If you want to feel *everything* between 250 and 15Hz, you can definitely do that with these, without it seeming to distort the rest of the audio. The microphone for call audio does its job and not much more, and the 3.5mm jack seems tacked on so they can check off a box. These sound terrible from a wired connection, most likely due to the massive DSP work being done by the battery during Bluetooth playback thats absent from normal wired audio. The included charging cable isn't long enough to prevent your headphones from dangling from a normal foot-high wall outlet, but it works. I can't say anything yet for long term reliability, but these seem very solid and I feel like they could handle being tossed in a backpack regularly, as long as you're careful with the padding. With line-of-sight, I could get up to 80 feet from my phone while still getting a good signal. You can get a bit more/less depending on how you're oriented, since the Bluetooth receiver is on the left ear cup, but overall I'm impressed. The latency is also surprisingly good, making it painless to watch content and play games using these without feeling like the audio is always behind the action. These don't have any electronics devoted to cancelling noise, but the bulk of the cups and the soft ear cushion help seal your ears off from most of the rest of the world as soon as you start listening to anything. They're nothing compared to active sound cancelling headphones, but they're surprisingly good at passive isolation. These hurt my ears after wearing them for more than 30 minutes, and its always apparent that these are clamping your ears. If you only plan on wearing these for less than an hour or so in a sitting, or are already used to on-ear headphones, are looking for a lot of bass, and want a long wire-free battery life, I'd recommend them. Otherwise, I'd say it may be worth it to keep looking. The closest Sony product to this, the WH-CH700N, seems to be able to have around half of the max amount of bass these do (while I find these comfortable at 20%) while actually being nice to wear (over-ear), and I'd highly recommend looking into that if nothing but the on-ear design on these is turning you off.

I have an assortment of headphones and earbuds and as I sat down to write this review, I felt like I had written much of it beforeand I did except the last time I was considering the similarly performing AKG Y500 on-ear headphones, as long as the bass response with the Sony earphones isnt cranked up to headache levels. I would categorize them as balanced across the frequency range, smooth and clean sounding, competently and arguably, commendably handling both upper and lower ranges when paired with the marketed focus devices. Like the AKGs, this set from Sony lacks an ANC feature and the passive noise reduction is in my opinion only ordinary. Controls are split between the two cups with the power button, 3.5mm port, USB-C charging port and customization button located on the left side. The customization button is modifiable via the headphone connect app and can be used to define preferred voice assist (Siri, Google Assistant, Alexa). The music and telephone call controls for track advance/reverse, volume are on the right cup. Look for someone else to talk about the telephone call features, thats outside my interests with any headset. One feature I really was happy to find is the ability to connect to two mobile devices at one time. Personal listening preferences are always going to be the primary determinative factor in evaluation of any headphones or earbuds and taking into account my core interests (fusion and be-bop jazz, female vocalists, neo-soul, contemporary) at the current price point I think these headphones are generally impressive under the right circumstances and that came as somewhat of a surprise since I generally shy away from on-ear options in favor of over-ear cups. Now, I also have smaller ears so with the molding tendencies of the cup pads this set fits me more like an over the ear set than most other on-ear models Ive used. After using the WH-XB700s for a couple of weeks, when paired with an iPhone using the Sony headphone connect app I find the sound reproduction of these affordably priced headphones quite good. To my reckoning, Bluetooth transmission (SBC, AAC and aptX codecs) isnt significantly inferior to wired connectivity on this specific device. Utilization of the mobile device app allows the user to adjust surround immersion perception, adapt bass frequency emphasis, designation of focused playback direction, upversion of compression to higher quality via the DSEE utility. In that vein, I tried the headphones via wired connection with a DAC converter and still didnt think Bluetooth transmission was noticeably different. One thing to keep in mind, any of the app adjustments other than activation of DSEE are independent meaning bass response cannot be adjusted in conjunction with sound position control. Once deficiency however is, if the headphones are thereafter used with another device where the app is not available like a Hi-res player or jacked to an A/V receiver, assigned settings are not adjustable which can be problematic with different music genres and if the headphones are used with a wired connection as with the A/V receiver, the sound settings from the app are completely disabled and in my opinion performance of these headphones tumbles to mundane.

