture sealing-extends noticeably to achieve 1:1 magnification-a bit heavySony 90mm f2.8 FE+gives a longer working distance between the camera and subject+razor-sharp with OSS, manual focus clutch, and focus limiter+internal focusing mechanism+fast enough autofocus speed with a near-silent operation-a bit expensive relative to other macro lenses

Solid Value
10 December 2019

This is Sony's most economic E mount macro lens. While it was designed in early 2010's, it still delivers good images on older and newer cameras. It's a true macro, and would make a good addition for close up shots. It seems to work better with older models like the A5100 that has the zoom built in into the camera. I had some problems with the A6400 as the focus ring on my unit (it was used) didn't seem to respond properly. A solid value, but not totally on par with more modern, higher end lenses.

Use it for Macro

This is a Macro lens....it is not really a good portrait or regular lens. It excels at really close up shots and is not very good for a regular use lens. It will shoot OK but the image is not up to what is expected from a prime lens. Because it is a specialty lens, it does what it was meant to do as good as anything else that is out there for Sony E-mount cameras and that is shooting Macro. As a standard lens, the images are soft as you get around the corners. The bokeh is not very good. It being a Macro lens, its design is specifically for shooting Macro. I got this lens because I like doing close up shots and for that, you really for the price cannot beat this lens. I give it 5 stars for Macro use.....if you were going to use it as a prime standard lens then I ... MoreThis is a Macro lens....it is not really a good portrait or regular lens. wow this was an amazing lens to get started with macro, especially if you are on a budget. it doesn't have image stabilization but nothing a tripod won't fix. if you have full sunlight i actually found hand held works just as well. be aware that 30mm focal length is short and it will block out light in most situations. i liked to use this lens outside since the sun was much better than artificial light. overall i had no problems and loved working with this lens.
