These were issued to me in the Coast Guard 33 years ago and I’ve never slipped into a more comfortable and durable shoe. They have been worn, on average, every other day. I purchased these shoes for my 15 year old son for school. They arrived on a Friday, and he wore them to school first thing on Monday. When he came home that day, after eight hours, the soles of each shoe were coming apart! I was shocked at how damaged they were from one use! This is certainly not the quality I expected from Sperry. This could explain why the shoes were only $99. Luckily, Sperry's customer service is excellent and they refunded the cost once I sent them these photos. Do yourself a favor and do not buy these particular boat shoes. They are not worth the hassle.

Sperry quality has definitely gone downhill. The only reason I purchase these shoes now is b/c my children’s private school gives them 2 choices in shoes & these are one of them. These shoes are at random falling apart, the soles detach, the stitching unravels, the sizing is off at times as well as defects that may protrude from the inside of the shoe & give you blisters in only one shoe. Also, I purchased these shoes during a no tax period & when the shoes needed to be exchanged for the exact shoe but a smaller size we were charged the tax! Is this right? Anyway, questioned it & was told the “no tax period ended & by law it was required”. Please Sperry, if you’re going to charge these prices make an effort to do better.

I've had this exact pair of good-looking Sperrys for over 10 year. Recent, I've had to replace my trusty old pair after they finally fell apart years later. As much as I've enjoyed the design and comfort of my boat shoes, this latest pair has me thinking twice about wearing my Sperrys. Buying exact same size I've had for years, the fit of these shoes is off - the heel side of the shoe doesn't hug my foot while the front is often too tight (and the only thing keeping the shoe on my foot). This problem is particularly worse with my right shoe as well. This unfortunately leaves my feet sometimes feeling weirdly sore at the end of a day of walking as certain parts of my foot have to overcompensate in order to keep the shoe semi-snug on my foot. I had a pair of Sperry’s boat shoes I loved to death - perhaps a decade of regular use. It was with great sadness I retired them - they were the most comfortable pair of shoes I owned, with the possible exception of my Sperry duck boots, which I also love. Naturally, nothing could replace them but another pair of Sperrys.Alas, within days of receiving them - and not even wearing them every day - they began to fall apart. The rubber soles seem to be of incredibly cheap quality, falling apart at the seam line with a speed surprising for a company whose quality I generally respect.With great reluctance, I would not recommend these shoes.
Horrible Quality - Soles split along seam at toe while stitching remains intact. Sadly, the quality of these shoes has dropped to rock bottom. My wife bought me a pair for Christmas. In the spring, I wore them out to one evening of dancing. The tip of the sole at the toe split an inch or more on each side, along the stitching. The stitches remained intact. A month ago, my wife replaced them with the same model. One 2-mile walk along Mission Boulevard in Pacific Beach - the same thing. I've had Sperry's for years without a problem, each pair lasting 5 - 7 years. Looks like the quality of the sole material has been drastically downgraded to save money. Bad move folks - you lost a customer.
I have worn Sperry Topsiders for over 50 years. I have lived onboard sailboats for almost 20 years. I ALWAYS wore Sperry shoes onboard (including an Atlantic crossing), no other. I own 20 year old Sperrys that I can still wear!!!This latest pair of "Sperry Top-SIder Authentic Original Boat Shoe" lasted six DAYS before the sole separated from the bottom of the shoe and the sole itself separated into the the sole and the grooved perimeter.Since these are not the "Made in Maine" versions I assume they are made in Asia somewhere.Terrible quality. I guess actual sailors have to look elsewhere for quality boat shoes these days.
It seems like the rubber sole is not as high quality as it used to be. I compared my new pair to the older pair I was replacing, and the rubber sole is flimsier and seems less durable. I wonder if Sperry has changed the type of rubber. In fact, the rubber sole in the first new pair I ordered tore within 2 weeks of wear; surprising since my last pair hadn’t torn despite 7 years of consistent use. A longtime Sperry wearer, I figured it was a fluke and exchanged the broken shoes. The second pair has the same flimsy sole. Cost cutting measure? Still, they look nice and have the same comfort.
Great boat shoes. This is my second pair. The leather is nice and looks like full grain; it molds to your feed in a few weeks for a perfect, roomy fit. I have wide toes, and these shoes are the most comfortable ones I have.No extra foam or padding or that crap. Just a leather upper visibly sewn onto a siped rubber sole, with a half-length footbed for the heel. The fuzzy bare leather on the ball of the foot and the upper part of the shoe will gradually smooth out with use until it feels like a slipper, and it never holds an odor (unlike any lined shoe, which eventually smells if I wear it barefoot).My one issue is that the sole squeaks. I have had several pairs of Sperry Authentic Original boat shoes over the past several years. I won't wear anything else. (The all leather kind, not the suede and leather. I am not crazy about those.) They are comfortable and mold to your feet very nicely.No problems with quality control for me. I haven't experienced any at all.I used to wear Bass and Timberland - both good shoes too. But they change the looks too often and I prefer the Sperry classic look. The LL Bean Casco Bay shoes are good too. I have just about worn out a pair of those.Love my Sperrys though. Please don't change them.