CR tells us that the headphones should be sensitive enough that we hear Ingrid breathing, and if we listen very carefully, we do hear her take a breath from time to time. Also, CR says that we should be able to hear the guitarists fingers move across the strings and we do hear that sound clearly. Now I am listening to Summer from Vivaldis Four Seasons on the CR list of test songs. This song starts out slowly, but then soloist Mari Samuelson and the orchestra move to molto allegro. CR tells us the violins even at this breakneck speed should be clear and distinctly heard and with these headphones we hear Mari Samuelsons wonderful playing with no distortion. I picked a few more songs to test these headphones and the first is U2s Grammy winning Beautiful Day. The boys from Dublin pack much music into this performance. This is complex music and these headphones do a good job of allowing us to hear everything U2 has put into this song. The bass on this song is very strong. Next, I listened to Procul Harums great A Whiter Shade of Pale live in Denmark 2006. Readers of this review, do yourself a favor and go to YouTube for this wonderful performance. Again, these headphones do a good job with this special song. The orchestra has a rich, full sound and Gary Booker has never sounded better. One last test is another fabulous performance, My Back Pages from the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert. We listen to the greats Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Roger McGuinn, plus Dylan himself. I am listening to Claptons great guitar work right now. Wonderful stuff, and the headphones do a good job reproducing this great music. Bottom line: These headphones are easy to charge and connect to Bluetooth or with the cable included directly into the source of the music. They are advertised to deliver extra bass and that promise is kept. These headphones are comfortable to wear and give good value for the modest price charged for them. Recommended.

CR tells us that the headphones should be sensitive enough that we hear Ingrid breathing, and if we listen very carefully, we do hear her take a breath from time to time. Also, CR says that we should be able to hear the guitarists fingers move across the strings and we do hear that sound clearly. Now I am listening to Summer from Vivaldis Four Seasons on the CR list of test songs. This song starts out slowly, but then soloist Mari Samuelson and the orchestra move to molto allegro. CR tells us the violins even at this breakneck speed should be clear and distinctly heard and with these headphones we hear Mari Samuelsons wonderful playing with no distortion. I picked a few more songs to test these headphones and the first is U2s Grammy winning Beautiful Day. The boys from Dublin pack much music into this performance. This is complex music and these headphones do a good job of allowing us to hear everything U2 has put into this song. The bass on this song is very strong. Next, I listened to Procul Harums great A Whiter Shade of Pale live in Denmark 2006. Readers of this review, do yourself a favor and go to YouTube for this wonderful performance. Again, these headphones do a good job with this special song. The orchestra has a rich, full sound and Gary Booker has never sounded better. One last test is another fabulous performance, My Back Pages from the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert. We listen to the greats Tom Petty, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, and Roger McGuinn, plus Dylan himself. I am listening to Claptons great guitar work right now. Wonderful stuff, and the headphones do a good job reproducing this great music. Bottom line: These headphones are easy to charge and connect to Bluetooth or with the cable included directly into the source of the music. They are advertised to deliver extra bass and that promise is kept. These headphones are comfortable to wear and give good value for the modest price charged for them. Recommended.
I have a few Sony headphones (both wired and wireless) and have been very pleased with its sound quality. The Sony WH-XB700 Wireless Extra Bass Headphones does not disappoint neither. It comes with an audio cable for direct connection to other devices, an USB C charging cable, and a brief pictorial user guide. The headphone is pretty light with nice cushioning which effectively blocks off most of the external noises. There are control buttons for the power, volume, track skip, and play / pause button with a side button for blue tooth pairing. We can pair the headphone by pressing and holding the "custom" button on the headphone. Although this headphone does not have active noise cancelling function, its cushioning works very well to isolate external noises. It also has a very nice range with nice reception from about 20 feet away. Overall, this is one of the best Sony headphones in my collection.

