Best shoe I’ve ever had

My colleague at work raves about his speedcross trainers but because I have wide feet he said I’d probably find them too tight fitting and then I found they did a wide version. I can honestly say that these trainers are super comfy - as I’m getting older I’m getting a bit precious about this and only wear good quality socks etc! The trainers feel supportive out of the box and are roomy in the toe box. On runs they feel grippy off road in most conditions with no worries about slipping. I can wear these all day and my feet don’t ache. Initially I thought I would not like the lace system but they are so easy to just slip on and off that honestly they feel like bedroom slippers. I don’t think I would consider another trainer now I have found these and like my colleague ... MoreMy colleague at work raves about his speedcross trainers but because I have wide feet he said I’d probably find them too tight fitting and then I found they did a wide version. I am delighted today to take delivery of a new pair of Salomon Speedcross 5 Goretex. Note that I am buying Speedcross 5. The photo is of a 6-month old Speedcross 6. I do hope Salomon is continuing making Speedcross 5. This is what I found lacking in the 6, compared to the 5. It does not breath as well as the 5's. It does not clean at all easily. Note the stains. It damages easier. My previous pair of 5's took much more of a beating than the 6's and they never stained or scuffed like the 6's. Lastly, the design and colour schemes of the 6's are nowhere near as sassy as the many colour combinations of the Speedcross 5's. No, Salomon, for something of a slightley lighter shoe (which I never noticed really) Speedcross 6 is a step back. Not forward. This is my third pair of the Speedcross but the first time I purchased the wide sizing. It makes a difference in the toe box as the regular size has given me blisters on my toes a couple of times but this pair has not after approximately 100 miles of hiking. The upper on these shoes holds up very well, especially in comparison to the Altras and Topos I’ve hiked in before. The tread smooths out after 500 miles or so. The speed laces are unbreakable in my experience. I’ve owned these shoes in black and in gray. The colors are hohum but the shoes are great. My first two pairs are still used for yard work and casual wear even though the tread is too far gone for hiking.

Hands on the best running shoes I've owned
16 April 2023

My first pair of dedicated trail shoes and I've owned these for a month now (50km+), and can confirm to their greatness.Traction is exceptional on all soft surfaces, and the stability this shoe gives you on uneven terrain is where it really shines in my opinion.I struggled over the years with shoes being too narrow - this wide version is the perfect answer I was looking for. Super comfortable over long runs. The 10mm drop makes a lot of sense off-road when going up and down, so I wouldn't hesitate over that if I were you.Best of all these do not follow the recent trend of humongous outsoles, but rather offer the right amount of feedback when pounding on uneven soft surfaces. All in all a really great purchase, I'm a happy owner!

Hoping the Fit Is Right

Received my Salomon online order today (#SLNUSEN1118891). Been searching all over the web for the new Speedcross 6 Wide - no luck! Went back to Salomon and found and ordered the black 6 Wide - I really wanted the gray! CS was of no help in advising of availability of the gray color. My feet have changed and my Wildcross GTX and Speedcross 5 are pinching my feet. So, I thought I'd try the 6 Wide. I put them on right out of the box and found that the 2EE width was not as wide as other brand 2EEs, which I have. I'm hoping through wear they will "fit." I will update this review after a couple of o'meets.BTW, as a loyal Salomon user/buyer, I was disappointed that no direct military discount or loyalty discount was available. I love these shoes!!! But....
21 April 2023

I am a huge and long time Adidas Terrex fan. When I wore my first pair of Salomon Speedcross 3's, I quickly was converted.Usage: I am a Professional Disc Golf Photographer and I play a lot of disc golf. When on tour, I'm easily walking 3-5 miles a day. Terrain varies from golf courses to hills, to mountainous terrain. All kinds of weather, rain or shine. When playing disc golf I'm walking around 2-3 miles and that's on average 3 times a week. So needless to say, I get a lot of usage out of my shoes. What I love about my Speedcross GTX 6; Comfort, 10. Great for my narrow feet. Traction is super grippy for any terrain. Love the speed lacing tech. Easy to put on and take off shoes. Low enough base so I don't roll my ankles on rocks and what nots. It's a great shoe no doubt. I even want to purchase the non-gortex Speedcross 6 for more breathability when it's not raining or too dusty out. Although, the GTX is more breathable than the Adidas Gortex shoes. Why I gave these shoes a 3 rating...well, let's just say the idea of putting a whitish fabric cover over the tongue of the shoe that is geared for the outdoors and I not easy at all to clean, was probably not the most brilliant idea Salomon has had. After the first use, my shoes already look dirty and dingy and I can't do anything about it. Everything else on the shoe can be cleaned to keep it's relative newness. But the fabric over the tongue is so annoyingly dirty and squishes up. I've considered cutting off that part on the shoe but don't want to sacrifice any integrity of the shoe.Anyway, great shoe other than the fabric over the tongue. Super annoyed by it. Hopefully the Speedcross 7's won't have that feature...

Mega love

Bought this model almost 9 months ago. I used them for 3 weeks hikes in Pery and many 1-2 days hikes in Canada . Super comfy , lightweight and have excellent grip. I bought them in black , just to be at peace when they get dusty or muddy. Good not only for hikes but for city walks with my dog too, love the combo of practicality and style. Today my daughter left for 3 months trip to Europe, and she asked me to borrow mine speed cross for that trip. Whille I'm glad she shares appreciation for that particular model , I understand that I need to get another pair for myself now. Highly recommend! They have superior feeling of comfort inside I guess due to the ortholite tech material, wich is way more comfortable than memory foam insoles.

Shoe of choice for dog sports
18 December 2022

I started agility with my dog about a year ago and after a few months of slipping and sliding, noticed that everyone was wearing a particular style of shoe, all made by Salomon. I asked around and did some research, then bought my first pair of Speedcross GTX running shoes. And they’re brilliant. Very comfortable, excellent quality, lightweight and with good grip yet the ability to turn sharply without leaving your foot behind! They may not have improved my agility skills but they have significantly improved cornering, changing direction and balance. I now own 3 pairs and wouldn’t dream of training in anything else. I’m a UK5 and bought this in 5.5, perfect fit.

TOENAILS GONE - HORRIBLE
16 May 2023

First wear was a 5k jog, no issues, a little rigid but the fit was good. 2nd wear was a short 22 mile hike in the White Mountains, wet trails, super easy hike. By the end of the hike, the insoles were completely destroyed and wadded up, definitely can’t use them again. And my big toes were a little sore. Flash forward a week, both big toes are dark black and swollen, toenails falling off. I would post pictures but no one wants to see that on a shoe review. I’ve never ever had issues with runners toe and now I have a severe case. I do not recommend these shoes at all unless you want to ruin your training season and be confined to a chair and crocs.

This my third review. I've orienteered on all types of terrain: bad trails, good trails, through marshes, rocky ground, crossed streams, wet ground, muddy ground, clamberred up and down hillsides, etc. And, I still finish - the Speedcross 6 help a lot!
