Amazing Basketball system, nice big back board

The Spalding Basketball system is very good. The board is really good for kids and teenagers alike. The height is adjustable and hence can lower it to a desirable height for younger kids and a full size for teenage and older kids. The fixing of the system can be tricky and need at-least 2 people to fix the system. Yiou need to do it slowly so you dont miss a step and if done carefully it shouldnt be a problem. All in all this is the good system that is available.

Got it for my little munchkin’s Christmas present. He was so surprised and super excited. Him, his dad abd whole stree are out there every day for a couple of hours. Definitely three thumbs up and very good quality, easy to assemble but you do need two people. And use sand to fill up the base instead of water, it’s better solid ground.

The basketball hoop is great once put together. My husband and I took 3 hours just to put the stand and the pole together then gave up and air tasked the backboard and hoop. I’m glad it’s sturdy but it was ridiculously complicated to put together and this is why I gave it 3 stars. Fortunately my 8 year old son loved it for his birthday and has spent a lot of time outdoors using it but why oh why did it have to be so complicated (and expensive).

Great value for money

Purchased this3 days ago and my 10 year old son and I put it together in about 3 hours.I've read a few reviews about instructions not great etc. and have a couple of wee recommendations:Open all the hardware (bolts etc) packets and lay everything out on a piece of cardboard in its place. Tick all the parts off the list - keep ion mind you may have a few extra parts (this is normal)Have a quick look at the instructions and get a rough idea what's coming up on each page. you may need a wheelie bin with a old rug on it and something to stop it rolling (if it's full and wont move easily that's perfect) as when the base and pole are in, you need to connect the backboard, this is when you may need another adult.you connect the pole first, a few people struggle ... MorePurchased this3 days ago and my 10 year old son and I put it together in about 3 hours.I've read a few reviews about instructions not great etc. and have a couple of wee recommendations:Open all the hardware (bolts etc) packets and lay everything out on a piece of cardboard in its place. Tick all the parts off the list - keep ion mind you may have a few extra parts (this is normal)Have a quick look at the instructions and get a rough idea what's coming up on each page. you may need a wheelie bin with a old rug on it and something to stop it rolling (if it's full and wont move easily that's perfect) as when the base and pole are in, you need to connect the backboard, this is when you may need another adult.you connect the pole first, a few people struggle with this as the fit is quite tight. Follow the instructions and mark the poles then get a smear of Vaseline (or similar) on your hands and coat the parts of the tube that slide inside, don't smother it on, just enough to make it a a bit slippery- the parts will slide together easily-make sure the dimple is lined up in the groove (this is in the instructions)I used anti-seize on my bolt threads, but not necessary.Don't overtighten nuts, the instructions tell you to tighten the nuts so the top of the nut is flush with the thread, make sure you do this. The whole goal assembly must be designed in the USA as they as you to use imperial size tools (3/8",1/2", 9/16" size spanners or sockets) If you don't have imperial size tools, you can use metric tool, ie: 3/8" = 10mm, 1/2" = 13mm, 9/16"= 14mm and i think there is an 11/16" spanner/socket needed, you can use 17mm for 11/16". If you have got these tools, Bunnings has a cheap section of ring/open end spanner for $1.45 each at my local store. Budget but ok.When you fit the pole stays/stabiliser rods (x2) to the base, leave the stays pole bolt not fully tight until you have the stays base bolts and nuts started as the weird angle they are on make them a bit stiff to get on but easy if all loose. When you get to the stage of fitting the backboard on, you might not be able to fit both spacers in either side of the height adjustment rods, this can be tricky as some has to hold it while the other person slides the bolt and spacers through. This is where the wheelie bin helps as you can lean the pole/base assembly on it so the backboard assembly is a good height for someone to old it while the bolt get slid through. test the bolt and spacers before you actually put the backboard on, if the spacers don't fit between the poles/stays, loosen the nut slightly to let the gap open up a bit and re-tighten afterwards.I lad the pole and backboard down when I filled it and filled the base with water but I reckon sand would be better as the top bung/plug leaks. I think I probably put too much water in it or get a bit of duct tape and stick it down over the bung once the goal is upright and ready for use. but it's only a little bit of water and think it comes out when the ball hits the base- no biggie.I think that's all, main thing is to lay out all the parts (bolts etc) and follow the instructions strictly.Good luckMy kids played on it all day and love it!