My husband's previous headphones, from Turtle Bay, had a plastic headband, and several weeks ago the plastic headband on the side of the phones that had the boom mike snapped in half. He charges it overnight and they last through the entire ten hours of his shift. Even better, these headphones do what his Turtle Bay phones did not: he can use them via bluetooth without the bluetooth shutting off when he doesn't use it. He was using the Turtle Bay headphones with a wired connection because if he didn't use them for over 20 minutes the bluetooth would shut itself off. The noise cancellation function is excellent. When it is off, he can still hear external noises, but once on he can't hear much of anything. I shouted at him at one point and he did not hear me. If you were working, especially in a noisy office, these would be ideal, and they should be useful on a long airline flight as well. (Having no crying baby to test this with, he can't vouch for these covering a whiny child.) As for the music, he said it sounded perfect right out of the box, without using the Extra Bass, better than his old Sony wired headphones. He listened to a favorite Moody Blues song and said he could hear when the riff changed channels from one guitar to the other, and the sound effects changing from ear to ear. Next he engaged the Extra Bass and listened to a Moody Blues selection with a heavy bass portion and loved the results. At this moment we are totally satisfied with these headphones. Time will tell if they will stand up to weeks of work calls and listening to music. However, my husband says there is definitely one thing wrong with them: THE SIX INCH LONG CHARGE CORD. Really, who makes these things? Luckily we had a multipack of USB C charge cords we got here on Amazon.

I replaced the included skinny audio cable with one from a higher end set, and that considerably improved the sound quality. I love that these headphones can be quick charged using the supplied Type C cable, although it's so short that you'll likely want to use your own if you have one. I love that it has a quick charge of 10 minutes to give 90 minutes of playback. A 4-hour charge will give you 30 hours of playback. I do wish they came with a case. I find these lightweight and comfortable enough to wear for hours. A USB C to USB A 8 inch charging cable is included along with a 4 foot 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm audio cable so the headphones can be played either wirelessly or wired. I like having the option to connect with a cable in case Ive forgotten to charge the headphones or while traveling I dont have to worry about battery depletion. Stated to take 4 hours to fully charge but on arrival took 2 hours for maximum 30 hours playback from a Bluetooth device. There is also a quick 10 minute charge option which is stated to provide 90 minutes of play time. Precise timing of battery life varies based on usagelike a higher volume will more quickly deplete the battery. There is a built-in microphone so phone calls can be accepted and it worked well with both of us on each end of the call hearing the other clearly. The headphones do not completely block ambient sound but the user is still largely immersed even at relatively low volume. I downloaded the Sony Headphones Connect app through the Apple app store to connect the headphones to my MP3 player and phone. And, then I used the app to set up google as the voice assistantAmazon Alexa is the other option. Regarding sound customization the app has options including surround sound, clear bass, sound position control (within a circle around your head) and sound quality mode. There is a lot to explore. I played music wirelessly from my music files on my phone, music player and wired from my laptop and home audio system (with adapter-not included) without any issues. The navy color is a nice change from the usual black or white while remaining a neutral shade. The ear pieces are soft which means they are comfortable to wear for extended periods of time and they flip so the profile is flat and more compact to transport. The headband adjusts effortlessly and the set fits both of the two in-residence adultsone with a medium hat size female head and the other with an extra-large hat size male head. Excellent headphones with lots of options for customization.

The way the earpieces swivel does help mitigate that and keep it relatively comfy. Overall, I'm very pleased with these Sony Bluetooth headphones. They are a good upgrade for someone looking for better quality sound, but don't want to spend the extra for active noise cancelling.

Boost the bass a bit, boost the treble, cut some of the 1500-2500Hz to offset if the sound is hollow or sounds like you're listening through an old telephone. But a lot of the portable devices you play music on probably don't have very precise or powerful controls to equalize properly. Well, this Sony WH-XB700 does the equalizing for you when in wireless mode. When you first start listening, you can hear the flat, unequalized sound (same sound you'd hear when you connect them with the included wire)... then the electronics kick in and you get a pretty nice, boosted, equalized sound. You may or may not like it, although you cannot change the programmed EQ settings. But I do like this headset's equalized sound - boosted bass and high treble, with some cut in the vocal range. Separation and soundstage is good. They are light and sit on top of your ears instead of over the ears. The best part is they are wireless with about a full day of battery power, and I don't have to fiddle with an equalizer to get good sound quality. Just a couple notes if you are considering these headphones -- if you are looking for flat, studio-monitor type headphones that do not color the sound, then these are not it. For that, consider theSony MDRV6 Studio Monitor Headphones. There is no case included with these headphones. You can find generic cases on Amazon, like thisHeadphone CaseorLTGEM Headphone Case. Just search Amazon for "headphone case". I prefer over-the-ear headphones, which seem to be more comfortable for longer listening times, but these seem OK for the last 30 mins or so. There is no active noise cancellation, but they do seal against your ears pretty well to block out reasonable outside noise.
