I've owned this player for 2 years. It's the best blu ray player I've seen! The uhp-h1 is a solidly built player unlike other bare bone players. This player has various options for streaming Netflix and other internet content I haven't played back any CD's (not much of a music listener anymore) and i know the Professional reviews on the Audio playback are great. First the DVD playback is very impressive. Sony's superbit mapping is truly special, it really cleans up DVD's and breathes new life into them . Blu Ray playback is spectacular! 4K Upscaling is sensational ...various settings to tweak the picture to your liking. When comparing to native 4K (Actually 2K) The difference is 4K Blu Rays tend to be darker because of HDR. As far as clearity i saw none . A USB ... MoreI've owned this player for 2 years. I needed to replace a 13 year old Sony Bu-Ray player and initially considered another brand due to the price of this player but I'm glad I purchased this one instead. Wow what unbelievable picture quality and great sound it puts out! This not only improved the quality of Blu-ray's but the old black and white DVD's look close to Blu-ray quality. Quality built player as well. Sony, Please keep the Digital Optical output ports on future 4K players. Thanks.

Very few high end CD/SACD players can do this now. So at last I can listen to my 5.1 channel mixes of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, The Moody Blues' Days of Future Passed and many others as they were intended to be heard.Picture quality is first rate and although my amp and TV cannot yet handle 4K upscaling, 1080p is more than adequate for my needs.This machine was designed for multi media too and a nice surprise was in store when I updated the software. I bought this a week ago and I’m so happy that I did. It’s the only Sony Blu-ray player with an FL display, which I’ve always had on previous players. The build quality is superb, it has a really good weight to it, as well as some great features like Bluetooth to connect to my soundbar. This allows me to play a CD without switching the TV on. The remote control is nicely designed and very intuitive. The picture and sound quality are excellent, with good connectivity. It plays virtually any disc and format such as Blu-ray, DVD, CD and Super Audio CD. It doesn’t play 4K Ultra HD Blu-rays, but this doesn’t really matter because the 4K upscaling quality is outstanding, even on a DVD. I haven’t seen Ultra HD discs for a long time and they were expensive. It’s the best ... MoreI bought this a week ago and I’m so happy that I did. I was skeptical, but the upscaling features really improve the sound quality of streamed audio and CDs- better image, better instrument separation, etc. I'm hearing stuff that I didn't know was there! Fantastic with Spotify!I purchased the UHP-H1 to play SACDs and DVD-As, and it plays all of the discs that I've inserted so far. No problems playing basic (not 4K) Blu-ray or DVD video discs. I also use it for Netflix and Amazon Prime.
I decided to replace my Sony BDP-S780 (I actually have several of these players) which is an excellent player. For the price I was expecting significant improvements since the 780 is much older technology. I knew from the get go that the Sony UHPH1 plays many differing audio technologies and can do 4K upscaling. Sadly it does not play 4K discs. I actually preferred the sound and video on my older player. The only improvement I noticed was the wireless operating system for the internet. I own a LG OLED so I am expecting premium quality video, and was expecting this up to date bluray player to mate with my flagship tv to wow me. But alas I had to return to old faithful BDP-S780
This thing is a joke. Fired it up and played Heart of Sea 3D Blu Ray in Atmos, the blu-ray player does not output Atmos to the amplifier. Next I played Gods of Egypt which is in DTS X. The blu ray does not output DTS X again.I connect my flash drive which has downloaded DTSX and Atmos Demos and play directly from the blu-ray player. Everything plays great and my Amplifier recognizes both Atmos and DTSX. Go back to BluRay Disc no Atmos or DTSX Output !SONY GET THIS FIXED !!! $350 for a BluRay player that does not output BluRay Movies in Atmos or DTSX.
This player does everything exceptionally well except play UHD Blu-ray discs however it does upscale physical media and network playback to 4k with aplomb. HiRes audio playback is this players strongest asset. (SACD, DVD-A, 24/192 khz files.) It is also freaky fast and whisper quite. I have the player connected to a Sony 930D 4K TV and Marantz 6011 AVR.Awesome disc spinner and more.Solid Sexy Build.Thank You Sony!
I bought this player for its abilities to upscale video to 4K, play cd, SACD and DVD-audio discs to a high standard and send high definition audio via LDAC to my Sony headphones. We watched the Revenant on blu-ray and the whole family commented on how stunning the picture quality was. It plays SACDs like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to great effect on my 5.1 system. The player looks great and is discreetly sized. Overall very pleased.
Sony advertise this player for sound quality. But what they don't advertise is the superb picture quality. I am very happy with the purchase of this BD player. From the build quality, sound and picture quality nothing to complain. Unlike other brand the remote control is also very easy to use with a nice layout. The only thing that's missing is it cannot play 4K disks but I knew it before I purchased it. But the up convert picture quality from this player is as good as 4K.