More about the store
14 January 2022

We bought this system for our son for Christmas. After paying off some of the layby I was contacted from staff at the gepos cross centre to say that the product had been recalled and they were upgrading us to the 50" system. Great. Go to pick it up on Christmas Eve and they said the product was no longer recalled as they now have a sticker to say not to dunk as it can cause serious injury or death. No worries, bit disappointed about the no upgrade but it's what we initially bought anyway so no worries. Go to pick it up and the box looked like it had seen better days but I was assured it was all good. Get it home. So I ring the gepos cross centre and am told there is nothing that can be done about it until boxing day and I can bring it back to replace it. Worst Christmas gift ever. Rang up on boxing day and was able to have the system replaced.

Nice system (but with a couple things to note)
17 January 2022

Overall a nice solid Basketball system.PROS- Children all love shooting hoops (ages 12, 10 and 7)- Easy to adjust the height (although you have to be sure you have sufficient ballast in the base)- Nice solid constructionCONS- Once you've filled the base with ballast (water or sand) you won't be able to move it- Took quite a while to put together (2-3 hours). It's not difficult, just time consuming to follow all the steps.- One part "appears" to be missing (the spring cover) but on further reading of the instructions (later in the booklet) it is noted that not all models come with this part.- Base has a small crack in the seam so water leaks out, which we discovered on first filling it. Will try to get this fixed/replaced under warranty, but as per ... MoreOverall a nice solid Basketball system.PROS- Children all love shooting hoops (ages 12, 10 and 7)- Easy to adjust the height (although you have to be sure you have sufficient ballast in the base)- Nice solid constructionCONS- Once you've filled the base with ballast (water or sand) you won't be able to move it- Took quite a while to put together (2-3 hours). Safety Risk
27 April 2021

Good functionality however can pose a significant safety risk. It recommends filling the base with either water or sand. The water I put in the base half evaporated in only a week so the entire structure fell over unexpectedly. Thankfully the kids were not playing with it at the time or they like have definitely been crushed and potentially killed. The ring got slightly warped from the impact but I was just grateful that the kids were not hurt. I have since filled the base with sand and also added 4 large sand bags on top of the base to ensure that never happens again. I think the option to fill the base with water should be removed, especially in a hot country like Australia. I knew I would need to fill it regularly but never imagined it would half evaporate in ... MoreGood functionality however can pose a significant safety risk. Spalding 48” Baller Basketball System
22 January 2023

I purchased this system for our 7 grandsons and 5 granddaughters (age range 15 to 6) to enjoy, while having sleepovers at their grandparents. It has only been in use for about a week, but so far they are all loving it. It appears to be well made, sturdy and is very stylish. The push button feature, for adjusting the ring height, between 8 and 10 feet, makes the process simple. The backboard also appears to be resilient. Assembling the system did take time and effort, with a degree of difficulty, but all things considered, the result was worth the time taken. The adults have also enjoyed competing with their offspring. Given that some systems are very expensive, I feel (hope) we have purchased a mid range system which is fit for purpose.

Underwhelmed
22 January 2023

Certain sections difficult to assemble, even with 2 adults. Some missing parts - none of these vital but annoying nevertheless. Some components not suitable for outdoor weather conditions so will rust (non galvanised bolts, nuts, springs etc). Poly-carbonate backboard sheeting too thin for long life expectancy. Cannot move easily when base is full of water. 2 pole supports not robust enough for weight of upper section. Expected more from top name brand.

Versatile basketball hoop
9 January 2024

Purchased on sale over Xmas period and seems like a well designed and effective basketball hoop.Took a couple of hours to assemble in between Xmas festivities, takes a bit of effort and need a 2nd or 3rd hand for some of the later steps.Once set up, it works well, easy to adjust height for different abilities and nice and stable with sand/water in the base. Will find/make a cover for the backboard to protect from the sun/uv rays as that is what seems to fail when I've looked at 2nd hand ones...
