I lucked into a pair of Speedcross 3 at the Sports Basement in San Francisco after my favorite old pair of Inov8 finally wore out and I almost slid into a river in Sequoia National Park. I tried them on and was immediately impressed with how comfortable the fit was. There is plenty of room in the toe box, but the shoe doesn't move around on my heel. The slide laces are ingenious. No more untied strings. The grippy sole gave me confidence that I could walk on trails and not slip. Since then, I have bought several pair of Speedcross shoes. I used to wear boots all winter. Now I have four pair of Speedcross that I wear almost exclusively, all year round. The only problem I have is getting them before they're sold out!

The quality of Salomon shoes has gone downhill. First, the sizing is off. I have always worn a US size 7.5 in Salomon. I recently ordered a new pair but after wearing them outside for the first time I realized they are too big. I had to order another pair in size 7 and am unable to send the 7.5 back because I wore them already. Additionally, the support in these shoes breaks down much more quickly than they ever have, within 6 months or less, leaving not much in the way of arch support and overall secure holding of your foot. I used to be able to get a year out of these shoes. And the lacing system doesn't stay tight, so I am constantly bending over to pull them tight. This is my second pair of Speedcross 6, but my first time buying a Gortex running shoe. I train on trails in the early mornings, typically passing through quite a bit of high wet grass and shrubs and finally decided that enjoying dry feet on those runs was worth whatever I might have to compromise in ventilation. It was a good call! A month later I still get gitty at the feeling of dry socks when I know they should be soaked. The heat buildup is not an issue really, at least when the environment is properly matched. I did wear them on a travel day for lack of having another clean pair of kicks and they were too sweaty, but it was out of context and I definitely don't fault the shoes. I prefer trail runners instead of hiking boots for hiking and Salomon's are generally my go-to. Hiking boots always give me horrible blisters, which I don't get from trail runners. Trail runners are also typically a lot lighter compared to boots, and personally, I don't feel like I need the ankle support of a boot that some people may like.I had the wildcross before these and they lasted over two summers and many, many hikes through the Canadian Rockies. I haven't worn these on trail yet, but the fit is right and I am excited about the extra waterproofness via GORE-Tex. I am usually a 9 in women's shoes, but an 8 or 8.5 in Salomon footwear. Salomon generally sizes differently than other brands, so I would suggest going off your European size to select the right fit (Women 9 US is usually a Euro 40 - but in Salomon's Euro 40 is an 8 or 8.5). If you are unsure, I would suggest trying on a pair in-store before purchasing online to ensure you have the right size.I prefer the Quicktab pull-tab lace system over conventional laces. Again, because I have narrow feet, I find normal laces too long and I have to double or triple-knot them so they don't drag. With the Quicklace system, you just tuck the excess into the tongue of the shoe and there is nothing to worry about.
I ordered these to be a crossover shoe for work and the trail. Let me tell you, these are the most comfortable shoe's that I have had right out of the box. Normally I have an adjustment period where I can only wear shoes at work for 1/2 a shift and then I need to change them over to my regular footwear until they've been broken in. These are the 5th pair if speedcross trail shoes I’ve bought over many years and I love them. I use them for walking and hiking. I find them super comfortable and supportive and a perfect fit (size wise I go up half a size on my normal shoe size with these). The tie mechanism makes putting the shoes on and taking off super quick and also allows for easy adjustments. I find with these trainers compared to others they are a little narrower and I very rarely get any debris getting in my shoe. Breathable and comfortable on hot days too. I also really love the colour. I would definitely recommend. (I also have a pair of Speedcross Gortex and love these too, great for keeping your feet dry on a rainy day).
My last pair lasted me surprisingly awhile for a few years but I knew they were starting to breakdown. Then when they finally gave up the ghost, I wanted color. I had all black before. I was a little worried my new ones would potentially not be the same just in my experience sometimes new makes or each shoe may vary ever so slightly. I love the color and when I went to break them in on a 13 mile run which probably wasn't ideal initially, they did well! The first half mile was slightly questionable with just a little twinge of pain but then felt fine after on the rest of the trail and varying terrain.These are the only shoe I have tried so far where my feet aren't killing me after several miles so I appreciate this shoe and consistent performance!!! I was apprehensive about purchasing a pair of shoes online, especially when I would be walking in them for 9+km every day. Would the fit be right? I was pleasantly surprised to find that the fit was perfect. In addition, the shoes provided support in all the places my feet needed it most. The stylish looks were a definite bonus. And I love the lace system. I wore through the soles under the heel with other shoes I have purchased (not Salomon), but this shoe looks like it will last longer, with a thick (but lightweight) sole. On the day my shoes arrived, I immediately put them on, and wore them all day. Hours and a few km later, including mostly pavement walking, my feet still felt great. At the end of the day, my feet thanked me for making this purchase.

With other hiking shoes I always have to choose between enough room at the toes or the shoe not being to wide, with the speedcross 6 I can have both. My normal shoe size is 38 and I wear a 38 2/3 in Salomon. They run a tad bit small so I suggest sizing up one size for a little room at the toes. Also they are very comfortable, more than any other hiking shoe I've ever tried. They always stay in place and will never be too loose or too tight. One thing to keep in mind is that they are still trailrunners and therefore they will wear out faster than a hiking shoe/boot. They cannot be resoled and will not last you a lifetime. Therefore it's true that the lugs on the sole wear out faster compared to the sole of a hiking shoe. However that's a trade off I'll gladly make because of the cushioning, comfort and breathability I get in return. I can safely say this is the ultimate hiking shoe for me :)

The fit is HORRIBLE; wide, wide, wide! Too wide!The 6th edition, supposedly made for normal feet, is way too wide - my feet float in these shoes uncomfortably, which is a dangerous fit for running. I tightened the laces to adjust the fit - the fabric crinkles on top of the shoe (see pic), I get blisters. I compared these with Speedcross 3, which I still have. Speedcross 3 fit so well.
